### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2025-06-27, version 1.24*

Such a helpful app, complements the work I’m doing with my therapist. Would highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Really helpful

*2025-06-05, version 1.24*

Used this when really quite poorly with anxiety and it has really helped a lot especially with reducing the anxious and self critical thoughts. I keep using the breathing and calm place practices regularly too.

### 5/5 — A promising self help app

*2025-05-22, version 1.24*

Good app really. Very professional. It promises to help if you continue paying for it after the trial period is over. Maybe a price reduction once in a while would be more attractive. I was very happy with what I saw though.

### 5/5 — Helpful, supportive, informative and transformative

*2025-05-07, version 1.24*

This app is very, very good. Unobtrusive and down to earth help. Highly recommended. Be kind to yourself and use it.

### 5/5 — Explains everything perfectly

*2025-04-27*

Gives such a great variety of things to use and tool. The sessions explain everything so well. I’d suggest that anyone who doesn’t find this helpful isn’t fully committing to it. It has changed my life incredibly. As a psychologist I can say CFT has been the biggest thing that has changed my life. Learning to do something so unnatural has given me confidence to confront my most uncomfortable fears and emotions.

Expensive yes but worth every penny. Think of it as a longer term therapy for the price of one session!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this powerful review. We're incredibly grateful to hear how deeply the app and Compassion-Focused Therapy have impacted your life—both personally and professionally. Your words will inspire others to approach the process with openness and commitment 🧡

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2025-04-18, version 1.24*

This is more than just an app. It brings together valuable information and a wealth of resources in one place. It’s a great focal point to work through self-understanding and practical changes. Highly recommended. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Super helpful

*2025-04-17, version 1.24*

I find the app easy to use and helpful for growing self compassion. The mindfulness and meditation tools are really varied in lengths so there is always something I can choose to do. It’s helping me manage stress, anxiety and overwhelm so really useful as part of my toolkit for day to day wellbeing.

### 5/5 — Self investment, 100% worth it

*2025-04-08, version 1.24*

Phones are in our hands most of the time, so a course through an app is very handy. I’m finding this course beautiful, and it’s helping me. It was recommended by my therapist. I’m on day 5.

### 5/5 — Potentially Life Changing and Could Make the World a Better Place!

*2025-02-17*

I have got so much from this app and I’ve only used it for a couple of weeks. I’ve become so much more aware of my thoughts and how they have bene affecting my level of happiness. I have some practices that I now do daily which make me feel so much better about life. And I have just in the last few days learned how to identify thoughts and respond in better ways. I feel that I will accomplish a lot more with this app, I had been reading the Self Compassion Workbook but I am someone who likes to just start doing things rather than just reading about them (although I think the book is very beneficial too) but the app has really helped me adopt a lot of very practical helpful habits. I am so glad I found this.

### 5/5 — This is excellent

*2025-01-15, version 1.24*

I really appreciate the app and it is helping to build my self compassion.

I log what I am looking forward during my day and log what I am grateful for at the end of my day.

I am a mental health practitioner and would recommend this app to anyone whom would like to enhance the compassion that they have for themselves.

I have now been using the app for 3 plus years and use it every day. I incorporate my daughter into identifying what she is grateful for each day too.

### 5/5 — Life Changing

*2024-12-12, version 1.24*

At 58, my life has turned around because of this app..just in time to wrap up my life peacefully, and more happily, in the twilight years. A history of layers of mental abuse had left me in a worse place of undermining negative self-talk and looping than I'd thought. I'm looking forward to finishing this course. Highly recommend if you're exhausted by constant criticism and lack of self-esteem.

### 5/5 — Step-by-Step Compassion Support

*2024-10-14*

I’ve recently started the 28 day compassion programme and been really impressed. The content is clear and well paced, and includes well structured mix of education, self reflection, and compassion and mindfulness practices. I’m already starting to see improvements through tools like the daily journals and am excited to see how this develops over the rest of the course. I would recommend you give it a go if you’ve found other approaches like CBT have tended to increase self criticism, compassion really helps balance that whilst still allowing you to see loops and patterns that might be holding you back.

**Developer response:** We’re delighted that the 28-day program is already making a difference for you. It’s great to hear that the mix of education and mindfulness practices is resonating, and we’re excited for you to continue exploring the course. Thank you for recommending it!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2024-10-14, version 1.22*

Fantastic app so good for mental health in so many ways. I highly recommend

### 5/5 — Valuable self awareness app

*2024-09-30, version 1.22*

As a coach and teacher of resilience programs I very much value this app and have recommended it to people. It’s helping me personally soothe my own self critical nature. Self compassion is so fundamental to mental health .

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Why?

*2026-05-14*

A lot of people turn to these types of things to help them get understanding or to just help them in general. And when the app says oh we’re here to help but you have to pay for it? Really? What’s the point, you might as well just make people submit their insurance information! This is BS!

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear you were disappointed by your experience. We understand that cost can be a barrier, and we genuinely appreciate your perspective. We'd love the opportunity to help, so please get in touch with us at feedback@illumeapps.com and our team will be happy to assist you.

### 1/5 — How do you feel better?

*2025-01-13, version 1.24*

This app is completely fake it doesn’t help with anything and writing things about what we are stressed about is gonna make us think about it more. I always feel the same and developer just responds with sorry and other stuff. This is a bad app, not recommended.

### 1/5 — Bleak

*2024-11-23*

This has got to be the bleakest app I’ve ever downloaded. It’s almost does the complete opposite of what it states.

