### 1/5 — Good shades, bad app

*2020-02-14, version 1.1.28*

Dear Shade Store, you are no longer merely in the shade business. You are in the home automation business now. Building a better home automation app and adequate integration with Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant, and HomeKit is not that hard. However, you need to get it right or your business will dry up. The Dooya/Gizwits people you’ve outsourced to are not up to the task; fire them and hire developers who are specialists in great UX. That skill is much more important than knowledge of shade motors.

**Developer response:** Hello,

Thank you for reaching out with your feedback. As user configured home automation becomes more of a standard in the retail market, we have started on our path to increased IoT integration capabilities as well. We are in active development of the next iteration of our mobile application and home automation integration offering. Compatibility and control by way of the top voice control assistants on the market will be included in our platform and we will look to continually incorporate the feedback of our customers into our platform updates as we move into the future.

Should you have any other questions or feedback, please feel free to reach out to me directly. I can be reached at jacklyn@theshadestore.com or 1.800.754.1455 EXT 264.

### 1/5 — HomeKit

*2020-02-12, version 1.1.28*

The lack of HomeKit support is incredibly frustrating.

While I appreciate the developer’s response to the question back in June, it’s now October and still no sign of HomeKit support.

Update: It has been two and a half years since I got these blinds, and it’s the same story time and again: “We’re actively working on feature x...” At this point, I am convinced that whoever responds to these reviews is outright lying.

If not, I’m happy to actively test and provide feedback on any alpha or beta versions in the works through TestFlight.

AND NOW... The Shade Store indicates in its response here that we will all need to purchase new hardware to use HomeKit, Google Assistant and ALL THE FEATURES THEY HAVE BEEN PROMISING FOR TWO YEARS as an app update. This news arises despite the fact that Apple has eliminated its physical security chip requirements and Google never had them. Dumbfounded.

**Developer response:** Hi Jack,

I am so sorry you feel this way! I assure you, we are not lying about the the app, and new wifi bridge. This is still a top priority for us, and we are hoping to launch very soon. As soon as we do, you will be the first to know.

If you need anything else, please let me know by contacting me directly at jacklyn@theshadestore.com or 1.800.754.1455 EXT 264.

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 1/5 — Very disappointing app

*2020-02-06, version 1.1.28*

After hours of programming each blind in the app. All worked fine for about a month. Since a week now, blinds go randomly go down or up, and if I try to manually raise the blinds on the app ; it says : ATTENTION This devise is offline! Retry to connect?
👎🏻

### 1/5 — So far not a fan

*2020-02-04, version 1.1.28*

This app has been so difficult to set up. The installer had a hard time, phone tech support has also had a hard time. At this point l can raise and lower the shade with the app in real time but I cannot set a scene or set a timer. Very frustrating.

### 1/5 — Very poor technical capabilities and support

*2020-01-27, version 1.1.28*

I write this review for the technical aspect of this product alone. The shades themselves are beautiful and well designed.

The app, lack of home integration, and WiFi bridge are horrendous.

First, the WiFi bridge initially sent to me was DoA. It would not turn on, and only displayed a faint red light on the inside of the bridge. I asked my “design consultant” to help send a new one, she claimed she did, but it was only after I called the Shade Store’s support line that a new WiFi bridge was sent.

Second, the lack of Apple Home Kit integration is unacceptable. My design consultant represented that the Shade Store would “soon” roll out Apple Home integration. In noticing other reviews, apparently “soon” can drag on for months or years, based on the cookie cutter “Developer Response.” The developer responses stating that it will be supported in the future with no promised date at this point is no promise at all.

Third, it should not go un-noticed that this is the Shade Store’s entire business. Shades in people’s homes. Have they really not dedicated their business to bringing their product line into conformity with their competitors? As of the time I am writing this review apparently not.

Finally, I hope this serves as a fair warning to potential customers in the future. If I had not already spent thousands of dollars on these units and installed them myself I would have gone with a different company. Sadly, this conclusion is compelled only by the incredibly poor IT aspect of these products. Caveat emptor.

