### 2/5 — Can’t pause

*2026-01-19*

I love the concept of this, but I hate that you apparently can’t pause it or at least it’s not obvious how. you have to finish each walk in one piece which isn’t fun and makes me not want to use the app.

### 4/5 — Wish they had more

*2025-11-27, version 2.6.5*

I would LOVE more stories in this format. I’m a fan of ZRX, but this is a lot more in line with what I need — motivation to move more throughout the day.
That being said, I really wish that it synched with fitness trackers.

### 2/5 — $90???

*2025-08-21, version 2.6.5*

I LOVE the app. I love the stories. It has been the main thing motivating me to go out walking to the point that I decided to pay money to keep going. I did not realize that the $7 per month only unlocks the first 10 episodes. After that you have to pay NINETY DOLLARS a year to unlock more. I feel totally ripped off. If I knew I was only unlocking a few episodes I would not have paid even $6. I can’t fathom paying almost $100 every year for access. This is an amazing app and I wish it had some affordable competitors. As of now, I guess I have to leave disappointed…

### 2/5 — Trying to con Australians

*2025-08-18, version 2.6.5*

The story starts out great, but once you get to episode five, they ask you to pay for the subscription. It says that the subscription cost $34.99 in the US for a year. The equivalent of that in Australia would be currently $53.70. So, why are they trying to charge Australians $80 for the subscription?

### 3/5 — Good Game just 1 suggestion

*2025-06-03*

I really like this app and I’ve been using Zombies run for about 5 years now as well, but I wish in The Walk I could play music from a different app as well and when i hit a checkpoint in game, it would stop my music so I can listen to the checkpoint audio without having to manually touch an episode. This way I could listen to music while on my walk as well. Overall good app.

### 3/5 — I like the premise

*2025-03-07*

I like the premise of this, making getting out for a walk more enjoyable but for 2 days in a row now I’ve started up the app and my current episodes (the sentry challenge) progress has restarted despite not being past the 24 hours.

### 3/5 — Challenges reset before done

*2024-03-18*

I like this app for the main episodes but every time I try to do a challenge I get partway through and then the app resets my progress and I have to start over. This is extremely disheartening. For example, today I got more than an hour through a 92-minute challenge when it reset. The only way I’ve completed any challenges is by keeping my phone unlocked with the app open for the entirety of a challenge, which is ridiculous when it’s over an hour and a half long. Considering that I’m paying for this app, I’m very bummed.

### 3/5 — Good idea, bad app

*2023-12-08, version 2.6.3*

Great idea and fun but for the 3rd time I’ve been trying to complete the third episode and it just resets when you’re about 80% done.

### 3/5 — Not working

*2023-10-11, version 2.6.3*

I’ve been at the exact same place for the last three days. Probably going to delete it since it no longer works. Sad :/

### 4/5 — Music in app

*2023-09-18, version 2.6.3*

Great idea but such a shame it does not work like the Zombie run which is part of the package I purchased. I have to stop and look at the screen to listen to the commentary. Where as the Zombie run automatically plays as you go along. This is a great motivational app to keep going to see what happens next in the story.

Wondering if when you do upgrades you could code it like Zombie Run with the automatic commentary overriding my music?

### 3/5 — Good, but could be better…

*2023-08-23*

I love the story line, but being a dog mom with two large dogs it’s difficult having to stop to play the unlocked clips. I’d love to have a hands free option that plays the clip as it unlocks. I’d also love to be able to play my music in between clips like I do with ZR5K and Zombies, Run!

### 4/5 — Wish I could save progress

*2023-06-07, version 2.6.3*

That is my only critique - I would love to save my progress, since i’ve had to cut walks short on occasion and waste all my progress 😓

### 2/5 — Like it but UI is garbage

*2023-05-15, version 2.6.3*

I liked the story and acting so i paid for it and don’t regret. However, the UI is pretty inconvenient.
You can’t save in progress manually (but it would stay in the middle without it), the episode goes back to the episode 1 when you finishes playing a episode so you should go swipe further manually to start next episode,
and the biggest issue is the challenges would be reset if you use other apps like music or phone call while you doing the challenges which take up to 90 mins.
I’ve sent an email about this issue because I can’t literally play, but no reply.

### 3/5 — Keeps losing progress

*2023-04-29, version 2.6.3*

Seems like it would be good if it didn’t keep losing progress.

### 1/5 — No Text :(

*2023-03-14, version 2.6.3*

Deaf, very disappointed to see sound only and no text.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t keep progress

*2025-09-30, version 2.6.5*

This used to be a fun app that encouraged moving, which would open new chapters in the story. I kept using it even after the entire game became available as a podcast - where you could listen to all the episodes without effort.

But in the past year the app has stopped keeping or remembering one’s progress, so even if you’ve finished an entire episode and the app states as much, it won’t ‘remember’ your progress when you come back.
You’ll have to start all over again.

Talk about a mean ‘gotcha’!

I’ll be deleting The Walk and looking elsewhere for an app that doesn’t forget my progress.

### 1/5 — The 'story' isn't worth the bugs.

*2025-03-23*

I wanted to like this app. It sounded like a fun way to entertain myself and gamify my walks. But the choices that the developer made about the implementation ruined the experience.

First, I don't for the life of me know why it didn't just use Apple's step counter to figure out time walked like every other walking app does. Why did it need me to set if so that it ALWAYS knew my location? And when I wouldn't give it those permissions, it would only sometimes count time walking and then only when the app was open. Switch to another app with it running in the background? Good luck with that. Phone locks the way it's designed to do when not actively in use? Good luck with that.

