Everything loads so clunky, ads continue to load after starting to read which causes shifts in scrolling. Scrolling up and down hides/up hides top nav bar which causes layout shift. For being a content app that requires a subscription to view the content, the content sure takes a back seat to all of the other UI. ### 3/5 — Pop ups make the app almost unusable *2024-04-23, version 6.5.4* The pop up ads make this app seem unstable on my iPhone. They hide the story, are difficult to close and jump you to different parts of the story. I don’t have the same problem on my iPad. ### 2/5 — App is brutal. Or my Mac Mini! *2023-05-11* The newest edition does not com up on my black updated Tribune app. I simply can’t get the latest edition. If I try getting the paper through my email notification I get a big useless banner to the left of the screen that makes the print too small to read. I know what I want: the first page of the latest edition filling my screen every morning through my app. Simple, easy to use. That is not what I am getting although numerous other publications seem to be able to accomplish this simple task. It is very frustrating and when my long term subscription ends (20 year subscriber) I will not renew. ### 1/5 — A once great newspaper... *2023-05-09, version 6.5.0* I’ve been a Trubune subscriber for almost forty years. I remember when the Trib used to present actual news to its readers, rather than just being a propaganda vessel for the leftest agenda which is trying its best to destroy the postwar gains America experienced. The Tribune is quite loyal to the majority of its subscribers. If you despise the 1st and 2nd Amendments to the Constitution, the LDS Church, conservative politics, or an unbiased presentation of world and local news events, the Tribune is the medium for you. ### 3/5 — Latest Update a Bust *2023-05-07, version 6.5.0* I cannot stand the new layout, font, sizes, everything about this last update. It looks like a page of clickbait. The font is especially unappealing. Strangest layout. I used to check the news app every morning and get all caught up. Now i click on it and give up after a few seconds bc it’s so off-putting. ### 4/5 — New app is impossible to navigate and slow *2023-05-06, version 6.5.0* I have wanted to support the new Salt Lake Tribune but I’m at the end of my rope because I’m unable to read it. It takes so long to load that I’ve already read the Washington post and it still isn’t loaded. ### 1/5 — Latest Redesign is Terrible! *2023-05-06, version 6.5.0* Please bring back the old version. It wasn’t great, but at least it was readable. This new version is nearly impossible to navigate on the iPad. ### 1/5 — Miserable 6.5.0 Update *2023-05-05, version 6.5.0* The new ad banners top and bottom of screen are infuriating, taking up valuable screen real estate. Horizontal viewing also far more difficult to use than before. Wish I could revert to previous version - this new version is a mess. ### 1/5 — Way Too Many Google Ads *2023-05-03, version 6.5.0* Been subscribing to The Trib since ‘91, digitally since it’s been available. Have to download to read. Try double tap to enlarge - takes you to a glossy run of the mill click bait type arrival. I wanted a newspaper reading experience. THIS IS NOT THAT. ### 2/5 — Version 6.5.0 update *2023-05-02, version 6.5.0* The new version displays on my iPad as a thin strip down the middle of the screen. There is no possibility of reading the text without enlarging it. I can’t swipe to the next page without downloading it. This version is even worse on my phone. I tried to reinstall the old version, but no luck. ### 1/5 — Don’t upgrade if you’re on an iPad! *2023-05-02, version 6.5.0* The new version functions poorly on iPad. Navigation is clunky, largely because the banner ad at the bottom of the page keeps blocking the navigation bar. The old app allowed reading the e-edition the same way one reads a print newspaper, the new version insists on trying to force the reader into scrolling through the news stories, and the comics, one by one instead of picking and choosing what to read as one would do in a print version. And on some pages the scroll misses portions of the page, like the listings of corrections to articles. The navigation bar should be permanently affixed to the bottom of the screen, replacing the banner ad that continually blocks it, and one should be able to click an article on the overall view of a Trib page, read the article, then immediately jump back to the overall view. This version of the app will SOMETIMES allow that process, but because the app has such slow response, and because the banner ads seem to take control of the page, most of the time the top and bottom navigation bars do not pop up. Very frustrating!! If the clunky navigation and obstructive banner ads don’t get fixed, I won’t be renewing my subscription. ### 1/5 — Bad app *2023-03-24, version 6.4* The most frustrating app on my phone. Absurd amount of re logins. It’s bizarre they make you pay for such poor service ### 3/5 — Buggy when switching Wi-Fi networks *2023-03-14, version 6.4* This app is so buggy it drives me crazy. I have a plain vanilla iPad and every time I travel and change to a new hotel or family Wi-Fi I have reboot my iPad to get this to work. Sometimes two or more reboots. Every time I open it, it asks me to log in. It doesn’t use the keychain. I pay for a subscription and the app crashes every time I try to log in with my linked gmail account. Relatively new IPad Pro that I got to specifically read the paper. At least once a month I have to reload the app. ToDAY I reloaded it four times and I still can’t get pages or stories in readable size. Very frustrating. You’ve been digital for years. Why haven’t you figured this out? ### 1/5 — App is not okay nor good anymore. *2023-10-04, version 6.5.1* I have many issues with opening the newest newspaper articles in the mobile format. Sometimes when I’m reading an article the back and forward buttons disappear. When I can back out of an article it resets to the main page of the newspaper. It would be great to have the app open when I click on articles through Facebook or Instagram. It’s really disappointing to see a great app turn to dust. I’ll cancel my subscription soon if this keeps up. ### 1/5 — Not on iPad *2023-07-11, version 6.5.0* I have struggled with this app since they upgraded. It does not work on my iPad. I have had to download it multiple times because it doesn’t open. The latest edition doesn’t pop up and the adds block things and are very distracting. Why do I have to have adds when I pay for a subscription. ### 1/5 — Articles close on their own *2023-07-04, version 6.5.0* I often will make it halfway through an article just to have it close on me and go back to the main page. When I try to reopen the article, it closes again immediately. This happens regularly (and I have a subscription). It’s become so annoying that I don’t plan to renew my subscription. ### 1/5 — Bad upgrade *2023-05-28, version 6.5.0* Using on an iPad. The images are blurred. Difficult to read Doonesbury and other graphics because the smaller writing is pixilated. It loses your place when you reopen the app. Moving in and out of the print version loses your place. I trust our independent newspaper more than our legislators and politicians! ### 5/5 — Not so hot off the press *2022-11-14, version 6.4* This is a sorry ghost of the once revered Trib which you count on for breaking news and sports. Most missed? The objective and balanced coverage of local and state issues. Painful to see the degradation of Utah’s last best hope of journalism. On top of all that the digital interface is clunky, non-intuitive and inconsistent. Despite all that there is occasional good reading. But all in all, average to below average. ### 5/5 — So Much Better *2022-08-30, version 6.4* The latest updates to the Trib app have made it easier than ever to read my morning paper on my iPad. Still some random glitches, like photo captions that stray into placeholder gibberish, but that’s a rare, almost quaint occurrence. The reporting is significantly improved particularly with its greater focus on local/state’s worts and blemishes. The web page needs improvement particularly for older, predigital citizens. People were locked out of the app. I have been a subscriber for 50 years. I pay for the online paper. I tried for over a week to get access to the paper. Even customer support could fix it. So I quit. I no longer a subscriber. Whoever worked on this update needs to loose their job. This app gets a F.
