I have not lived in Massachusetts in over twenty years. As you might guess by my age, I do check the obituaries in the paper to see if anyone I knew has passed. When you don’t live on the No Shore, unfortunately the rest of the news is no longer of interest so purchasing a subscription is an extravagance I cannot afford. It would be great for those of us who no longer live there to read the obituaries at no cost. Thanks for letting me give my opinion. Rather than struggle to read, the voice over has made this a treat. Newspapers are the back bone of democracy and your paper provides our local news which really isn’t available elsewhere. Families pay hundreds of dollars for these to appear in your paper and now the only people who can see them are those who pay for a monthly subscription? Did it never occur to you that the majority of people who view these are older people on fixed incomes? While this newspaper is a mere shell of it’s former self and is not worth the cost of a subscription in it’s entirety, charging to see obituaries alone is completely absurd. Addendum: I just paid $850.50 for my mother’s obituary to appear in the Salem News for 1 day, and now, I can’t even view it or read people’s guest book entries, because I don’t have a subscription! How outrageous is this? I also hated that when you pushed the back button while in the obituaries, it logged you out of the obituaries. That should have been a simple fix to keep you on the full obit page. It's always locked out from scrolling, so you can only read the first few lines of an article. Then, you switch to "real paper" mode, and can barely see what you are reading. I'm paying a monthly subscription for this? Not any more!! I'm a paid print subscriber. Forced to use the News Memory app which is also awful, but at least I can read something. Get with it SNews and fix this. ### 1/5 — Rip off! *2015-01-29, version 2.5.54* This app only shows the first couple of sentences of each article. Forget trying to load entire article. Supposedly there are several articles that can be read for free before purchasing a subscription. Since that doesn't even work, who would want to pay the $15 minimum monthly subscription rate? After spending way too much time trying to get this app to work, I am very disappointed about the forced upgrade. The prior app worked great! ### 1/5 — Won't load articles *2014-12-31, version 2.5.54* I used to read the paper every morning, but, for at least a month now, this app doesn't even show me a single article. Nevermind reading an article, I can't even see the headlines. The app opens and on screen it says "checking for new articles". It then loads a blank page with ads on the top and bottom, which stays up for a few seconds, and then the cycle repeats itself. I used to deliver this paper for several years and have been reading it for about 25 now.
