### 3/5 — Not impressed

*2026-02-17, version 3.5.5*

Very frustrating that the music does not appear on one page. Not convenient for pianists.

### 3/5 — Customer service non-existant

*2025-04-02, version 3.5.5*

I purchased the keyboard edition in 2021. It recently reverted to the free edition. I contacted customer support through the app a week ago, and have yet to hear anything. I tried re-installing, updating, restoring purchases, but the version I paid for is no longer available to me.
Update: they did finally respond. Somehow, the wrong edition was selected in settings. Since I hadn’t opened the app in a while, I suspect this was reset in an update. The fact that it took a week and three attempts on my part (two through the app, and a bad review in the app store) to get a response was disappointing, especially for such an easy (but elusive) fix.

### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2024-11-23, version 3.5.5*

The app is certainly usable for certain things but I wish I had spent the money on a paper hymnal instead. It's inexcusable to be missing hymns and charge the same amount as a new printed hymnal (and quite a bit more than a used one, as the UMH has been in print for decades now) - and it's particularly inexcusable to not make this clear up front before purchasing. This means the app is not usable as a replacement for a print hymnal.

The other frustrating thing is that the audio playback button fades out playback on the last few measures, to the point that the last few notes cannot be heard. I cannot imagine who would find this feature useful.

I usually find myself better served by a web search or YouTube, especially for the public domain hymns. Sure, that doesn't give me every hymn in order and with the same arrangement and text - but neither does this app.

### 2/5 — setting not configurable

*2024-11-03, version 3.5.5*

setting options are greyed out and you can't change font size, stanzas, etc.

### 2/5 — Do not like the new page layout

*2022-05-28, version 3.0.0*

I loved this app before you changed to flip page instead of scroll down to complete the hymn. Why did you do that? I choose a hymn each morning to put in my journal. It is much easier to scroll down when copying and singing along with my music I have on my iPad. Please change it back. I pay for this. Please know I put all information in my journal as well as the source.

### 2/5 — Some features are now missing. And please give us the index!

*2020-10-17, version 2.0.6*

Every time I open the app, it defaults to displaying the cover page with a search box. I used to be able to easily click to my playlist and now I have to perform a fake search to display anything besides the cover to get to it. (And the recent big update deleted my carefully curated playlist without warning!). Also, I can no longer tap on the left or right side of a displayed hymn to "page" through the hymnal but thankfully found out that you can swipe left or right. I can't tell if the pages at the back have been included which was my only complaint before - I dont want to search for it- I want to peruse and see the actual text and items included by the hymnal creator in their index. Lastly, I use a bluetooth page turner and when I have it connected, I am unable to type. So now that you have to type in the hymn number to navigate, instead of clicking numbered buttons on the screen, I have to disable my bluetooth, search, re-enable my bluetooth, make sure the page turner re-connected, and then I can play the next hymn.

### 4/5 — Could be improved

*2020-01-05, version 1.5.2*

I play the BBb tuba, and many of the tuba parts are uncomfortably high for this instrument. It would be wonderful if you could add the ability to transpose down an octave, or display two octaves simultaneously (the best solution).

### 1/5 — Could be better

*2018-12-05, version 1.5.1*

I enjoy the app for the hymns but it would really help to have the readings also. The service of word and table especially. When we pay for the pew edition of the hymn book it should be included. Most pew edition hymn books at the church has the readings why can’t this app. It doesn’t even have all the hymns in it #370 victory in Jesus isn’t even in here.

### 3/5 — Needs an Index!

*2018-08-09, version 1.5.1*

Does what it’s supposed to do. Love saving the hymns as a set list so I’m not fumbling around in my hymnal while leading worship. Seriously missing though is the all important index at the back of the UMH Hymnal. Pastors in charge of planning worship rely on that tool and having a hyperlinked one would be awesome. The search bar doesn’t compensate because the topic search is weak. Nothing comes up when I search for “Prevenient Grace”...

### 3/5 — Great Resource for Pastors

*2018-03-04, version 1.5.1*

I have really enjoyed using this app as a pastor. I load my bulletin and sermon notes on the iPad and now can use the iPad as my hymnal. I do much better when I have all these things in one place.

**Unfortunately, I’ve had an issue where there is a 20-30 delay when I open the app before it is responsive to anything at all. This is not really long except in the context of leading worship. I’m sure this will be worked out soon in the next update.

### 4/5 — Acceptable value, purchases can be restored on a new device.

*2018-01-13, version 1.5.1*

When I upgraded to a new iPad from backup, I lost the hymnals I bought, and no one could tell me how to reload them, or buy them again. Copywrite issues were blamed. The site that sells the app did not return emails. Restore Purchases did not work.

As it turns out, the problem has an easy solution. Delete the application from the iPad. Reload it from the cloud. Purchase the hymnals again and the App Store will recognize your previous purchase and download it for free, OR use RESTORE PURCHASES, which will now work.

This information should be readily available.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Customer service non-existant

*2025-03-25*

I purchased the keyboard edition in 2021. It recently reverted to the free edition. I contacted customer support through the app a week ago, and have yet to hear anything. I tried re-installing, updating, restoring purchases, but the version I paid for is no longer available to me.

