### 3/5 — Comments error

*2026-08-22*

Comments don’t load

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. To help us assist you further, please email care@thetimes.com with your full name, CPN, a description of the issue, your device and app details, if possible, please include a screen recording showing what happens before and after going offline. A customer care adviser will respond within 48 hours.

### 2/5 — Overheating

*2026-07-24, version 12.5.0*

Ram packed with adverts that slow down your phone and cause it to overheat (even though you’ve paid for a subscription). Have now removed it and just read articles through chrome

### 2/5 — Glitchy & freezes

*2026-07-21, version 12.5.0*

The content and layout options are great but this app is so glitchy now and I’ve used to for years! I cannot scroll through an article on my iPhone without it freezing, my phone heating up & then randomly redirecting to adverts I hadn’t clicked on. I’m close to cancelling my subscription.

### 1/5 — Was OK this morning but not this evening

*2026-07-19, version 9.4.0*

The Times wants me to update using an older version but the process takes me round in circles. What do I do next?

### 1/5 — Buggy app

*2026-07-18, version 12.5.0*

I can see that I am not the only one who has these issues. I don’t understand why the web developers don’t fix them (I) when writing comments the predictive text adds extra letters and suffixes. I’ve seen dozens of complaints online yet no fix. This started a couple of months ago when there was a big ToL ‘upgrade’ (ii) the app keeps on randomly opening an advertising browser called static.reads.tv. This happens every few minutes. This also started around the same time. App Developers - please fix these issues. They are ruining the experience.

### 1/5 — Adverts

*2026-07-18, version 12.5.0*

Fix the bloody redirects to adverts.

### 1/5 — Forced redirection to ads is still happening.

*2026-07-18, version 12.5.0*

static.reads.tv is the redirection despite updating and deleting the app. Long time Subscriber but very disappointed by this.

### 3/5 — Freeze, overheat, crash

*2026-07-17, version 12.5.0*

Recent updates seem to have caused issues. Navigation between pages is unreliable (you swipe to the next and end up where you started), my iPad runs hot, and interactive features like quizzes frequently cause a crash.

### 1/5 — Cheap nasty app

*2026-07-14, version 12.5.0*

Hopeless app I expect way better than this from the Times

### 1/5 — Worst app on my phone

*2026-07-13, version 12.5.0*

Something has changed recently, with major consequences. The performance of the app is horrible: my phone overheats, scrolling through articles lags constantly, media is basically not useable. There’s also a new bug which keeps redirecting to browser ads for no reason. It is a really, really poor product considering the price of a digital subscription.

### 1/5 — Crashes constantly - barely usable

*2026-07-13, version 12.5.0*

Every day there are glitches which are annoying and spoil the experience. I have the latest iPad and a good connection.

The (overlong for the technology?) lists of tv programmes, Netflix programmes etc., have today again crashed the app and also crashed the iPad.

I logged in using the website and was able to scroll through the lists easily.

Advice from The Times was carefully followed by me but the glitch continues after every update.

Poor service indeed.

Update 14th November. The Netflix list, for instance, is still crashing my iPad. Cut and paste reply from Customer Services is of no help. Your previous response on this medium saying “we are pleased you are enjoying etc.” is just rude and provocative.

Update 23rd November. You recommend contacting Customer Care but they have not responded to, or acknowledged, my email sent 21st, 22nd and 23rd November.

Update 26th November. Well, I did receive an ostensibly helpful response. As requested, I took screen films of the app sticking and also the iPad crashing. It’s not easy to film an iPad crashing. I duly forwarded these to customer care and they were acknowledged. That was two weeks ago but, in view of the app problems, I guess some enthusiastic technician is beavering away - possibly. New app update available today but the overlong TV listing reviews are still crashing my iPad…

Update 31st December 2024.No problem with the customer service staff themselves but the annoying glitches in this app continue and reappear. I have accepted, as I guess many have, that the clunky scrolling on long tv related articles is “normal behaviour” and you have to wait for video clips to load - wait for ages and crash the app sometimes.

Today, when I click on comments after an article, I quite often get the comments for a different article. Then, when you are reading a comment and click on the option to read more, you are taken back to the beginning. Hopeless tech. I guess that I too will need to change to a different paper but which one?

Update: 21st February. For goodness sake, now the comments are no longer accessible and, when they are, you need to go back and forth to the article to tease them out of this ongoing tech. field of multiple glitches. Yes, I’ve done all the things you suggest - many times - please just pass on to the developers.

28th November 2025. The third alteration to the crossword grid (using concise) in the last few days has today reinstated a problem. On my iPad, I cannot do the crossword, using the iPad in landscape, without again having to scroll up and down to see the grid. How difficult can it be to check the settings and get this right?