### 1/5 — Misled

*2020-01-15, version 1.1.28*

When I purchased the system I was told it was Homekit compatible ie you can use Siri. Now I find out that there is no Homekit. Would not have bought this product if they had been honest with me.
Assured that Homekit would be ready by June 2019
It’s now near end of Oct and no Homekit/Siri.
It’s now first quarter 2020 and no Homekit.

### 1/5 — Apple HomeKit

*2020-01-13, version 1.1.28*

Promised 4th quarter 2019. Nowhere to be seen after buying $8,000 in shades based on that commitment alone.

### 1/5 — App is awful!

*2019-12-29, version 1.1.28*

After a few months of working it stopped. Now shades go up and down when they want to and I cannot fix it unless I manually control them. I have spent hours trying to reprogram my WiFi hub. It won’t even create a “location” in the app so can’t get anything to work! Nothing. App is simply terrible and instructions don’t explain what do do when the app gives you errors or how to troubleshoot. Avoid this product!

**Developer response:** Hi Ripoff,

I am so sorry about this! Please know that there was a glitch on the app with the location, but this has been corrected, and everything is working as expected. If you are still having issues, please feel free to give us a call so we can troubleshoot further. I can be reached at 1.800.754.1455 EXT 264 or jacklyn@theshadestore.com.

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 2/5 — Modernization update needed

*2019-12-24, version 1.1.28*

There are some super simple tweaks that would make this app and system very desirable. I’m dumbfounded some CEO hasn’t realized how inferior the IT side of their product is in relation to other “smart home” technologies. A sundown and sunrise feature is rudimentary, but would save so much monthly reprogramming of daily timers. Their Alexa integration needs some simple changes to make it more intuitive, saying “turn on blinds” to use them as a “light” makes no sense. Verbal integration is the new standard, a owner should be able to easily program and then say exactly what they want, such as “lower living room blinds to 50 percent “. This is no where close to what is currently available with this app or hardware.

**Developer response:** Hello,

We are in active development of additional features such as the sunlight/ dusk functionality that you mentioned. We hope to have these available in the future.

If you need anything else at all, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 2/5 — HomeKit?

*2019-12-02, version 1.1.28*

Can we please finally get HomeKit integration? I understand that this isn’t trivial to add and software estimates are always wrong. But, it’s been more than 6 months since this was promised. We’ve spent a lot of money on our shades and the automation story has been very disappointing.

**Developer response:** Hi Undavidum,

I am very sorry about this - please know this is of upmost importance to us, and we are working very hard on this. I assure you, we hear you, and will do everything we can to make this available as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2019-11-22, version 1.1.28*

Works maybe 10% of the time. Loses your settings randomly. Crazy they can't make this work. And you have to buy a $250 attachment to even try.

### 1/5 — Garbage app. Can’t get it to work. Neither can Shade Store rep

*2019-11-16, version 1.1.28*

Been through two bridges and countless attempts including an official visit by a Shade Store rep. Nothing.

App doesn’t connect to the bridge in auto mode. Or in manual.

Since iOS 13 launched app doesn’t even recognize wifi networks.

Completely broken.

Focus on shades and motors and open up your apis. This is ridiculous.

### 1/5 — HomeKit Still Missing

*2019-11-11, version 1.1.28*

Despite years of its executives promising that HomeKit support is imminent in the next update, The Shade Store still refuses to meet the modern needs of its loyal customers.

Until HomeKit support is enabled, this app (and brand, frankly) is simply no longer competitive in the marketplace.

I am switching to Lutron’s Serena shades for my next purchase, which has supported HomeKit for (literally) years.

**Developer response:** Hi Dhjosetb,

We appreciate your feedback, and I'm very sorry this hasn't met your expectations. We don't take feedback like this lightly, and I assure you we are dilegently working towards Apple HomeKit compatability.

If you need anything else, or have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly at jacklyn@theshadestore.com or 1.800.754.1455 EXT 264.

