### 2/5 — Bug to fix

*2026-01-02, version 4.2.0*

Random edition deletion - the epaper app randomly deletes all downloaded editions, regardless of thevretention setting, periodically. Real pain when editions downloaded on a fast connection to read on the move.

### 3/5 — Not very good on phone screen

*2025-12-22, version 4.2.0*

The format follows the printed edition and is no way as user friendly as the ipad version.

### 3/5 — Delay

*2025-05-19, version 4.1.1*

I don’t mind the reading the paper vis this app - when it is working without lengthy delays due to buffering.

### 3/5 — Good but text resolution problems

*2025-02-01, version 4.1.1*

I enjoy using the app to get that newspaper feel. My only criticism is that the resolution of the text is at times very poor and blurry, esp when zooming into the text, despite refreshing the format of the page, or deleting and redownloading the edition. Is there anything that can be done to improve this?

### 2/5 — Okay, but 'article mode' is erratic & usually fails to work.

*2024-06-22, version 4.0.5*

Okay, but 'tap anywhere to view in article mode' is erratic & usually fails to work. Is there a knack to the tap??

### 2/5 — Poor text quality

*2024-06-21, version 4.0.5*

Disappointed to see that in the first update in seven months there has been no improvement whatsoever in the screen quality of printed text. Why not go back to having The Times on PressReader, a vastly superior experience?

### 1/5 — Good presentation

*2023-11-06, version 4.0.1*

Good presentation but shame about the content and biased reporting. Please get better columnists.

### 1/5 — Awful!

*2023-11-05, version 4.0.1*

Spent 20 minutes downloading. Went for breakfast, came back to read the Times…. Now have to wait another 20 mins for it to download again!! Why? This used to be a good app…. 1 star is generous.

### 2/5 — Updated improved app?

*2023-10-25, version 4.0.1*

I am disappointed with the recently updated app.
I now frequently need to sign in.
No facility to opt out of updates during the day
Puzzles - crosswords / soduko etc seem to de-populate without warning
I could go on.......

### 1/5 — Hopeless!

*2023-10-23, version 4.0.1*

I’ve been subscribing to the Times and using the classic app since it’s inception. The updated classic app is frankly terrible, hopeless, unergonomic design (and I’m an IT professional) so sadly that’s it for me, subscription now cancelled after fifteen years.

### 1/5 — Does not work offline

*2023-10-20, version 4.0.1*

Tried this app due to the disaster that is the new classic app, guess what - same problem, download an edition fully, go to read it when offline and the download had disappeared so you can’t.

### 2/5 — It’s a far cry from pressreader

*2023-10-09*

Well if you want an e paper rendition of the times this is all that is available now. It’s a shame they don’t support pressreader anymore which is much superior.

My beefs include, slow issue download, it does not remember where you left off, if you change orientation from portrait to landscape you can be flung pages away from where you were, each page is blurry for 2 seconds before it sharpens up and lastly don’t try to minimize the app to do something else. When you come back you will have to start at page one all over again and find where you left off.

**Developer response:** I am sorry to read your review, we are keen to speak to you directly regarding this issue. Please do get in touch with us via a channel that suits you, mentioning app store, so we can resolve this for you at thetimes.co.uk/help

### 2/5 — Classic upgrade downgrade

*2023-10-04, version 4.0.1*

I’ve enjoyed the Times app for several years but the recent upgrade has resulted in frequent requests to input my password and problems downloading to read ‘on the go’ because it automatically tries to download again with no signal availability. Looks like pre-launch testing was lacking. Poor value for the subscription on this basis.

### 2/5 — Should be better

*2023-09-23, version 4.0.1*

Not intuitive to navigate. Trying to read the Saturday edition the L-R scroller has ‘weekend’ numerous times - but where is that section? Why do I need a heading for tv guide day by day - who even uses these pages to find tv shows nowadays?