Also, my iPad still crashes when scrolling through the overloaded television sections. I took the trouble to send you screen grabs and recordings of this problem last year, as requested. I shall not be doing so again.

1 May 2026 update. Yet STILL, every day, this app is clunky and erratic when scrolling. Almost every day the app crashes and quite often it crashes the iPad.

I have been updating comments for a long time - see above. The app is almost unusable; it still constantly crashes and often crashes my iPad. Also the intrusive ads open in my browser without my clicking on them.

### 1/5 — App keeps redirecting to ads

*2026-07-11, version 12.5.0*

This app is a shadow of its former self (daily edition) Articles are reused for days but more annoyingly the app keeps redirecting me to advertising on its own in a separate browser. Please update !

### 1/5 — Crashing constantly

*2026-07-08, version 12.5.0*

In app video content causing constant crashes. Virtually unusable.

### 2/5 — Terrible software as usual for a good paper

*2026-07-07, version 12.5.0*

I’m goingg to write a review using the comments sectiontion of the Times newspaper per and see how many annoyingg additions it can add to the text as I am fed up withh this terrible lie softwaree that adds extra words and text often repeatedlyly.
Anyone else’s have this problem Len?

### 2/5 — Times Live no longer usable

*2026-07-07, version 12.5.0*

I had a problem with the Times Live App on my iPad as it started to crash when changing pages and was very unstable. I deleted and reinstalled the App but now the problem is that when clicking on an article it often goes to ‘share this article’ and freezes. Then I have to exit the App and open again but the same thing keeps happening. I have deleted and reinstalled the App several times, to no avail.

My iPad is 8th generation running OS version 26.5. The Times app is version 12.5.0.

### 1/5 — Glitch

*2026-07-05, version 12.5.0*

I’m being driven to distraction by the constant redirection to my browser of adverts. I can barely read any article without being constantly forwarded to unwanted advertisements. Come on Times. Sort it out

### 1/5 — Ads opening themselves

*2026-07-03, version 12.5.0*

The recent update seems to have given the (awful) ads free reign to seemingly open themselves ! Makes trying to actually read the articles almost impossible as every few seconds an ad opens in the browser. I am not clicking on them.

### 3/5 — Lacks a download feature!

*2026-07-03, version 12.5.0*

I was beginning to enjoy the app and settle down to be a regular subscriber, but on a recent holiday in France discovered that if you are offline you can not read the main paper. Shame really, but it was a feature I required.

### 1/5 — App crash

*2026-07-03, version 12.5.0*

App keeps crashing. Have deleted and reinstalled but issue remains. Will wait for update - hopefully that resolve things.

### 3/5 — Good in theory

*2026-07-03, version 12.5.0*

At first sight the UX seems well designed, but pretty much every article is cut short. It just stops in the middle of a sentence, moves on to an ad, then recommends other articles. I have checked on both my phone and iPad and the article cuts in precisely the same place.
Yes, they are both up to date in iOS and Times software.
This issue has been present for weeks.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-08-20*

I should’ve read the reviews before subscribing. No access to any articles. No help at all from The Times “support” or Apple. If you enjoy spending money on apps that are functionally useless, I cannot recommend this one highly enough.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. To help us assist you further, please email care@thetimes.com with your full name, CPN, a description of the issue, your device and app details, if possible, please include a screen recording showing what happens before and after going offline. ### 1/5 — Buggy

*2026-08-15*

Persistently unable to login despite several password resets

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. To help us assist you further, please email care@thetimes.com with your full name, CPN, a description of the issue, your device and app details, if possible please include a screen recording showing what happens before and after going offline. ### 1/5 — Scam

*2026-08-14*

Impossible to unsubscribe without getting through customer service that purposedly takes hours of irrelevant questions prior to unsubscribing you

**Developer response:** Thank you for getting in touch and sharing your frustration regarding cancellation. We understand that having to call to cancel can feel inconvenient. At present, we ask customers to contact us by phone so we can ensure cancellations are handled promptly and correctly, and that any questions are dealt with straight away. We do appreciate your feedback, and it has been shared with the relevant teams, as expanding self‑service options within the app is something we know our customers value.

### 1/5 — Won’t let you login

*2026-07-25, version 12.5.0*

The recent update stopped you from being able to like comments. The latest logs you out the moment you login

### 1/5 — Freezing, log-in issues

*2026-07-25, version 12.5.0*

Always freezing and crashing between pages, but now I can’t log in, when I try to, the log in box comes up again and again. Please sort it!

