When you tap a story to read it, there’s a video popup at the bottom of the screen that shows up every single time. Who would design this? You can either scroll with the annoying video taking up a quarter of the screen or close it a thousand times. It makes the app nearly unusable. ### 4/5 — Settings? *2025-07-14, version 1.4.15* I get that it helps them increase income by doing push notifications. But to force me to decline EVERY TIME I open the app is frustrating. Deleted it. ### 2/5 — Buggy *2024-08-07, version 1.4.10* It worked great but over the past 2 weeks the screen turns red, causing a restart of the app. The cycle continues until I give up. It hits you with the same popup every time you change pages, and then it just suddenly crashes and goes blank. There is a persistent, useless pop up touting an uninteresting podcast that covers the bottom of the screen. Even when dismissed, it insists on coming back in a manner reminiscent of several memorable politicians from recent years. Second, the same story can appear multiple times as one scrolls through the site. I’ve known teen aged boys who exhibited better organizational skills than can be found here. ### 3/5 — App freezes with red screen over and over *2023-10-20, version 1.4.8* Almost every time I open the app it freezes at the red window and doesn’t go any further. The app fails to open most of the time and all one sees is a red screen. The app also crashes frequently. I do not encounter these problems with other newspaper apps. My other complaint is just the unbelievable amount of advertising they do even for paid subscribers. Well, I like the content, but it comes at a big price. I still have months I login successfully again and again, and it keeps trying to sell me another subscription A big red screen prevents me from reading anything. And they still haven’t fixed Facebook articles opening in the app. I’m tired of waiting. This is my final year. While the Times coverage is great and informative, the new app only presents itself on an iPad vertically. Since I use an iPad with a keyboard attached in landscape mode, the new version is a pain in the you know where. Advertisers are getting ripped off as well since jumps to popups happen when user does NOT intentionally click on ad area on screen. Yes, I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app, but the crashes continue. DEVELOPER: I am using an UTD Apple iPhone 13. The crashes happen randomly but always while I’m in the middle of reading an article. Whatever page I’m on just suddenly turns all red and stays that way. There is nothing to click on and swiping right on the screen does nothing; I have to close out the app, reopen and then search for the article in order to finish reading it. Would you please fix this problem?