Equally If I don’t want to read the letters why do I need to scroll through every letter? Loads of pages have very little text on them. Just all feels pretty bodged. Surprising as there has been plenty of time to get things right

### 2/5 — Great

*2023-09-08, version 4.0.1*

I have been a Times classic app reader since 2014. Having discovered the times e-paper has reminded me of how much I missed reading a printed version. Living mainly abroad this is the closest to a printed version I have found. No problems with the font and being able to print, fantastic. It works well ! THANK YOU. :-)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Filled with bugs

*2025-10-21, version 4.2.0*

Useless, signing in with Apple account doesn’t work

### 1/5 — Beware scam?

*2025-09-28, version 4.2.0*

Shocking. Took my money. Won’t let me sign in. No contact option in app. Fraud?

### 1/5 — Comment Section Hell

*2025-09-05, version 4.2.0*

The Times e-paper app has stopped allowing me to access replies to my comments on article threads via the comment notifications. This subsequently leads to excessive searching through lengthy comment threads to find the replies I’ve been notified of and re-join the conversation.

Then, after leaving two or three replies the app prevents me from commenting or liking comments further, by giving the following message: “Sign Up to Post” This, despite being already signed up and having been active on the threads only moments prior.

Very irritating, especially when customer services insist on seeing a screen recording of the issues, even though their email system rejects such files. When you email them screenshots to prove this point they customer services ignore you and the problems persist.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Download

*2025-08-10, version 4.2.0*

Very disappointed that The Times hasn’t improved this app considering how badly rated it’s been for such a long time. It’s riddled with bugs. Currently, it doesn’t download anything.

### 1/5 — Offline mode doesn’t work

*2025-05-02, version 4.1.1*

Takes about an hour to download a newspaper for offline…for the app to not even worn when you’re offline. Useless

### 1/5 — Avoid

*2025-02-25, version 4.1.1*

This is supposed to be the app to read the papers offline. It only seems to work online.

### 1/5 — New app

*2024-10-26, version 4.1.1*

Simply the worst upgrade I’ve ever encountered and, frankly, needless.

### 1/5 — Downloads hardly ever work

*2024-10-06, version 4.1.1*

You can download editions to read off line which is very handy. However, this hardly ever works and you either get a download unavailable message or it just sits there saying downloading edition. Also, some downloads don’t load the text version when you click on the article, but you can zoom in to the as printed text.

### 1/5 — Poor Text Quality - Needs to be improved

*2024-05-06, version 4.0.4*

The app is fine but unfortunately the text quality is very poor and needs to be improved before it can be an enjoyable app.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-04-03, version 4.0.4*

Everytime I try to log in, says login failed

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Like reading the paper

*2025-02-16, version 4.1.1*

Brilliant to have the opportunity to read the content as it’s carefully curated in the paper. May The Times always offer this!

### 5/5 — New reader

*2024-01-23, version 4.0.4*

New user of the app, found it very enjoyable and far better than the digital site.

### 5/5 — No complaints

*2023-11-26, version 4.0.4*

If you want the printed paper this is great. I also like the classic app, only one I’m not interested in is the new live app.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2023-11-18, version 4.0.4*

After all the issues with the Times Classic app I have defaulted to the e paper app and love it. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews.

### 5/5 — A Real Newspaper

*2023-11-17, version 4.0.4*

Cannot understand negative reviews. Great to be able to read the paper as it is printed. Zoom in to read the articles or tap to see clear text. Can always go to Times Live to get up to minute news.

### 5/5 — Takes a bit of getting used to but persevere

*2023-03-08, version 4.0.1*

Just like reading the paper once you’ve mastered it. Definitely my favourite of the various apps. Option to download the whole newspaper so you can read it when there is no internet connection.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2023-02-10, version 3.3.2*

A perfect replica of the physical edition. Superb on a large iPad where you can zoom into each article.

### 5/5 — Superb app

*2022-11-07, version 3.3.2*

This is just what I have been looking for. If you want the experience of reading a physical newspaper, this would be just what you are looking for. It works especially well on my iPad Pro, because of the larger screen size, but because you have the ability to tap on an article an open it in a separate window it works equally well on the smaller iPads.

### 5/5 — If there were issues before they seem fine now

*2022-10-20, version 3.3.2*

Have been using the app since October. I find it excellent and very user friendly. A real game changer for reading the paper on the go

### 5/5 — Brilliant!

*2022-08-08, version 3.3*

Ignore all reviews before 1st August 2022. They relate to the previous very different antiquated app. This new one is very impressive.
