What I really didn’t like about the last version was that after spending a lot of time customising it to my liking, it would sporadically return all the settings to default which put me off using the app completely in the end. I’m happy to see this issue doesn’t occur in this new version (so far). I like this version enough to consider upgrading to ultimate, but I would like more details about what i’m actually going to get for my money, the website seems to be a bit vague about this. I’m a casual astronomer, I don’t have a telescope which is software compatible and it appears that this is the main benefit of upgrading. Edit: Just seen that a free trial of Ultimate is now being offered, so this has answered my question. However, after accepting the offer i’ve opened the app and there are no noticeable additions, in fact I can’t see any at all ?! Edit: The free trial expired before the fix and I didn’t even get a chance to try the Ultimate version. Email was sent to the developer and I received no reply. I want to see what I’m getting before I upgrade but I cannot use the free trial again. Disappointed! Response to developer comment: I have sent an email stating just that, and I’ve sent a private message on the Facebook group and I haven’t had a reply to either. **Developer response:** Hi ChrisR36, we kindly ask you to send an email to support@redshiftsky.com. Die App gefällt mir immer noch richtig gut, allerdings verstehe ich immer noch nicht, warum die Erde bei „Standort festlegen“ auch noch zwei Jahren immer noch so unscharf bzw. verpixelt ist. Andere, noch weiter entfernte Galaxien können jedoch nicht angeflogen werden ### 4/5 — JWST is missing? *2024-07-27* I tried to find the James Webb Space Teleskope, but couldn‘t find it. ### 3/5 — A True Contender *2022-01-12* Update 01/11/2022: So after about a year of the subscription fee I'm disappointed to say there's been nothing added since my original review. It makes me wonder what exactly I'm paying for. It seems like they just want to resell me the app over and over again without giving me anything in return. I understand that apps require upkeep and without it they quickly become abandoned, which in turn means they inevitable quit working as they fall further and further behind. On the other hand I want more than just maintenance updates if I'm gonna be paying a hefty annual subscription fee. I guess time will tell but I doubt I'll be subscribed for much longer if no further content is ever offered. It's a shame too because I really want to support science apps but I also want to feel I'm getting my money's worth. This is a great app but there's always room to grow. Do the devs agree? When the devs first released this new version of their astronomy software, Redshift, I was excited. I've spent countless hours with their old version exploring and reading everything it had to offer. I quickly preordered the new version and waited for it to be released while wondering what new treasures were in store. Then after it was finally released came the disappointment. While the new Redshift looked more polished there seemed to be very little in terms of new content and what seemed even worse to me at the time was that now it came with a subscription fee. I was tempted to rush to the app store to write a scathing review but I decided to wait to see if anything new might still be coming. Ultimately, it was the right move. Adding the ability to explore different galaxies like you would for objects inside the Milky Way is a fantastic new addition that really expands the feeling of depth to this model universe. I do wish you had more range to view the universe on the grandest scale but you are only able to zoom out 100kpc away from any galaxy. I would like to be able to rotate the universe from a greater distance and then zoom down into a random galaxy. While I don't expect to be able to see objects in the far away galaxies it would be cool if eventually they added certain objects that we can observe in the nearby galaxies such as the LMC, SMC and Andromeda. Hopefully, that's why they have subscription fee now, to have ability to keep adding content. I can't wait to see what develops but for now it's a solid 4 stars with potential to be a perfect 5. Thanks to the devs on their awesome astronomy app! ### 3/5 — Hoffe auf eine Anpassung an ipados15… *2021-09-01* ..denn die Steuerung, speziell die Rakete für den Flug, ist zu weit oben und kollidiert ständig mit den Symbolen für die Splitscreens. Auch die Datenbank könnte größer sein, Sterne außerhalb der Milchstraße? Auch gehört die Datenbank mal aktualisiert, viele Entfernungsangaben entsprechen schon seit einigen Jahren nicht mehr