Support was excellent. Got back to me daily. Used it to run a 12 person travelling tournament. Quickly went to 16 people as everyone on the bus saw us having so much fun. Multiple games, leaderboard with skins as we'll. often new updates coming out. Set up your courses and players if possible we'll prior to the games then it takes under 7 minutes to input all the scores as it automatically goes to the next hole. Hidden partners and other games this software is the way to go. We are headed out for a 6 game 5 day trip and the ipad will be in the bag. Great sending out results instantly as well a must have for any bunch of golfers. ### 5/5 — A Breeze *2015-04-15* The Scoring Machine for iPad makes calculating the results of our rounds a breeze. Just used it for our rounds on a golf trip to calculate our net scores, skins, and other games we played during our rounds. The guys were surprised at how quickly and accurately I was able to report the results. Easy to use and covered everything we needed. It's very easy to use, can be easily configured to any golf course and has the ability to keep scores for almost every type of scoring system in the golfing world. It even keeps track of net scores by allowing difference in strokes to the players (ie lowest handicap player plays to scratch) It keeps track snd gives accurate matchplay results even when you are playing multiple matches on the same day with different partners and different opponents. I love this app. It can keep score of literally dozens of kinds of golf - most I never knew existed - and that just scratches the surface. If you play golf with your friends, you all need the Scoring Machine. ### 5/5 — Well-designed golf scoring app! *2014-04-28* Have used Scoring Machine on my iPhone 5S and it works great. Quick, intuitive, and has a seemingly endless number of ways you can score a round of golf for a group of pretty much any size. Would say it’s ideal for anyone running a golf league or association or just a regular weekend foursome. Seems to be a very stable and well designed application. No glitches or crashes that I’ve experienced yet. Looking forward to seeing how it runs on my iPad Mini! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Very few courses installed *2020-09-15* Very few courses are installed don’t waste your money send me my money back **Developer response:** All of our scoring software needs the best current information about the courses you're going to play - yardage, par, hole handicaps (and maybe name) for every hole, Course and Slope Ratings for every tee, for both genders if you plan to score for them. All of that is on the printed scorecard you get from your pro shop, and you can put all that information onboard The Scoring Machine in about 15 minutes - one time. If that doesn't work for you, we'll even do it for you. There are about 35,000 golf courses worldwide. It's simply impossible to accumulate all the information needed - which is consolidated nowhere else - for everyone's home course. The app provides access to our online archive of thousands of courses around the world - information provided most graciously by our customers - that can be downloaded in seconds. If your course isn't in the archives, you can make it so just by providing us (at support@mulligansoftware.com) a front and back picture of your scorecard, showing all the information and those ratings, and we'll put it online for you. But you never contacted us, nor seem to have used the built-in onboard Help to get started setting up your own course. We appreciate your business, and if you'd like some assistance, you simply need to ask. ### 1/5 — DO NOT BUY! Junk *2019-04-22* Does not have Match Play as stated. DO NOT BUY! **Developer response:** Reverendp: Sorry you aren’t happy with the match play features of The Scoring Machine. There’s a Match Play display accessible from the “Vs” tab at the bottom of the Scoreboard. For individual match play, tap a player’s score on the Scoreboard, and when you tap the Match Play tab, you’ll see that player’s results vs. EVERY other player on the Scorecard or in the Event. You can move any of those player’s to the “top” position to see them vs. the field too. For team match play, tap a team score on the Scoreboard, then the Match Play tab and you’ll have the same “vs. the field” results for teams. You can even share that match play display (print, social, message, email, etc.) or change match play configuration (Nassau, 18 holes, handicapping, auto presses, wager) from the same screen. Hardly “junk”! But, this is described in the onboard Help and you can always contact us for more. ### 1/5 — Came up way short *2018-04-10* Had so much hope for the app, but after spending hours setting up multiple scenarios for play, we found it to be quite disappointing. The UI is cumbersome. There are serious limitations as to the amount of scoring, particularly money game scoring, that you can do. If you are tracking a simple Nassau bet within a foursome then this will work fine. We have many instances where we play a fivesome, having 2 or 3 fivesomes and multiple team bets within the group, as well as bets between other individuals outside our group. The lack of customization within games renders it useless for our situation. There are better apps out there, albeit a little more expensive, that do considerably more. If you need simple score and wager tracking then this is fine. If you play in games that have multiple wagers between many players with multiple variables, then look elsewhere. **Developer response:** Hustler: Sorry you're unhappy... The Scoring Machine is in wide use for lots of "boys day out" play, including fivesomes with round-robin four-ball teams on your scorecard and match play across the field of lots of scorecards. If you didn't find what you needed in the built-in help, we'd be happy to assist. First, however, you'd have to contact us! ### 1/5 — Mr *2016-02-28* Poor all round. Waste of money. Hardly any UK courses. No mention of Stableford. Tested greensomes: no mention. Oh dear..!!! **Developer response:** This app supports Stableford, Half Stableford, Modified Stableford, Chicago, and The INTERNATIONAL - all Stableford points scoring systems. All of these forms of individual play can be combined with team games (four-ball, waltz, team total, teammate average, best ball of 2 or 3, and others). There is on-board Help in the app describing all these types of play and how to use them. Greensomes (alternate shot with selected drive) and appropriate handicapping for it is also built in. We always encourage you to contact us with questions. Since all our software requires very complete data about the course you play (every hole length, par, handicap stroke allocation, course rating or SSS, Slope rating when available for all tees for both genders, it's impossible for us to have all the courses in the world. However, you can preserve your own course's complete data for posterity and your use in a few minutes from within the software. Send