When you first go into the app, it tells you that you’re going to die. We know. Why do we need a reminder of that when downloading an app about Compassion?

For example, in my years of self-destruction, due to trauma, I have found the idea that death is inevitable an excuse for not actually trying. What’s the point of creating all these wonderful things if I’m going to turn to dust one day and be forgotten?

An immediate reminder of that made me feel less motivated to be compassionate to myself.

Then the first lesson is called “what is compassion”, which then gives a long speech about human suffering.

I’m not really sure who this is supposed to appeal to, but it made me feel really demotivated into actually change my life.

How am I meant to have compassion when everything is about suffering and eventually death? Just seems like a recipe for apathy.

I think the search for self compassion is going to have to be made without this app. Whats the next lesson: Your Cells Are Dying Everyday? A Reminder That Nothing You Do Is Worth Anything? Or Your Nan Will Die And You Will Be Sad?

A big fat one out of five stars.

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re truly sorry that the app didn’t resonate with you as intended. The approach we take is based on scientific research that has shown significant benefits, such as reducing stress, anxiety, and self-criticism.

To clarify, the first course, "What is Compassion," isn’t meant to focus solely on human suffering but to gently acknowledge life’s challenges while introducing tools for self-compassion and growth. We regret if this felt disheartening to you and sincerely hope you find a resource that aligns better with your needs. If you'd like to share more or discuss your experience further, feel free to reach out at feedback@psyt.co.uk. Wishing you the best on your journey.

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2024-02-06, version 1.21*

My previous rating and feedback seems to have been deleted.

I thought there would be more course material after the initial 28 days but that’s it. I contacted them multiple times and I got no response until after the 30 refund period. I told them this in an email and have had no response.

A bit disgusted that an app about compassion is just after your money.

### 1/5 — How do I cancel my subscription?

*2023-08-28, version 1.21*

Good app but I’ve had it for two years and can’t figure out how to cancel my subscription without losing my account. The app tells me to delete and I have to also cancel the subscription but no idea how to do this. Deceiving way to get people to continue their subscription.

### 1/5 — paywalls don’t make me want the app

*2021-12-11, version 1.09*

i’m sure this app works well, but i have a huge issue with putting the entire course behind a paywall. i guess i understand wanting to stay ad free, but there’s always the option to make this paid. it’s not just this app, it’s all self-help apps. putting the bulk of your content behind a paywall will always make me delete the app. this was disappointing :/

### 3/5 — Great App BUT

*2026-01-31, version 1.26*

Great self help app that I really enjoyed using I found it very helpful. Unfortunately the price after the trial in my opinion is too much so decided to not carry on using.

### 3/5 — Good but can be overwhelming

*2023-07-06, version 1.21*

It’s a good app although I find it can be a bit overwhelming with all the different elements to it, maybe a simpler version would be better?

### 4/5 — Good app - BUT no response if query

*2026-08-01*

This is a good app. I find that the interactive elements really help because they make me think and reflect. The Nudge is such a good idea too. I also like the fact that I can either read or listen to an exercise as suits your circumstances. The only suggestion I would make is that I sometimes get a message on my screen but then, when I click on it, it disappears. If I remember, I take a screenshot but it is sometimes evident that the message is not complete and I can't see the rest of it because it disappears when I click on it. A minor point, but perhaps a section for messages sent to us would be worth considering?

Update: I have knocked off a star because, although the app says we can edit or keep adding to our Compassionate Kitbag, there is no way to do this in the app. I have twice sent an email to ask how to do this but, apart from an auto-response saying that someone will get back to me in 24-48 hours, they don't. Disappointing.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and kind words. We're delighted you're enjoying the interactive features and nudges. We also really appreciate your suggestion about messages disappearing and having a message history—it’s valuable feedback, and we'll be sure to share it with our team as we continue improving the app.

### 4/5 — Helpful app

*2025-03-17, version 1.24*

Have been enjoying using the app. Easy to factor in to your day. Text could be a little bigger though! 😊

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Helpful Reminders

*2026-07-03*

Great app for someone cultivating kindness towards themselves. It’s helping me be better about that and I recommend it.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind words and recommendation. We're delighted to hear the app is helping you cultivate greater kindness towards yourself. Wishing you continued growth on your self-compassion journey.

### 5/5 — Well designed

*2026-06-19*

Using this app has helped me over the past few weeks. I find the lessons well informed and grounded in theory and I appreciate how the app builds upon itself. I am surprised by the insights it has provided to me thus far. It complements what I am working on with my therapist. Thank you for making such a well conceived tool for personal reflection and growth.

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your experience. We're so pleased the app is supporting the work you're doing with your therapist and helping you gain meaningful insights. Your kind words mean a great deal to us, and we wish you all the best on your self-compassion journey.

### 5/5 — Brilliant app

*2026-06-19, version 1.26*

### 5/5 — Just starting out

*2025-07-17, version 1.24*

Just starting my cft journey. I’ve found the app very informative and full of different tools. Love the way the courses layer ontop of each other. Was a big purchase but I feel it’s been worth the investment.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2025-07-15*

Substantive app with lots of concrete information and tangible practices to apply. I really like how accessible the information is. Beautiful interface as well. I also bought the corresponding work book and like it because I can go deeper into the subject matter. Highly recommend!

**Developer response:** We truly appreciate this thoughtful review, thank you! We're so glad you’re finding the app both informative and practical, and that the design and structure are making your experience enjoyable. It's wonderful to hear the workbook is helping you go even deeper. Thank you again for the kind recommendation and for engaging so fully with the tools.