### 1/5 — Copyrights confusion

*2022-02-21*

In addition to what another reviewer has written, I’m shocked to find copyright blocks on songs from the 13th and 18th C. Charles Wesley is copyrighted? In which world.
The user interface is also pretty useless. Am deleting the app.

### 1/5 — Purchases not coming through

*2021-11-24, version 2.8.3*

This app was good. The latest update is not allowing me to access my purchases. Purchased the C cleft instruments, should be flute access? I wish to get this to save time instead of physically rewriting music for advent. Please get it together

### 1/5 — Do NOT purchase!!!

*2020-11-28, version 2.2.0*

I purchased the full version of this app, for $25, and my music never showed up. I contacted Apple and they said there was nothing they could do and that this was an app developer issue. I’ve tried for weeks to get ahold of the app developer and haven’t been able to, and now I’m out $25!!!!!

### 1/5 — Needs major overhaul!!!

*2020-10-29, version 2.1.0*

I cannot count the number of times I was in the middle of a service and this app would freeze, crash, or tell me I needed to redownload my purchased hymnals, causing my to run for a physical hymnal.

### 1/5 — The app just moved backwards

*2020-10-26, version 2.0.6*

Before the update you could search by number or title from any place in the app. Now you have to always go back to the Home Screen to search. The app is now clunkier than before.

### 1/5 — Functionality taken away?????????

*2020-10-18, version 2.0.6*

Why would you ever take features away? You used to be able to switch hymns by entering the number from a numeric pad display at the top of the screen. Now it goes to a completely blank page????? Also, the set list used to show up on top of the current hymn, not it goes to a separate page as well? Why would you take away features that worked????? SO frustrating.

### 1/5 — Very disappointing

*2020-07-08, version 1.5.2*

The app lacks a great deal of content and cannot be made available to be used by an ensemble.

### 1/5 — Much content has been removed

*2020-01-07, version 1.5.2*

With recent updates, much content and sample music has been removed. I paid for the pew edition several years ago, and had been very pleased. Now it has become worthless- I can’t recommend it to anyone. You may as well get used to carrying a hymnal with your iPad.

### 1/5 — Flex score is a joke

*2018-12-21, version 1.5.1*

I thought I had purchased the flex score version but luckily it appears to have not gone through. The vast majority of hymns say “no flex score exists because of copyright “ or “no lead sheet exists”. You should be ashamed charging $99 for something which doesn’t provide the product you offer.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great across Apple devices!

*2025-08-28, version 3.5.5*

I really appreciate using this app across my Mac, iPad, and iPhone—you never know when you’re going to need the hymnal! I especially like the ability to search, which is much quicker electronically, particularly for things like meter, with results showing you quickly hymn titles in addition to number. Using the app designed for iPad on a Mac has a few small quirks, but overall it’s great!

### 5/5 — Tablet users

*2024-12-19, version 3.5.5*

Great app for those who use tablet for church music!

### 5/5 — Outstanding App!

*2024-11-07, version 3.5.5*

I purchased the pew version, and this app is really outstanding…great value, excellent functionality & reliability, and responsive support. The only suggestion I can think of is to add the official hymnal supplements (“The Faith We Sing” and “Worship & Song”).

### 5/5 — The Hymnal will not open

*2022-12-09, version 3.4.1*

I have been using this Hymnal for several years with no problem. Today it will not open?? Not sure what is the problem. Does anyone else have this issue? This is an update about my issue. The problem was my iPad not the app. I rebooted the iPad, problem solved. This is a good app.

Update 12/7/2022. The app is fine, it was my iPad that was the problem, need to reboot the iPad.

### 5/5 — Outstanding App!

*2022-02-10, version 2.8.3*

This app (I purchased the pew version) is really outstanding…great value, excellent functionality & reliability, and responsive support. Even though all of my concerns have been resolved (thank you!), I’m still looking forward to your next update.

**Developer response:** Our developer said:

"Indexes are not browsable, however search understands author, tune, meter, scripture, and subject queries (as well as normal title/text searches). As of 2.1.0, the table of contents is available from the side menu; this ToC supports tap to jump directly to the hymn.
"

Does that help at all?

We have an update coming later this week that we think will address some issues. We'll be interested to know what you think. Thx.

### 5/5 — Last update was terrible

*2020-11-15, version 2.2.0*

I use a STOMP WiFi page turner that has always worked fine with this hymnal. After the last update, though, I can now only page turn side to side from the first to the second page, and must manually SCROLL down to get back for the next verse, even though my STOMP is set on side to side page turn. This was all working perfectly before the update, which was a giant step backward.

### 5/5 — Wonderful resource

*2019-11-15, version 1.5.2*

It’s almost perfect. Only a few pages can’t be displayed due to copyright restrictions.

The one thing that is missing is the ability to make notes on the pages with an Apple Pencil. Maybe in a future update I hope.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2016-12-03, version 1.5*

Can't wait for the rest of the hymns to be added!

### 4/5 — Great until version 3.5

*2023-11-01, version 3.5.2*

I love having this hymnal on my iPad for playing at church, nut ever since version 3.5 my AirTurn Duo BT106 won’t turn the pages. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something I need to do to fix it? It is really difficult to turn the page manually, especially if it is a hymn that goes back and forth between 2 pages.

### 4/5 — Music and lyrics quickly

*2020-05-24, version 1.5.2*

Two Sundays with sheet music and lyrics with the free version. A relief!