dem Stand der kosmologischen Erkenntnissen. Ansonsten nice gemachte App, für knapp 10€ okay, aber es ist kaum verständlich was das Abo für die Ultimate für einen Mehrwert bieten soll ### 5/5 — The Good & Bad *2021-06-08* This is my favorite astronomy app, I’v been using it for years now and I just love how in depth you can go when you travel to near by stars and galaxy it’s incredible to me that they have mapped this much space and actually have been able to calculate every star and galaxy to real live time, you can even travel in the future like I think 100 years ? Maybe more then that, I’v used this app many times to check out a reported close encounters with certain meteorites that were reported by nasa or main stream media outlets and it’s fun to see how they project it’s trajectory. I’m not even an astronomer I just love to learn about space. I don’t like though that you guys keep upgrading all the versions cause I’v purchased the $50 one and the older $20 app and to be honest im not too excited if you guys are switching to subscription instead that would bum me out and lose me as a customer maybe if it’s a $1.99 a month idk. Still, Love this product love the app definitely 5 Star rating and incredible work mapping and documenting everything you have been able to discover or help discover 👍🏼! ### 5/5 — Usually fabulous *2021-01-03* Since last update however none of the information is accurate. Keeps telling me that the sun rises at 12 noon and there is no setpoint. Keep saying the moon is 98% full and rising although we are waning and just before half. When I hit reset to current location everything goes black except for the orbits. Best of all, when I hit follow the sky, I get a pop-up telling me that follow the sky only works when I am on earth. 😦 Update. I got in touch with the developer and they told me to delete it and reinstall. Ever since then it has worked out fabulously. Dommage ! ### 5/5 — Good App *2020-09-16* Have just updated my old Redshift App to this one and I am very pleased with it. Has some big improvements and the basic version is well worth the money. Not so sure about the subscription update and I think it should be a bit more flexible. There are only a couple of features that I would like from the subscription version but they are not worth paying the amount of money being asked to get. I feel that it would be better if we could pick and choose what we want. I only have two criticisms of the App. The first is the size of the moon. Unless you zoom right in, it appears as a bright point in the sky. When I look at the moon in real life it always appears with a face with clearly visible markings. Secondly, the 'Todays Sky' is pretty useless as it shows hardly any information. To me, it should show which planets will be visible and when, moon rise and set plus perhaps the best three or four deep sky objects. You can add the planets to your Favourites which then gives you the above information so why have ‘Today’s Sky' unless it contains more information. So, overall a good, easy to use App and well worth the money. ### 4/5 — Do not reinstall *2020-07-28* If you have installed the ultimate version, you will lose telescope control and extended time frames to just 1600AD upon re-installation. ### 5/5 — Leider *2020-07-14* Ich kenne dieses Programm etliche Jahren und bin sehr begeistert. Es lief bei mir auf dem Computer. Doch was mir heute passiert ist, ist sehr ungewöhnlich. Es erschien eine Meldung zur Bewertung, gerne füllte ich die fünf Sterne aus, doch danach lief das Programm nicht mehr, und lässt sich nicht mehr aktivieren. Schade, vorbei gegriffen. Jetzt bin ich sehr enttäuscht. Bestanden hätte man mindestens mit personalisierten Codes entgegen kommen können. Nebenbei hat sich an der Grafik nichts verbesserter - das Menu hat ein Facelift bekommen - mehr nicht. Ihre Antwort ist maximal daneben. Original: Ich habe bei Red Shift Pro viele Einkäufe gehabt. Jetzt wird die App abgelöst und ich muss alles erneut kaufen/abonnieren. Das ist schon dreist. Die Einkäufe sollen schon zu übertragen sein, wenn man eine App abschaltet und eine reine Designaktualisierung als „verbesserte“ App verkauft. Dafür hätte es keine neue App gebraucht. Die neue App braucht es nur um Kunden das Geld doppelt abzunehmen. Miese Masche. **Developer response:** Sehr geehrter Kunde, Redshift Pro wurde 2015 veröffentlicht. Im Jahr 2020 mussten wir diese Version aus dem Verkauf nehmen, da sich die technischen Gegebenheiten stark weiterentwickelt hatten und eine weitere Entwicklung der alten App mit vertretbarem Aufwand nicht mehr möglich war. Unsere neue App haben wir in vieler Hinsicht deutlich verbessert. Leider ist es im iOS