### 2/5 — “Restore Purchase”

*2026-08-10, version 15.6.1*

Since the price hike ($45 ☠️), the app won’t let you read any news articles unless you subscribe or restore purchase. I’ve been loyal to this company for years and have resubscribed. It still won’t let me view any news - just takes me back to the screen to “restore purchase”. If this isn’t fixed within the week, I’m going to delete WSJ and move on to some other news source.

### 2/5 — Fixes needed

*2026-08-05, version 15.6.0*

Love the WSJ., but please fix the audio player for articles! The first 10 seconds it reads some miscellaneous info about the article which can be skipped — and it doesn’t even pronounce things like “WSJ.Magazine” right, which it should.
And second, you can’t even exit the app or lock your iphone while listening to an article. This is very unfortunate

### 2/5 — Popup ads? I’m already paying!

*2026-08-02, version 15.6.0*

Not sure why I get popup ads in the middle of articles now. Quite annoying. The app is also laggy, which is silly, since all it needs to do is display text.

That aside, enjoy the articles.

### 3/5 — Crossword update

*2026-07-12, version 15.4.1*

Please revert to the prior crossword format. The new format took away the ability to easily navigate to the next clue, and replaced it with a clunky interface with small arrows requiring very precise touch points. Also allow the iPad native keyboard to be utilized. It is cumbersome to have to use a WSJ developed keyboard just to complete the crossword. Also, all crosswords now display “play” with no indication on “completed.” Please put back the completed denotation. Thank you.

### 2/5 — Unable to post comments to articles using the mobile app

*2026-07-12, version 15.4.1*

"The Internet connection appears to be offline." Yet I am able to read the articles. This has been an ongoing problem, yet no developer has addressed it.

### 1/5 — Opt out bug

*2026-07-07, version 15.4.0*

If you don’t choose “accept all” it goes into a terminal holding pattern that requires that I delete the app. Until this is fixed, I have to use the browser for content.

### 2/5 — Crossword fan

*2026-07-06, version 15.4.0*

You broke the crossword with the recent update. The keyboard is not ergonomic on iPad, clues bizarrely jump around when inputting letters and the clue being answered no longer appears as a separate line. Please fix or revert to the previous iteration.

### 3/5 — Gift Links Don’t work.

*2026-07-04, version 15.4.0*

Please fix app so I can send gift links This used to work. Now link says it copies but recipients can’t open. Sends them to subscriber/log in page.

### 2/5 — SLOW

*2026-07-03, version 15.4.0*

This app just keeps hanging up. I don’t know if they’re doing it intentionally to force you to look at ads, but I can’t get through a single article without it hanging up. Updates seem to make no difference, and I’m on fiber, so not a bandwidth issue.

### 1/5 — Can’t login with Sign In With Apple

*2026-07-02, version 15.3.1*

I’ll change this rating once this is fixed, but I’ve subscribed to the app but can’t login with Sign In With Apple! I’ve tried over and over on multiple devices. It takes me to the Safari browser, I select my account, it signs in and stays on a blank page. It doesn’t take me back to the app, and the app stays signed out. I’m extremely frustrated with this!

### 4/5 — Sustainable business went dark

*2026-07-01, version 15.3.1*

Always have appreciated the quality of reporting especially with the Sustainable Business section. Too bad they took it out.

### 3/5 — no comments

*2026-06-30, version 15.3.1*

I don’t get why this app doesn’t let you leave comments—only on the website. It’s 2024, how hard can it be to add such a basic feature to the app?

### 3/5 — So-called issue download doesn’t work

*2026-06-30, version 15.3.1*

I tried to download the most recent issue before getting on a plane (which had no WiFi), but the so-called download let me read only about half the articles. Half the articles only showed an error message that I needed to have internet access.

A far superior download capability was eliminated when the WSJ app was overhauled a couple of years ago. Please bring back that full function. You certainly can’t be proud of this weak halfway offering.

### 1/5 — Please fix the Crossword puzzle!

*2026-06-29, version 15.3.1*

Not sure what happened, but it’s a mess now. Put it back to the previous iteration…from a few days ago so the iOS keyboard can be used and we can preview letters, words etc. Other aspects of the app are fine.

### 1/5 — Crosswords are terrible!

*2026-06-29, version 15.3.1*

What have you done to the Crossword section? In landscape, the print is so tiny I can barely see it. In portrait, I can’t see across and down clues at the same time.
My completed puzzles don’t stay in the App so I can’t tell which puzzle I did last.
Please change it back.