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 1/5 — So disappointing

*2019-11-06, version 1.1.28*

Spent thousand on shades and they can’t keep their app up to date? Worked intermittently at first, since most recent iOS update it has not worked at all. Will not buy shade store items again.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2023-03-04*

I set this up when I first got shades (with a lot of trouble then) but the app kept deleting or unpairing with various shades. Pairing with the remote never worked, pairing with the bridge was a hassle (once shades are hung) and often didn’t work.

I tried to set this up again and now the bridge won’t pair automatic or manual (had to go through troubleshoot), and once the bridge was set up, none of the shades will pair with the app using either of the two methods (remote or bridge).

The app is useless.

### 1/5 — Reset password link not working

*2022-10-09, version 1.1.31*

When I got my new iPhone, it made me log back in, but I don’t know the password. I’ve used the reset password link 5 times over 2 days and I am getting no emails. Please help!

### 1/5 — Worked for a while

*2021-07-25, version 1.1.31*

Now timers don’t work, tried to set up new timers. No luck. Help menu takes you to the web page with the original set up guide. Very frustrating and disappointing for the high cost.

### 1/5 — Amateurish

*2021-05-30, version 1.1.31*

Worst app on my phone. Poorly designed and incredibly finicky. Wish I had gone with a different brand with better software.

### 1/5 — User help needs a lot is improvement

*2021-01-17, version 1.1.31*

There’s no way to get your app password if you forget it. The “help” option takes you to the shade store website and is only help for design needs. Ugh! I can’t get this working on my new phone and I can’t remove the app to reboot. I’ve deleted it, but when I reload it, it only reopens and immediately sends me the login page.

**Developer response:** Hello,

I am so sorry to hear about the issues you are having! Please know, I will do everything I can to help you correct this.

In the settings, there is an account section where you can select "forgot password". This will then send you a link to reset.

Any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly at jacklyn@theshadestore.com or 1.800.754.1455 EXT 264.

### 1/5 — Does not function, horrible app!

*2020-09-29, version 1.1.31*

This app is terribly written, it’s clunky and feels like something from 20 years ago. Non-stop errors without meaningful error messages. It doesn’t work most of the time, it only raises or lowers some blinds but not others.

This is a complete misrepresentation of what I was told by salespeople and customer service prior to placing an order.

**Developer response:** Hello,

I am very sorry to hear about the issues you are having - I would love to troubleshoot this with you, and discuss the errors you are seeing so we can resolve these for you. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at 1.800.754.1455 EXT 264 or jacklyn@theshadestore.com.

I look forward to working with you!

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 1/5 — This company straight up do not care

*2020-07-24, version 1.1.31*

Awful app that never connects. Pointless

### 1/5 — App Has Limitations

*2020-05-16, version 1.1.30*

We have nine motorized devices (shades) in four rooms. It is quite limiting to have only a 20 timers capacity. If you set each shade to open once in the morning and to close at night, that’s 18 timers used already. If you want to close certain ones during the day when the sun is coming in, you don’t have much of an option remaining. So, we had to make the decision to leave certain shades open all night to save timer slots. Six shades at the back of the house stay open all night for this reason when normally we would close them. The app is still unstable; sometimes an issue arises where a shade doesn’t close even though the app hasn’t been accessed. Nothing has been changed, it just decides to not function. I am forced to use the wireless hand-held controller several times a day, so the “automatic” timer function is anything but.
Update: Following up on input from the app’s developer, we did two things; 1) we moved the WiFi bridge to a more central location. We already had a signal booster close to the shades. After moving the bridge (just a small black box the size of a deck of cards), all of the shades came back online and have stabilized so that they work both on the timers and when you manually engage “Go” on a scene; 2) we set the timers to activate scenes instead of individual devices. This cut down on the number of timers used so that now all shades can be closed at night and shades can be closed on timers as necessary during the day when the sun is coming in, especially this time of year when the sun is lower in the sky. After having good performance for two weeks, I would rate the app much higher, probably a “4”.

