## What is The Woodlands Trail Guide?

The Woodlands Trail Guide maps the full pathway network of The Woodlands, Texas - over 200 miles of paved pathways and natural trails - and helps you actually use it.

YOUR WOODLANDS
See how much of the network you've walked. Record a walk and the pathways you covered fill in on the map, building a personal map of the town over months. Grogan's Mill, Alden Bridge, Creekside Park and the rest each track separately, so there's always a smaller goal than all 200 miles. Share your map whenever you want to.

PLAN A WALK, JOG OR RUN
Tell the app how far you want to go, or how long you want to be out, and it builds a route to match. Choose a loop that comes back a different way, or a straight out-and-back. Prefer paved pathways, or stick to natural surface trails. Start from where you are, from an address, or from any point you tap on the map.

TURN-BY-TURN ON THE TRAIL
Follow your route step by step with directions written for pathways, not streets. If you wander off, the app quietly finds you a new way. If you start somewhere off the network, it walks you to the trail first.

KNOW WHAT'S AROUND YOU
Restrooms, parking, playgrounds, water fountains, pavilions, sports fields, picnic areas, bridges and trolley stops - mapped and filtered as you zoom, so you see what's useful at the scale you're looking at.

TRACK WHAT YOU'VE DONE
Every finished walk is logged with distance and time. Watch your total miles, your longest walk and your day streak build up, and collect achievements along the way. Finish a route and you can share a card showing the path you took.

BUILT ON REAL DATA
Pathways, trails and points of interest come from The Woodlands Township's own published GIS data, refreshed over the air - so the map reflects the network as it actually is, not a hand-drawn approximation.

ALSO INCLUDED
- Featured walks: curated routes worth doing, with directions
- Elevation profile for any route you build
- Live weather at the trailhead
- Save favorite trails
- Share a route with someone as a link
- Log a finished walk to Apple Health as a workout
- Photos you attach to a place stay on your device

ABOUT LOCATION
Recording a walk keeps location running while your screen is off, so your route is captured even with the phone in your pocket. It runs only while you have started a walk, and iOS shows the blue indicator the whole time. Nothing is tracked between walks, and where you have walked stays on your device.

The Woodlands Trail Guide is free. An optional one-time purchase removes ads, and a tip jar supports continued development.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0 — 2026-10-26

YOUR WOODLANDS

The app used to forget your walk the moment it ended. Now it remembers where you have been.

Tap Record on the map - or just navigate a route - and the pathways you walk fill in. Over weeks they add up into your own map of the town: 200 miles of network, slowly going from faint to solid.

It is split by village, because 200 miles in one number is a wall. Finishing Indian Springs is a season. Alden Bridge is a longer one. Open "Your Woodlands" in About to see where you stand in each.

And when you have covered enough to be proud of, you can share the map.

Also in this update:
- A pathway only counts once you have walked most of its length, so passing the end of one does not tick it off
- Walked pathways are drawn over the map as you go
- Favorites on park trails no longer come loose when the Township updates its data

### 1.8 — 2026-10-20

The app is now called The Woodlands Trail Guide - matching the way people actually say it, and the other local guides. Nothing else has changed in this update.

### 1.7 — 2026-10-10

A new opening. The app now greets you with a short animated splash while your trail map loads, instead of a blank screen.

### 1.6 — 2026-10-03

A fresh look. New typography throughout, redesigned map markers, and a cleaner route card that's easier to read at a glance on the trail.

Achievements now show your progress. Every badge you haven't earned yet tells you exactly how close you are - "18.4 / 25 mi" instead of just a locked icon.

Refreshed trail, park and point-of-interest data from The Woodlands Township.

### 1.5 — 2026-09-29

• Start a route from anywhere — your current location, a typed address, or a
point you tap on the map.
• Share your walk. Finish a route and get a card showing the path you took,
  your distance and your time.
• Clearer route planning. When the trail network can't reach your target
distance, the app now explains why instead of quietly handing you a shorter
  route.
• Rate the app from the About tab, plus a link to The Woodlands Dispatch.
