## What is The Walk?

Created with the NHS and the UK's Department of Health, The Walk helps you walk more, every single day. When you’re playing The Walk, every step counts.

A bomb explodes in Inverness station, and you’re given a package that could save the world. To stay alive, you’ll need to walk the length of the UK. The Walk is more than just a great pedometer/step counter — it's a way to turn walking into a journey, a challenge, and a rip-roaring adventure.

Made by Six to Start and Naomi Alderman, creators of the world’s most popular running game with over 5 million players, Zombies, Run!

ENGADGET - “Simple, fun, effective.”
JOYSTIQ - "Spices up your step-tracking with some danger and intrigue.”
BBC NEWS - “Encourages users to walk 10,000 steps-a-day to help improve their health”
LIFEHACKER - “You're motivated to actually get up and move around so you can progress further into the story, and it works really well.”

AWESOME ACTIVITY TRACKER
Just put your phone in your pocket or purse and we’ll track every walk and run you take — and map it, too!

CAPTIVATING STORY
You’ll walk the length of the UK while evading capture by the police and enemy agents. Can you work out who set off that bomb in the first place and what their plan is? Get ready for an epic adventure across 65 episodes, 800 minutes of audio, and hundreds of miles.

MOTIVATING GAMEPLAY
Get rewarded for walking more by collecting clues, scanning for information, and unlocking achievements.

ADAPTIVE
The Walk adjusts its difficulty based on individual fitness levels. Everyone’s different, and we make sure we give you the right level of challenge!

Comes with the first five episodes and challenges for free, with the remaining 60 unlockable by subscribing to the Abel Runner's Club.

Subscriptions are $5.99 USD/month or $34.99 USD/year. Subscriptions will be charged to your iTunes account after your confirmation of purchase.

Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. You can go to your iTunes Account Settings to manage your subscription and turn off auto-renew. Cancellation of the current active subscription period is not allowed.

- Requires iOS 10.3
- This app integrates with the Health app via Healthkit to read and track your steps and movement data to register your progress in the game
- Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. The Walk uses your phone’s accelerometer to measure your movement, and primarily uses wifi and cell towers to track location. The Walk is designed to use GPS sparingly and should have little to no impact on your battery.

### 5/5 — BoB’s Morning Walks

*2026-07-23, version 2.6.5*

Just retired and found the joys of walking in the morning this app just add a bit of fun to it. I’ve also doing the 5K Couch to 5K. The walk is good for the off days. Thoroughly enjoying it.

### 2/5 — Can’t pause

*2026-01-19*

I love the concept of this, but I hate that you apparently can’t pause it or at least it’s not obvious how. you have to finish each walk in one piece which isn’t fun and makes me not want to use the app.

### 4/5 — Wish they had more

*2025-11-27, version 2.6.5*

I would LOVE more stories in this format. I’m a fan of ZRX, but this is a lot more in line with what I need — motivation to move more throughout the day.
That being said, I really wish that it synched with fitness trackers.

### 5/5 — Makes me want to walk more

*2025-11-06*

The storyline and the voice actors are really good. It makes me want to walk more. Thank you for creating this app.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t keep progress

*2025-09-30, version 2.6.5*

This used to be a fun app that encouraged moving, which would open new chapters in the story. I kept using it even after the entire game became available as a podcast - where you could listen to all the episodes without effort.

But in the past year the app has stopped keeping or remembering one’s progress, so even if you’ve finished an entire episode and the app states as much, it won’t ‘remember’ your progress when you come back.
You’ll have to start all over again.

Talk about a mean ‘gotcha’!

I’ll be deleting The Walk and looking elsewhere for an app that doesn’t forget my progress.

### 2/5 — $90???

*2025-08-21, version 2.6.5*

I LOVE the app. I love the stories. It has been the main thing motivating me to go out walking to the point that I decided to pay money to keep going. I did not realize that the $7 per month only unlocks the first 10 episodes. After that you have to pay NINETY DOLLARS a year to unlock more. I feel totally ripped off. If I knew I was only unlocking a few episodes I would not have paid even $6. I can’t fathom paying almost $100 every year for access. This is an amazing app and I wish it had some affordable competitors. As of now, I guess I have to leave disappointed…

### 2/5 — Trying to con Australians

*2025-08-18, version 2.6.5*

The story starts out great, but once you get to episode five, they ask you to pay for the subscription. It says that the subscription cost $34.99 in the US for a year. The equivalent of that in Australia would be currently $53.70. So, why are they trying to charge Australians $80 for the subscription?

### 3/5 — Good Game just 1 suggestion

*2025-06-03, version 2.6.5*

I really like this app and I’ve been using Zombies run for about 5 years now as well, but I wish in The Walk I could play music from a different app as well and when i hit a checkpoint in game, it would stop my music so I can listen to the checkpoint audio without having to manually touch an episode. This way I could listen to music while on my walk as well. Overall good app.

### 1/5 — The 'story' isn't worth the bugs.

*2025-03-23, version 2.6.5*

I wanted to like this app. It sounded like a fun way to entertain myself and gamify my walks. But the choices that the developer made about the implementation ruined the experience.

First, I don't for the life of me know why it didn't just use Apple's step counter to figure out time walked like every other walking app does. Why did it need me to set if so that it ALWAYS knew my location? And when I wouldn't give it those permissions, it would only sometimes count time walking and then only when the app was open. Switch to another app with it running in the background? Good luck with that. Phone locks the way it's designed to do when not actively in use? Good luck with that.

And that brings me to the challenge mode. The app randomly skipping time walked really makes a difference when it wants you to walk 90 minutes in 24 hours. Because 90 minutes turns out to be a lot closer to two and a half hours. But I walk a lot, so with just a little extra effort, I was on track to do it... until the app crashed when I had like 10 minutes to go and lost ALL MY PROGRESS.

If the story had been even remotely good, it might have made it worth putting up with the terrible app, but it's a mess of cliches and bad stereotypes mixed with a predictable story and cardboard cutout characters. I'd believe that a middle school student or a committee of clueless executives wrote this. Not a novelist.

I almost never leave reviews for apps but this one has been such an annoyance and a letdown.