### 1/5 — New Hub Required?

*2020-04-06, version 1.1.30*

After long promises of HomeKit and other third party support, a new hub has been released. Your loyal customers now have to purchase a new hub ($160) to get the features you kept promising we coming soon.

I can’t begin to express how frustrated I am with the Shade Store. The shades are great, but all the undelivered promises are disappointing to say the least.

**Developer response:** Hello,

I am so sorry to hear about this, and I would love to work with you to make this right.

At your convenience, please feel free to reach out to me to discuss. I can be reached at jacklyn@theshadestore.com or 1.800.754.1455 EXT 264.

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 1/5 — They can’t get it right

*2020-03-14, version 1.1.29*

I have been working with technical support to get my issues fixed before I write a review, but they seem to not be able to figure anything out.

I have multiple hubs due to the number of shades in my home. The hubs keep failing. The time on the hubs are not in sync and scenes run at odd times. Even after manually syncing the hubs, they continue to malfunction.

Trying to automate my shades using this technology was an absolute waste of money.

I wish I had gone with Serena or Somfy as their apps seem to work!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — This works great for me

*2020-03-08, version 1.1.28*

With all the bad reviews, I feel compelled to say that we have had absolutely no problem with the app and our shades over the first month.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review! We're so glad you enjoy using our app!

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 5/5 — Does what it needs

*2019-08-20, version 1.1.27*

Works well. Developers are responsive to inquiries.

### 5/5 — Looking forward to Apple HomeKit function

*2019-03-29, version 1.1.27*

Great app, not sure what all of the fuss is about.

We have 12 windows in three separate rooms. Easy programming and all screens and routines work flawlessly.

Well done!

**Developer response:** Hi, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review! We are glad that you are enjoying the app. Should you have any questions, please reach out to help@theshadestore.com.

Jacklyn Decker, Customer Care Manager

### 4/5 — works again!

*2020-05-01, version 1.1.30*

update: issue fixed after dev responded. thanks!
--
tried installing skill again, can control through shadestore app(but flakey), but cant see devices in alexa anymore.

### 4/5 — Lost All Settings/Can’t Re-Add

*2020-04-11, version 1.1.30*

UPDATE: Wifi bridge was in standby mode. After re-pairing with my home router, all settings were in my app again and working well.

APRIL 8, 2020: I found it pretty intuitive to set up the first time. Then my motorized blinds needed charging. Now the app don’t show any of my rooms/shades/timers/schemes and I can’t add them back in to the app for some reason. It is like they are there but invisible because shades are operating based on the last timer settings I had, but I need to adjust the time and have no way of doing that.

**Developer response:** Hello,

Thank you for your review! I am glad you were able to figure out the issue you were having. Should you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to our team at help@theshadestore.com or 1.800.754.1455 Option 2.

Kind regards,

Jacklyn Decker

### 4/5 — Needs Sunrise/Sunset Schedule

*2017-05-07, version 1.1.14*

Overall a nice app, but badly needs some advanced features. In particular, the ability to set timers relative to sunrise and sunset would be very helpful. Currently, I have a timer set up to close shades at s certain time. It would be very nice to be able to specify timers to "close 30 minutes after sunrise" and "open 1 hour before sunset." Since the WiFi bridge has access to the network and could presumably access internet weather/time zone data, this shouldn't be too difficult to implement. In fact, if it can access also weather data, the possibilities are endless.

### 3/5 — V1 app works for me but can’t connect to Google Home?

*2021-12-29, version 1.1.31*

How do I connect V1 and wifi bridge to Google Home?

### 3/5 — Google integration please

*2020-02-25, version 1.1.28*

These are really good shades and the hardware/motors/batteries are excellent.

The app takes some getting used to but it works.

Can the developer please give us an update on Google Home integration progress? Thank you.

Scott

### 3/5 — Integration with Google Home

*2019-04-03, version 1.1.27*

Would be terrific if had Google Home integration. Is there an update on timing of release? Comment in December said 2nd quarter 2019. Is this still happening?

### 2/5 — Too many problems

*2021-03-15, version 1.1.31*

Does not automatically handle day light savings, reset Pw does not work.