And that brings me to the challenge mode. The app randomly skipping time walked really makes a difference when it wants you to walk 90 minutes in 24 hours. Because 90 minutes turns out to be a lot closer to two and a half hours. But I walk a lot, so with just a little extra effort, I was on track to do it... until the app crashed when I had like 10 minutes to go and lost ALL MY PROGRESS.

If the story had been even remotely good, it might have made it worth putting up with the terrible app, but it's a mess of cliches and bad stereotypes mixed with a predictable story and cardboard cutout characters. I'd believe that a middle school student or a committee of clueless executives wrote this. Not a novelist.

I almost never leave reviews for apps but this one has been such an annoyance and a letdown.

### 1/5 — Poor effort.

*2024-12-12, version 2.6.5*

Doesn’t have any Apple Watch support so have to physically hold the phone in hand whilst walking.

Having to look at the screen every few mins to click the next story is lame.

Useless app

### 1/5 — Nope

*2024-07-31*

Poor programming cancelled my progress on the third stage. No thanks.

### 1/5 — No hands free?!?

*2024-06-05*

This game demands that you stare at your phone the entire time you are playing. If you don’t, you will miss items and the audio won’t play. Great idea, terrible execution.

### 1/5 — Bad interface and dishonest

*2024-04-16, version 2.6.4*

This app has a bad interface, it’s annoying to get the episodes to play all together without stopping every minute or two.

Plus it is advertised as free but then there’s a paywall a few episodes in. Sad I wasted time with it.

### 1/5 — Frustrating pricing option

*2024-02-19, version 2.6.3*

I really enjoyed the first few free chapters. I was happy to purchase further until I realised this was subscription only. Not interested in the complete bundle with the Zombie options. Just want the walk. Disappointing as not worth it as a subscription.

### 1/5 — It could be fixed so easily

*2023-08-10*

It would take a half of day of programming to make this app an enjoyable experience but sadly it’s just teadious. For something that’s meant to be less hands on than zombies run and more of a step counter they missed the mark with how they operate collectibles and achievements. Also I have a problem with the side missions. I draw a path and make an effort to be more active for 24 hours only to have the program reset and not track any of my progress. Zombies Run works great but it’s a subscription service with free bits. This that I paid for hasn’t served me well in the five years I’ve been using it. I just wish I could use this purchase as a legacy app for the zombies run subscription. Guess I’ll just keep slogging away at the free missions there and redownload another step counter from a certain game company with little alien seeds.

### 1/5 — Its ok

*2023-04-27, version 2.6.3*

I found this though the Zombie Run app. I was expecting it to be more like the zombie run app with clips to listen to while listening to your own music, seeing as it was made by the same people. Im exercising and focusing on what im doing, i don't want to pull out my phone ever few min to listen to a clip. The zombie run app helps me get moving and looking forward to the next clip. This app…. No motivation there. Sorry.

### 1/5 — nice story but unplayable

*2023-03-22*

it seems pretty fun but honestly it just does not work. i start an episode and check the game 5 min later, the episode has not been started. :( no fun if you have to do everything 10 times and hope it works eventually

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — BoB’s Morning Walks

*2026-07-23*

Just retired and found the joys of walking in the morning this app just add a bit of fun to it. I’ve also doing the 5K Couch to 5K. The walk is good for the off days. Thoroughly enjoying it.

### 5/5 — Makes me want to walk more

*2025-11-06*

The storyline and the voice actors are really good. It makes me want to walk more. Thank you for creating this app.

### 5/5 — Bella e stimolante

*2025-03-09, version 2.6.5*

Bella e stimolante, lavorate sulla possibilità di scegliere la lingua differente

### 5/5 — Motivating

*2025-01-05, version 2.6.5*

I am a person that has trouble with motivation to exercise. This app genuinely motivates me. I want to do episodes over and over to get every medal and complete every challenge. I love it. Make more apps like this!

### 5/5 — Please make more walking apps!

*2023-06-28, version 2.6.3*

I loved loved loved this app. It really inspired me to walk. The voice acting and story line were superb. Please make more walking apps with this same setup. I clocked a ton steps using it. I prefer walking at my own pace/time when my job permits. So this app type is perfect for a busy office worker that has to squeeze in workouts in snippets.

Thank you!

### 5/5 — A suggestion for the next update

*2023-02-04, version 2.6.3*

I completed a 2.20 hr walk and I was a bit annoyed that using this app it didn't have an option for a self playing feature for the audio when you unlock them. Could you also implement a distance walked in feet/miles/time/km.

I enjoyed the story so far; I completed the first two on my trip. Intense, and in depth.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2022-05-01, version 2.6.2*

I have been having fun with it, definitely motivational to up my daily steps, thanks!

### 5/5 — More please

*2021-09-14*

Please give us a sequel or something! I miss this app! I played this when it first came out and now, years later, I still have fond memories of it and even have a quote saved that I find so incredibly inspirational that I have shared the quote with friends and even patients. “'The sea is like life.' That's what my dad used to say. Sea doesn't care about you. Doesn't know about you. It's gonna try and break you. Not because it hates you... But just because... That's what it is and that's what it does. And you've got to find a boat or learn to swim. And when the big wave come you've got to ride them or you'll drown. That's what happened to you: big wave came, you rode it, didn't drown, might have done, but didn't. . . You were brave and you were strong and you won. Here you are.”

### 5/5 — Excellent Walking app

*2021-04-28*

I really enjoy this and it gets me walking to find out what happens next in the story. I would like the option to play the audio clips automatically but this is a minor point.
I especially like the throwback touches to Zombies Run - curly wurlys , a sports bra and of course familiar voice actors (Sam Yao 😃).

### 5/5 — Great game

*2021-04-11*

This app already has me walking more every day. My dog loves it.