### 1/5 — AI Listen not working

*2026-06-27, version 15.3.1*

If you click to read an article and within the article page, hit play to listen to article, it will play. However, as soon as phone locks or you turn off the screen, the article stops playing. However, if you hit play in the screen where you can scroll through all the articles, black earphone icon appears on bottom right, and the article does not stop playing even if you turn off the screen. Please fix this bug.

### 1/5 — Polymarket partnership

*2026-06-23, version 15.3.1*

They’re still partnered with polymarket despite their own reporting revealing that they pay influencers to shill them

### 1/5 — No userid anywhere on site

*2026-06-20, version 15.3.0*

No place to find the userid.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Autoplaying videos have no place in a business app

*2026-08-27, version 15.8.0*

Autoplaying videos - with audio at full blast. No setting to disable. Obnoxious and unprofessional.

### 1/5 — Autoplay videos super annoying

*2026-08-26, version 15.7.1*

The great reporting etc etc is being ruined by the awful autoplay videos that blast out sound randomly and can’t be turned off in any settings. PLEASE FIX this.

### 1/5 — Audio for articles is ruined

*2026-08-22, version 15.7.1*

This app used to be great. But now if you stay to listen to an article (read by AI) the article will stop if you lock the screen. Or if you navigate away from the app. This ruins the whole reason to use the audio, so you don’t have to stare at the screen. No longer can you lock the phone and put it in your pocket to listen to an article like you can with any of the hundreds of other similar apps. New York Times app can do this, too complicated for you to program, WSJ?

### 1/5 — Turn off video autoplay and turn down ad sensitivity

*2026-08-17, version 15.7.0*

Turn off video autoplay and turn down ad sensitivity

### 1/5 — great content, awful app

*2026-08-12, version 15.6.1*

The audio read option is awesome, great articles, easy access, but has a glaring flaw: settings. For those of us who logon to READ the WSJ, we do NOT want to have a video automatically play. I absolutely HATE auto video. It's distracting from the READING an article. Why can't WSJ make this a setting that can be turned off like 99.9% of other content apps???

### 1/5 — Turn off the autoplay

*2026-08-12, version 15.6.1*

You gotta turn off the video auto play with sound. It’s obnoxious. Especially when your phone is on silent. Turn it off.

### 1/5 — Ads playing

*2026-08-10, version 15.6.1*

Had wsj for years. Somewhat recently, maybe months or so, the ads have started to automatically play with sound. It's so abrupt and jarring, and plays noise publicly, I'm about to uninstall and unsubscribe.

Even without sound, for over a year, the auto play has been pausing whatever I'm listening to in the background automatically. Put a setting in to turn it off.

### 1/5 — Ads too touch sensitive!

*2026-08-10, version 15.6.1*

Your overly touch sensitive ads make reading articles in the app an exercise in frustration. Tone down the sensitivity to match your competitors please. I don’t like constantly popping up new ad windows which take me outside your app involuntarily.

### 1/5 — Canceling is a pain

*2026-07-30, version 15.5.0*

Honesty this has been the hardest cancelation I’ve ever had to deal with. There is no button to cancel subscription. You must call customer service with faulty phone numbers and then they are no help when you get them. I have been trying to cancel for a hour. Honestly ridiculous that I have to go this far just to cancel.

### 1/5 — Not free, like it says

*2026-07-11, version 15.4.1*

No, you have to subscribe unless you just want to read previews.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great UI

*2026-07-15, version 15.4.1*

I liked new WSJ+ concept and finally comment sections on the app

### 5/5 — They solved the comments issue

*2026-06-30, version 15.3.1*

They finally solved seeing comments in the app. Thank goodness.

### 5/5 — A rare find these days.

*2026-03-18, version 14.61.1*

Really strong reporting. In a time where media is consistently biased - WSJ is committed to reporting truth over partisanship. One of the few outlets that seems to have found a way report the news, verify sources, and callout both left and right extremism. Opinion pieces are present, but clearly called out as such. We need more of this and less brands that push for engagement by feeding rage and conflict narratives.

### 5/5 — Support iPhone widgets

*2026-01-20, version 14.56.2*

Can you please support the iPhone widgets to read news

### 5/5 — Nobody asked for this

*2026-01-12, version 14.56.1*

Please give an option to eliminate the AI summaries. Would rather read reporting from real people

### 5/5 — Solid work

*2026-01-11, version 14.56.1*

Outstanding quality journalism! Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Works perfectly!

*2025-12-31, version 14.56.1*

Though I’d love a dark mode option on it

### 5/5 — Trash

*2025-12-19, version 14.56.0*

If you want to read more on an. Article you need to pay up homie lol

### 5/5 — Like the app, want speed control on audio

*2025-11-21, version 14.53.0*

The app is great minus one feature I really really want. Include faster audio speaking. Up to 3x minimum
