### 4/5 — Best as I have seen

*2015-08-29, version 4.2.0*

This app has matured and has become better and more easier to use and understand. The commentary is well edited and brief. I have been using this app in previous manifestations and it was a bit clunky to use and lacked an easy way to know what each of the pictorial collections was about. I will definitely use this more, especially to get a closer look at stories I am interested in. My only quibble is that there is a subscription for HD.

### 4/5 — Limit cache size

*2015-04-11*

There is no possibility to limit the app size. It keeps on growing in time. Otherwise a nice informative app.

### 5/5 — Beautiful photography, amazing news

*2014-03-14, version 3.0.0*

Photographed news, I am keeping this app. The things I learn are things yahoo and msn don't talk about. Why? I have no clue. Glad I downloaded this app.

### 5/5 — A terrific document of history!

*2014-03-12*

Great layout, detailed summaries and engaging photographs make for a beautiful story.

This app is a wonderful exposé of the world that we know and the world that is not vastly traversed.

One thing I beg of you Reuters, please maintain this. LIFE had a similar app a few years ago and for one reason or another decayed, real shame.

Thanks again.

### 5/5 — Outstanding

*2014-01-31*

It's wonderful to be able to focus one's attention on the magnificent photographs from the Reuters photographers.

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2013-11-16*

A great app bring superb photography but needs a couple of bug fixes. Often the page will not rotate denying a landscape orientation.

### 5/5 — WOW!

*2013-11-02, version 2.2.7*

In the sad news times we have, this is a shining example of how to widen cultural perspectives in a creative and visually brilliant way….this is what learning about our world is all about. WOW! I just love this app. The photography is exceptional, each and every picture has such a high standard. The imbedded videos are so cool too (making Gruyere in Switzerland to cow bells was a really moving well crafted piece of documentary journalism). I'd so much rather see pictures and read a piece about Chavez in Venezuela on this app than ANY mainstream news organisation will provide. Kudos for such brilliant work!!!

### 5/5 — Beautiful eye candy!

*2013-10-04, version 2.2.7*

This is true eye candy! It is set up in such a way that even the fingernail images are amazing to look at. I truly love this app and will most likely be spending hours draining my iPads battery reading through all the amazing articles as well as the images throughout!

### 4/5 — HD please!?

*2013-09-29*

Everything is great, lots of stuff but you really need to put your images in real HD or hi-res!

### 5/5 — The finest app of its kind

*2013-09-24*

This is the best photography news app that I have downloaded. The quality of the content is to a very high standard, and the variety and difference in how it is presented can be ingeniously done, as is the ability to save and check your favourites. The demographic information is an added bonus, and comparing two countries along several variables is quick easy and slick. I really cannot recommend this highly enough - I learn so much about the world from it.

### 5/5 — Beautiful

*2013-08-05*

Beautiful app. Love everything about it.

### 5/5 — Quality pics and quality stories!

*2013-07-15, version 2.1.1*

I look forward to he updated stories here. If you enjoy slices of life on a global scale, you will enjoy this app. The photos tell a story unto themselves but the text behind them is often poignant and heartfelt. Current events are covered well, be it in westernized news or ( just as significantly) from any country on the globe. I often feel enlightened to the lives of far off peoples when I access The Wider Image. Install and be engaged.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2013-07-10, version 2.1.1*

Extremely high quality content. The app is well designed, easy to navigate, works very well. One of my favorite, and best, apps- and I own quite a few. Superb images and intense human stories. Brilliant- having access to this content is a gift.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2013-06-01*

Extremely well designed app, this app showcases everything the iPad is.

Excellent content and stories from Reuters.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes constantly

*2015-07-31*

Since the update on July 25th, the app crashes every time before opening. I hope there is a quick fix.

### 1/5 — So Disapointed

*2012-11-11, version 2.0.0*

I love these kind of Apps.......Life Mag has one similar......the Disappointing part is that it appears that these types of Apps are for viewing only once because they never change.......I see my disappointment is shared by many others.....it would be nice if Reuters would post a response telling us either it is Being Fixed or Get Used To It, This Is As Good As It Gets.....at least it would help us make a decision....

### 2/5 — Constantly crashing

*2015-05-25*

Would love to give this app five stars, for its informative stories, but constantly crashes after five seconds. I tried this 15 times in roll and every time it crashes. Please fix this!