Store jedoch nicht möglich, Käufe von einer App auf eine andere App zu übertragen, wir bitten dafür um Ihr Verständnis. ### 1/5 — App stürzt ab *2025-08-20* Seit dem letzten Update stürzt die App auf dem iPad ab, bevor sie sich überhaupt öffnet! **Developer response:** Lieber Redshift Kunde, dies war leider ein Fehler in der Version 1.6.1, den wir inzwischen behoben haben. Jetzt funktioniert auch die Ultimate Einmalzahlung ohne Probleme. Wir entschuldigen uns für die Unannehmlichkeiten.Nachtrag: Es tut uns sehr leid, aber es gab tatsächlich noch ein weiteres Problem. Es trat nur dann auf, wenn die Einstellungen unserer App über die iCloud synchronisiert wurden, und zwar nur dann, wenn ein Nutzer parallel mit mehreren iOS-Geräten arbeitet. Auch dies ist nun behoben. Nach dem Einspielen des Updates sollte jetzt wirklich alles funktionieren. Wir bedauern dies sehr und wünschen weiter viel Spaß mit unserer App! ### 1/5 — Off by 20°. Cannot fix. *2025-08-04* It doesn’t navigate properly. I can point my iPhone towards the moon stars or planets. It’s always about 20° off. I’ve tried to calibrate the compass. Enttäuschend ### 1/5 — move the rocket button *2021-12-31* it is in the same space as apple's stupid three dots at the top center of the screen. apple will never move its three dots multiscreen buttons, so sky needs to move its button. the rocket mode can not be access now. ### 1/5 — Lost the most important element *2020-11-27* Very very disappointed to discover that with the new version you can only go back to 1600 AD. This makes the tool totally useless for the work that I do. Total disappointment when I purchased this based on their advertisement that states "You can simulate the universe from 1000BC up to the year 2500 AD". If you plan to use the time option... Ich habe dafür aber Geld bezahlt und nun ist die App verschwunden. Ich habe also eine App Leiche auf dem Ipad und kann damit nichts anfangen weil die Entwickler deren Unterstützung eingestellt haben. Frechheit! Ich nenne das Betrug am Kunden. Für die 10 € hier bekommt man nervige Yoga-Musik und Sternbild-Animationen die kein Mensch braucht. Ich werde mir das Geld erstatten lassen, denn aktuelle Informationen und eine neue App-Version hätte man für die Hälfte als InAppKauf machen können. ### 1/5 — Gehört jetzt zu den großen Mogelpackungen im Appstore *2020-06-13* Ihr habt mir mein sehr gutes und jeden Tag genutzte Redshift für bezahlte 9,99€ ungefragt genommen und gebt mir dafür ein stark eingeschränktes Redshift Ultimate für Anfänger und Kinder zurück. Zusätzlich zockt ihr mich durch ein überteuertes Abo ab, damit ich überhaupt ein paar Dinge aus meinem alten Redshift wieder zurückbekomme. Das Redshift Ultimate (Stand Juni 2020) hat unübersichtliche Menüs, eingeschränkte Funktionalität, weniger Daten über Satelliten und andere Himmelskörper, stark eingeschränkte Möglichkeit der individuellen Anpassung (Umgebung, Musik, Töne). Alles in allem: Redshift Ultimate ist ein unausgereiftes Stück Software, das nur programmiert wurde, um dem Anwender viel Geld aus der Tasche zu ziehen. Mit mir nicht. Es war für mich das letzte Abo. Danach ist Schluß mit dieser Methode. Bye by Redshift! ### 1/5 — Very angry. *2020-04-21* There seems to be 2 versions of this app. I decided to go for the so called “free trial”. The free trial cost £8.99 and is taken out of your account straight away. It appears by going for the trial version you are diverted to actually buying the paid for one. Then you are informed in six days they will take a further £13.49 out of your account. I have managed to [hopefully] cancel the £13.49 subscription. Note to apple. If you need some more help with this issue, please contact our support team via ios@usm.de. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Hervorragende Software *2025-04-02* Die Vorgänger-Versionen „Redshift“ und „Redshift Pro“ wurden offensichtlich überarbeitet, die graphische Darstellung erweitert und verbessert sowie auch die Menüs neu und übersichtlicher sortiert. Allerdings war das 1. Release v1.0 erst mal ziemlich ärgerlich für Stammkunden (wie mich): Das Ultimate-Probeabo funktionierte nicht, in „Redshift Sky Pro“ fehlten Funktionen aus der Vorgänger Redshift-App und viele Stammkunden (wie ich) mögen absolut kein Abo-Geschäftsmodell. Bis dahin gab’s erst mal 2 Sterne von mir. Inzwischen sind mit den Updates 1.0.2 und 1.0.3 die ärgsten Ärgernisse behoben und „Redshift Sky Pro“ gefällt mir als Nachfolger von „Redshift“ wieder richtig gut - trotzdem zunächst nur 4 Sterne. Den 5. Stern gab‘s von mir erst, nachdem der Abo-Zwang für „Ultimate“ aufhörte und auch zusätzlich eine einmalige Kauf-Option für „Ultimate“ angeboten wurde.
