Important to Know: Your Perfect Rowing Companion

While those apps track your metrics, RowAlong focuses on your journey. By manually logging your results and journaling, you create a powerful mental link to your training, helping you process outcomes more deeply and gain insights that numbers alone cannot provide.

The Science Behind Journaling
Top rowers do more than track splits. They monitor their full experience to prevent burnout, stay motivated, and improve over time. By journaling your mood, energy, and reflections, you bridge the gap between raw data and real-life performance.

RowAlong Premium Subscription

Premium gives you access to workout timers, weight tracking, body metrics tracking, habit flow tracking, journal access, rowing calculators, and more. ## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2.9 — 2026-03-11

Updated the playlists in the Videos tab

### 2.2.7 — 2025-05-27

This is really just a point release - but there are two changes in here. It seems the "Swipe for Options" thing for the Habit Notifications may have been a single occurance on my testing machine. As once I loaded it onto my phone, it was back to the Long Press if you want to choose DONE / SKIPPED - or say you drank the water. Make sure to stay hydrated folks!!!

The other change is the Stroke Guide Timer. You know the one, it's the timer that has the stopwatch and the animated line at the bottom of the screen to help with your timing for Drive, Release and Slide. Well. A few versions ago I added a proper animation to the simple Stroke Rate Guide - showing a line drawing of a rower as he goes through the different phases of the stroke.

I had many requests. Well, 2. To add this to the timer version too. Not as simple as I originally thought - but he's there now. The portrait version has a little jump up and down when you play it - but I'm going to assume most people will watch this in landscape anyway. (You know what they say about assuming!)

Anyway. Install, and let me know if anything weird is happening - or if YOU have any suggestions.

Be well.

### 2.2.6 — 2025-05-13

Well that took longer than I expected!!

I tackled a bunch of bugs first with this release. The video playlists would only show 50 workouts, which was not great, but that is fixed now. The Weekly Planner was a little confusing when it came to setting the start if you had multiple weeks, so that is sorted too. And there are a couple of UI tweaks in this version as well.

But what really torpedoed my time over the last month was adding Heatmaps for the habit trackers and interactive notifications. You would think this stuff would be easy, but I did question my choices a few times.

Simply put, when you set a Habit notification, you now have the option to gently swipe left on the banner and select Done (if you swipe too fast, it clears the notification entirely - it used to be that you could Long Press the banner, which was MUCH better. But it seems the latest iOS doesn't agree with my viewpoint there!) Don't worry if you do swipe it away though, you can update the Habit Completion, and Manually add water consumption through the Today screen.

Anyway... clicking DONE on the notification banner will log the habit as completed without needing to open the app. Same with Water Reminders. Select Done and it adds a default amount to your daily total.

"Why does that matter?" I hear you ask. Well, there are now Heatmaps, accessed through the Today Screen, that show how consistent you have been with your habits, water, and journaling over time. Weekly Planner activities also appear in the Today Screen, which you need to manually check off yourself, and they feed into the Heatmaps too.

The more you do, the more your Heatmap will evolve to reflect your growing consistency.

All of this is leading up to what is coming next. So I will get back to squirrelling away with code for a while and maybe ask the Carrot if he wants a starring role in the next version of the app.

I hope you are enjoying it. Let me know if you have any requests or comments.

Row well, be well
John

### 2.2.5 — 2025-04-14

There are two main updates in this version. The first is the Habit Flow notifications. It seems that sometimes the app would decide to only set them for a week, sometimes, it felt like doing it for longer. I asked it politely to now just set the notifications (for Water and for general habits (General Habits, Sir!)) until you decide to stop. But why would you do that??!

The second one is the Stroke Ratio page. The one where you set the rate and the ratio and it just plays until you stop (not the timer variation is what I'm saying). You can now choose between the bar that tells you what to do when, or a little stick figure guy (I've not named him yet - any thoughts?) who will take you through the stroke.

My concern here (I'm going to be serious for a second) is that people don't recognise that the release is SOOOOOOOOO important. That you finish the stroke, then you set arms straight and the forwards tilt BEFORE you bend your knees. Watch the fella, see how he moves and then copy the sequence.

Anyway, I hope you like this version. Let me know if you have any feedback, requests, or spag bol recipe ideas.

Be well.

### 2.2.4 — 2025-04-04

This is a point release aimed at user experience.

1) The label "Workout" has changed to "Workouts"
2) The Habit Flow pop-up helper that comes up the first time you go to that page now has a back arrow so you don't need to select Continue if you don't want to continue!
3) The Podcasts would sometimes crash the App on the Workouts page. That should be working now.

Thank you for downloading the app - I hope you enjoy it! Personally, the Stroke Ratio Timer is the biggest revolution for me. But I would say that... I made it.