### 1/5 — Comments won't load at all

*2026-07-25, version 12.5.0*

Utter rubbish. For several days, none of the comments are loading. Shows an error

### 1/5 — Cancellation Scam

*2026-07-24, version 12.5.0*

Subscribing is effortless but, you have to call in to cancel. Creating this friction is not user friendly and aimed to squeeze the most out of subscription fees in my opinion. Horrific.

### 1/5 — Avoid

*2026-07-24, version 12.5.0*

They make it as difficult as possible to cancel. Avoid avoid avoid

### 1/5 — Mobile site

*2026-07-24, version 12.5.0*

Every news article on the mobile app says “View online - This article will display on the web”

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2026-07-21, version 12.5.0*

Using the iphone app. Constantly opens my browser to take me to advertising pages, despite me not tapping on an ad. Buggy and slow, frequently crashing or freezing. When commenting, there’s some sort of predictive text that automatically tries to finish my words for me (not apple’s predictive text). Awful experience. Tech team need to sort this out or they will lose subscribers in droves.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Absolutely love the new audio function!

*2026-06-21, version 12.3.0*

The option to have the Times’s great content read out in a nice voice so I can get other things done while listening is a game changer - vv happy!

### 5/5 — Like the new look

*2026-04-24, version 12.0.2*

Great new aesthetics with new version. One request - can we have pictures download for offline reading as well as the text?

### 5/5 — Everything ok

*2026-02-21*

The Times App is reliable and user friendly. Best App for reading news on a smartphone.

Your support means a lot to us, and we will keep working to make your reading experience even better.

### 5/5 — Advert and Consent overload

*2026-01-30, version 11.19.1*

Updated review

Updated app to new version. Still experienced same issues. Deleted app and all data, then re-downloaded, signed-in and started again. All working well again now. Phew. 5* once more.

Recently the consent to store cookies pops up excessively no matter if you accept or decline. There’s nearly more of these now than articles! Sometimes several in one short article. Fed up with scrolling past these to continue reading. Subscription nearly up so will look elsewhere if this continues. Pity as the journalism is good but the behaviour of the app lets the whole experience down.

### 5/5 — One of the best news apps,

*2025-10-03, version 11.13.0*

Best UK News App in terms of article content and app features

Please bring the ‘Day’ view back. I would also like to see a way to view more than 150 on my most recently saved articles, and also be able to export them.

### 5/5 — Allow selection of words

*2025-08-28, version 11.10.0*

Great app, but please allow selection of words (so one can look them up in the dictionary)

### 5/5 — Good App

*2025-08-11, version 11.9.0*

I just struggle to find the time to read it!

### 5/5 — Change is good!

*2022-01-22*

I think the app is extremely good and far superior to any of the others I have tried eg Telegraph, New York Times, Guardian etc. It works seamlessly on my iPad pro and in my view the user experience has been thought through and well curated - with easy access via the nav at the top of the screen to the different sections like News, Comment, Times2 etc.

I love being able to access the readers comments underneath articles which is like dipping into a far more superior and educated version of Twitter. My only and tiny gripe is that I can now read my favourite column of the week - Saturday’s Janice Turner piece - on Friday evening. Of course I could wait, but that level of self discipline is hard for me! I don’t do the puzzles - so I can’t comment on how well that section works.

Well done developer team. I can see you get a lot of stick on here - and I sympathise with how tech evolution can mess with people’s equilibrium - but I love the app!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2019-04-28*

It does what it says on the “packet” namely full editions of The Times newspaper from midnight updated regularly during the day.

It’s easy to use and I particularly like and use the “Previous six days” section where it is easy to revisit the paper from the previous week.

Apart from the news, other likes include the, Sport, Puzzles, Times2 and Comments sections - there is a very useful facility for receiving email alerts (with link) to as many (or few) individual sections as you wish.

A very useful facility on my iPhone is when replying to someone else’s reply (to one of my comments) it takes me back to the exact place. However my iPad does not seem to do this.

I’ve only given four stars because of a couple of ways it could be improved.

Firstly when typing comments it occasionally “jumps” or refreshes and the comments already typed may be lost which is very frustrating, especially having typed a lot of text.

Secondly there appears to be no way to search for previously read pieces. Perhaps a list of headlines for each day’s edition(s) could be used to facilitate a search under “Previous six days”?

Finally the Codeword puzzle, Chess and Bridge sections only appear sporadically and I struggle to find the quiz again, but that may be my ineptitude.

Otherwise the app, and newspaper, is excellent and I’d recommend it to anyone.

### 5/5 — Best app for English Learning, I think

*2012-12-29*

It is well worth you paying for reading their news, awesome!!