### 2/5 — Despite all the obvious improvements over Galleries

*2015-04-04*

It is really NOT cool that the app has no option for clearing its cache. It constantly grows in size and, for me, is already over 300mb in size. The only way to deal with it, it seems, is to delete it and re-install it. This will effectively wipe out all the galleries that you marked as favorite to look at them later.

Also, I really miss the portrait orientation.

### 2/5 — Not impressed

*2013-01-05, version 2.0.2*

While initially impressive, clean and interesting. The news never updates. Every time I log in it is the same pictures, articles and slideshows that were on the home page 2 weeks previous when I was last on. If content was ever posted or changed this could be a great news app

### 2/5 — Updates?

*2013-01-01*

The news are very old and rarely updated...

### 2/5 — Where is Canada?

*2012-10-19*

I would love this app, but for the fact that Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto are the only Canadian cities marked on the included world map. Of all the stories I've looked at, not a single one is about Canada, so for me, the app as a whole is useless; I have no point of reference for understanding Canada's involvement in world issues.

### 3/5 — Superb content, badly needs modernising

*2020-10-18*

The content itself is an inspiring, eye opening view on the world. The app itself hasn’t been updated in years. It has no modern sharing options, it’s low resolution, has no bookmarking system and crashes all the time. Really hope it will see a good update.

### 3/5 — Amazing photojournalism crippled by pricing and user interface

*2014-08-19*

The photography and writing is really incredible and is easily worth paying for, but the subscription plans just don't seem worth it. I'd pay $10 upfront for this app but there's so much competition in this field I feel it's hard to justify the price when other content is just a few taps away.

### 3/5 — Super creative

*2013-11-22, version 2.2.7*

When I first got Wider Image almost a year ago, I was very happy with this app. It still has beautiful photo images and is very informative. It covers the globe and provides information about some unusual and remote places. Unfortunately, their stories don't get refreshed that often. I still see the same old articles for months which frankly gets boring. Another thing is that Wider Image does not allow you to download or copy their photos( copy rights).

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A Photo in a Thousand words

*2019-03-09, version 4.7.0*

Truly the saying that a A Single Photo is worth a thousand words, in this app is worth a million indescribable words and the photos and photographers view are astonishing. Giving the viewer such mixed emotions and a front seat to the view of the world.

### 5/5 — Beautifully Done

*2016-12-29, version 4.6.0*

As the description says, the app is a collection of visual stories, rather like short National Geographic pieces. The stories are beautifully done and cover an incredible range of topics from around the world. I'm not sure how I missed this app until now but I enjoy it a lot.

### 5/5 — Wider Image - Reuters

*2015-04-23, version 4.0.1*

I downloaded this app some time ago and hadn't really used it until recently, but when I opened it and came across the Ethiopian salt trade feature (which is excellent) I was hooked.

It's a fabulous combination of text and pictures. And they keep adding features such as being able to follow individual countries.

Quite simply it may be the best reason to own an iPad!

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2015-04-06*

What a fantastic app from Reuters. Amazing current affairs content from around the world with high quality images.

### 5/5 — Elegant

*2014-09-29*

Many apps these days are glitchy and hesitant, and often slow on older devices such as iPad 2. This app, however, is perfectly designed and runs very smoothly. A great way to discover interesting stories from around the world, presented in an elegant manner.

### 5/5 — Davenport

*2014-09-07*

An extraordinary resource. A time capsule for the ages. Great stories in pics and words.

### 5/5 — Brilliant Reuters

*2014-08-31*

Excellent and beautiful app. Also very informative!

### 5/5 — Star news

*2014-07-21*

Thank you Reuters, a beautiful tool that is silky to use (can you say that about an app?) with gorgeous image
Content that puts the photographer front and centre backed by high quality journalism.

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2014-05-29*

This app deserves awards! The presentation is outstanding, the photos are absolutely beautiful and together with the text it presents educational top value.

### 5/5 — Loved this BUT... Update crashes!

*2014-03-14, version 3.0.0*

I have used this app for awhile and it has been fabulous. Latest update has made it unusable. Why put out an update that screws up something that was previously working? Would have given 1 star but it "was" an awesome app before this update.
Update on review: my bad! I actually shut down my iPad and rebooted.
now the app and it's icon work flawlessly again, so 5 stars!
