However, i get the coffee daily, but only certain days and times am I able to read this paper. There were also letters to the editor that either informed or amused. I’d say it’s more mainstream and functional, and layout is greatly improved with video stories working properly, and stories in easily accessible sections. Local news is still an important focus for the Record newspaper, with national news served up from AP, USA Today, etc. The new editor is doing a good job of modernizing and diversifying the editorial focus, with increased focus on community inputs and guest columns from local sources. Local newspapers are a niche market, and the Record is filling it well, with plenty of local sports news from area schools and triple A teams, local politics, etc. In my opinion, a big improvement across the board for this town. ### 4/5 — Stockton record *2021-04-04, version 6.4.0* Like the 9/11 reports having problems pulling up the obituaries lately overall five stars thank you! ### 2/5 — Inadequate *2017-09-30, version 4.24.210030129* Inadequate- it does not contain all the stories in the paper and it seems that the news stories are not updated regularly. They don't put much new content on and leave old articles for quite a while. I don't mind still seeing old articles, but it often feels like there is really no new content. I have been very disappointed that the obituaries have been deleted from the app. There was a time that I would of given the app 4 or 5 stars, but today I was struggling to give it 2. ### 4/5 — Mostly good *2016-08-23, version 4.19.300020227* Generally, the Record.net app is great. My biggest complaint is that when one clicks on the News icon, all of the 911 reports come up first. I wish they were categorized on a separate icon because (a) it's really a repeat of 911 calls and not news, and (b) it reinforces the view that Stockton is a dangerous place because most of the "stories" are headlined "911 ...." ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Record app *2025-05-01, version 7.11.2* This app will not download the e newspaper. Mostly about local HS football, while recent shootings and drug busts , which represent a real threat to my life when I drive around town,go unreported. It was thick with a great local section of weddings engagements birth announcements obituaries movies and want ads. Sports sections covered all the local schools JV and varsity levels. Then it became “the record” covering the valley and it got smaller and smaller with sections being blended together and eventually omitted. We have stopped subscribing and honestly haven’t missed it. The subscription fees have gone through the roof for not much of a paper. ### 1/5 — Awful app, awful e edition. *2018-02-21, version 4.27.850033553* First the app. I got this for my wife who has been reading the free e edition. With the paid edition every time she opens up the app, she has to put in the user id and the password. On my phone, however , it opens up without having to do that. I called the help line, they were feckless, couldn’t even refer me to the webmaster. I subscribe to 4 other e newspapers and have never had this problem.