that data to us, and we'll preserve it for everyone else too! Sorry we didn't have your course on file, but you can help make it so! ### 1/5 — Useless *2014-06-14* Bought this app hoping it would help with calculating some stableford scores. At the first screen it displays Pebble Beach course with room for you to add your course, the minute you do, the whole app crashes and then when you try to re-open it just crashes straight away. DONT BUY THIS APP! ### 2/5 — Could be good, but not there yet. *2022-10-03* App seems pretty good if you were having a large outing that is only one day. I planned to use it as a cumulative leaderboard for a multi-round golf trip but the app doesn’t have that capability. **Developer response:** Thanks for your input, and you're right that The Scoring Machine doesn't aggregate multiple-day Events. It wasn't designed to do so. It is most frequently used by solo golfers and smaller groups, but handles the big ones too. Mulligan's Eagle, for macOS, can use The Scoring Machine as an on-course component to retrieve scores, and it has spreadsheet export capabilities to help your multi-day scoring tasks. ### 3/5 — Could be better *2019-12-18* The betting and scoring portions are excellent, but the limited number of golf courses with scorecard information is disappointing. The average golfer is NOT playing at Augusta National or Pebble Beach. All of my other golf apps have nearly every golf course in their database. **Developer response:** ChasLee! - The Scoring Machine needs EVERYTHING that appears on the scorecard for the courses you play - yardages, pars, hole handicaps, course ratings, slope ratings for both genders, for 9 or 18 holes. Those other apps don’t, and all that data is NOT readily available, so we make it easy: • a thousand or more full scorecards available to download from our archives • simple, fast features to input your course data yourself- maybe 10 minutes work • an option for you to take a photo of your scorecard and send it to us - we’ll do the work and share it with the world You can always reach us at our support address and we can help - with anything - try us. Thanks for your support! ### 4/5 — I need help *2025-06-08* I really like the app. I switched courses and this course has different handicap holes for each tee. I haven’t figured out to set this up. **Developer response:** Gary - You've probably already found the answer, but for the record: o Set up hole handicaps (or pars) as most commonly shown on the printed scorecard. o Review the hole handicaps (pars) on each tee that need to be changed and remove them (select, delete, tab and repeat). o Return to the now missing entries on each tee and enter your new handicap or par values. ### 4/5 — Save your scores elsewhere... *2019-05-06* The app is good but I lost a number of scorecards for no apparent reason. I was putting new courses and events on and the older ones (less than a year and well under the recommended number) just evaporated! Contacted Support but they couldn’t assist. Other than that it’s a usable programme. **Developer response:** Sweepexec: You contacted us for support on 4/15 saying “I only had around 15 rounds so don’t know why they’ve vanished.” You also found the “older rounds” on the “first iPad” and that your “newer machine” has lost the data. Since two devices don’t share rounds unless one explicitly “publishes” those rounds, we weren’t able to determine how you “lost” any data. We’re, of course, sorry you experienced a problem, but we can’t solve it, nor have we had any similar reports. We can only recommend that you regularly back up your devices. And, we’re still interested - let us know immediately if you encounter this issue again. ### 4/5 — Very Solid Scoring App *2016-04-14* We used The Scoring Machine to score several different team games during a 12-man, four-team gold trip to Kiawah. The software was pretty straightforward. We added player handicaps and then course yardage and then selected a handful of games, from Modified Stableford to Scrambles with two-best balls. There are some glitches. First, very few courses are actually loaded. Second, when you edit a tournament, changes frequently don't save. Third, I wish the process of adding teams and scorecards was a little more straightforward. The sync between the iPad and iPhone versions through Dropbox worked the first time but not again. That said, all agreed this was a vast improvement on the spreadsheets used previously to score games, and should be a part of every golfer's app collection. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Download this app now! *2024-01-31* I was researching and downloading scoring apps for our complicated games, but nothing did everything I wanted in a scoring app. Until I found The Scoring Machine! It has everything I want, and more. If you’re thinking that this is a marketing review, it’s not! I never leave reviews unless it’s truly something I’m impressed with. Download this now before they raise their price, which they should! These people understand the game and how we play it to have more fun. Great job with this app folks! Fairways & Greens. ### 5/5 — Great scoring app for our annual golf trip *2023-04-22* I have been using this app for last 2 years. We go on a 16 person golf trip and use the stableford scoring system with 4 teams of 4 based on handicaps and it works perfectly. It does take time to input everyones scores and input golf course info if it’s not on there already. Once course info is added it is saved so saves a lot of time. Since The Scoring Machine can use ALL the data from the printed scorecard, there is some new-course setup effort. You can however, enter the gross hole-by-hole scores of 16 players in about 288 keystrokes, so there's time for settling up, lunch, and another round! Good golf. ### 5/5 — Impressive Product *2020-12-03* This App is the best that I’ve used and I’ve been through a few over the last year. I finally got it customized to our multiple gross and net bets amongst 4 players with the results in either the Scorecard or the Summary. I have a 20 person upcoming Match and this will definitely replace our spreadsheet. Sharing the results is also very easy via mobile devices. This is a great product and enhanced by very responsive technical support. They have some scoring options planned that will make it even better. On top of tracking individual scores, it tracks all of the team bets, skins, side games and much more. I couldn’t figure one thing out so I reached out the the developers. I received a personalized detailed email within minutes. This morning (Sunday) I had a follow up question and was expecting them to reply some time later this week. Nope, they again replied with a long detailed email which answered all of my questions today (Sunday). Loaded easily, works great, and is the first product (...tried many) that does Match Play ‘Differential’ player vs player Hcap scoring properly. Useable on all my Apple platforms (iPhone, mini-iPad, & iPad) via iCloud.
