### 2/5 — Newer is not always better

*2026-01-09, version 8.0.1*

I’ve been reading the Star-Ledger since I was a kid, I wanted to continue reading it when I retired to Arizona. Since all my family (and sport teams) are back in NJ i decided to continue the reading experience digitally. Well, the experience is less than optimal in the app. It is extremely quirky . Here are a few of my observations:
1. Slow to load
2. Reloads when being activated from background
3. Will not maintain zoom on first (and most times second) use. A few seconds after zooming, it reverts back to the default 2 page view
4. When iPad is put to sleep, it will reboot even if it was active, and then see number 3
5. In facsimile view, it’s difficult to follow a story continued on other pages - the older versions had hyperlinks to the continuation
6. The lack of ability to follow web links in stories is frustrating. Why have the links if you can’t use them?
Is there any way to make this app behave like the older versions? Upgrades are supposed to enhance the experience not make it worse.

### 4/5 — Sports

*2025-11-08, version 6.1.1*

Rutgers Football

### 2/5 — the paper

*2025-10-17, version 6.1.1*

it’s definitely not the same reading the paper online. I miss the actual newspaper!

Problem printing crossword puzzles since app prints puzzle on 1 page and then pages and pages of the clues (all the across clues singularly down the page and then all the down clues singularly down the page RATHER THAN a single page in grid form).

Same monthly cost for all electronic format as it was for paper yet they are saving all kinds of costs in printing (equipment, materials, maintenance, buildings and land) and delivery (vehicles, maintenance, labor etc). Why not reduce the monthly cost passing SOME of the increased profits along to subscribers?

### 3/5 — Unbalanced viewpoints.

*2025-09-28, version 6.1.1*

Ive been a Star Ledger subscriber for over 30 years. Every year has become more leftist and not balanced. I am now considering letting my subscription lapse. Be FAIR and balanced, not dogmatically leftist please!!!!!
Even Julie has her discussions with at best a centrist. Less Tom Moran , More Paul Mulshine and his type!!! TRULY show both sides, dont indoctrinate….. EDUCATE and let US the readers make up our minds.

### 2/5 — Hard to use!

*2025-07-25, version 6.1.0*

If I hit the link in the e-mail, it takes me to my browser instead of the app.

I find the app not intuitive, it's heard to navigate.

When I read the comics, I have to scroll thru them all, all I want to do is read my favorites, I can read then free on another website.

### 2/5 — ONLINE

*2025-06-11, version 6.1.0*

ABSOLUTELY HATE HAVING TO GO ONLINE TO READ A NEWSPAPER!

### 2/5 — A disappointment

*2025-06-10, version 6.1.0*

After 4 months of the digital Star Ledger,I have to say it is a disappointing change. I must daily print out the crossword puzzles which is becoming expensive and, especially on Sundays, the puzzles print is too small to clearly see the clues and the numbers on the grids. On top of all the many problems I am still billed a very high price for my subscription. Why the high price when cost of delivery has been eliminated ?

### 3/5 — Review

*2025-02-06, version 6.0.0*

Much prefer the old edition

### 2/5 — Search Bar?

*2025-02-04, version 6.0.0*

The guide to transitioning to the online paper featured a "search" function up in the banner. None appears on the phone. It's really absurd to scroll through dozens of pages to find what you're looking for ( the bridge column for ex.). Takes far more time than the paper edition.

### 2/5 — So unhappy

*2025-02-03, version 6.0.0*

I’m so unhappy to be reading the paper online. This is not the way to enjoy the news.

### 3/5 — Uh

*2025-02-02, version 6.0.0*

Where’s my SL icon?

### 2/5 — Difficult to navigate

*2025-01-05, version 6.0.0*

I have subscribed to the Ledger for many years. I don’t like the digital version and may cancel my subscription, I like to read about local politics and can’t find them, I actually think the comics are amusing and have difficulty locating them etc etc

### 2/5 — Not happy

*2024-12-28, version 6.0.0*

We had finally gotten a handle on how to read the Saturday edition online and then the Star Ledger changed the format. It is not easy to read now and I cannot print my crossword puzzles like I was able to before the change.

### 1/5 — New online

*2024-12-25, version 6.0.0*

I had no issues using the online paper but now the “improved” version is too touchy at times and then other times it’s difficult to get the pages to turn. Also, why are the headings gone which allowed you to jump to certain sections?

### 2/5 — Not a fan

*2024-12-23, version 6.0.0*

Don’t really need or want the app, but the web version doesn’t work on my iPad. The old version worked just great.

### 1/5 — Star ledger

*2025-09-30, version 6.1.1*

I absolutely love my on line Star Ledger. I was sooo very hesitant
At first. I no longer have to wait for it to be deleivered. It is much easier to read. I can enlarge the print at any time. I look forward to reading it every morning..

### 1/5 — the paper

*2025-06-14, version 6.1.0*

it’s definitely not the same reading the paper online. I miss the actual newspaper!

### 1/5 — Electronic Star Ledger Experience Not Easy

*2025-02-11, version 6.0.0*

I am very computer literate. I have been ordering online and reading online news for years now. However, reading the current version of the StarLedger is not easy and not the enjoyable experience I had with reading your paper when it was, in actuality, a paper. I don’t know if I will be continuing my subscription once my current one is finished

### 1/5 — app needs work

*2025-02-08, version 6.0.0*

Very angry Letters To Th Editor is no longer being accepted and Editorial staff has been laid off

The purpose of a newspaper is not to stick their head in the sand because letters to the editor are too divisive or controversial. may very well cancel my subscription.

Really disliking not able to view entire page on iPad screen, no option to resize

### 1/5 — No Online Issue ?

*2025-01-09, version 6.0.0*

Why is there no online issue available for 01/09/2025 ?

### 1/5 — Format

*2024-12-31, version 6.0.0*

I like the format where I could just stroll down and pick the stories I wanted to read

### 1/5 — Not a fan

*2024-12-28, version 6.0.0*

I cannot eliminate the picture of the full front page from the article I’m reading. Tried multiple times to move it. Not successful

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Old timer

*2026-01-14, version 8.0.2*

Although print is gone paper hasn’t missed a beat. I was in military in 1960s at flight school in Alabama and got Sunday edition by Wednesday to keep up with facts of Vietnam war.i also enjoyed monmouth park results during summer.great job guys!

### 5/5 — The best newspaper I have ever read

*2025-03-24, version 6.0.0*

My Parents would tell me to get the paper every morning until the star ledger stopped making the print edition of the paper

### 5/5 — Good job

*2025-03-06, version 6.0.0*

The new online paper is much better than I expected and navigating thru sections is fairly easy.

### 5/5 — Sports

*2024-12-28, version 6.0.0*

Need scores published from previous nights games.

### 5/5 — New format

*2024-12-25, version 6.0.0*

I don’t like the new format. No page numbers. Have to scroll through a bunch of legal notices to get to other sections. Liked it better when it read like ordinary newspaper

### 5/5 — Fair, comprehensive journalism. Kinda rare these days

*2024-12-23, version 6.0.0*

Gives you exactly what you should be looking for…THE NEWS…pretty much all of it.

### 5/5 — Improve The App or Go Back To The Old One

*2024-12-21, version 6.0.0*

It is very difficult to download or maneuver the app, especially on an iPad or iPhone, to read and scan the paper page by page. You get 2 pages at a time, the print is very small, and often as you try to advance the paper it resets to page 1 and you have to begin advancing it again. On the old app, you could easily download it and scroll down the pages continuously with no automatic resets occurring. Plus the paper’s size filled the screen completely maximizing its viewing size.

### 5/5 — Extremely satisfied

*2024-12-21, version 6.0.0*

The app released on 12/17/24 is a total revamp of the prior app. Great functionality, dynamic and user friendly. It’s a digital version of e Onondaga. To be former hard copy complete with puzzles and. Games. I mostly access vi a let and phone.

### 5/5 — Ridiculous charges

*2024-05-22, version 5.0.3*

Being billed 40.99 a month. Didn’t realize I’ve been getting ripped off for so long. Shame on me.

Beware of monthly charges.

### 5/5 — Star ledger

*2023-10-17, version 5.0.2*
