I especially love rocking in the Blastozoic era with my son. The interface could use a couple updates though. The biggest by far is that the menu and play buttons need to be moved up away from the bottom of the screen. Half of each button is in the zone that iOS interprets as the start of a “scroll up.” It would also be nice if current song info was transmitted over Bluetooth. When listening in my car, it’s not always safe to look at my phone to see what song is playing. ### 4/5 — Great but some issues *2022-07-11, version 4.3* I absolutely love listening to this; especially on the road or my runs but it does need some adjustment. 1st - it won’t resume playing after I get an alert or some other pop up. Especially when I’m using a running app in the background. I have to slow down or even walk to restart the music playing. 2nd - the buttons are two low and hard to hit. I have to focus on exactly what I’m hitting as it won’t let me hit the buttons with out trying to “swipe up” the screen. 3rd - it would be great to see what is playing on the Lock Screen. And maybe a previous/next song. Fox these and I could easily give it a 5 Star! I only have it 4 instead of 3 because it’s one of the few apps that play without freezing up and gives me the ability to switch between Christian Genre depending on my needs! Please fix these and soon!! ### 4/5 — UI could use some help *2022-04-14, version 4.3* I really like Blast Blender and this app is better than TuneIn because you can see what is playing. It also doesn’t have the resume issue, pressing play starts from the current song. That said, it could use some improvement. First, I wish the Lock Screen would show what is playing. I don’t like having to open the app to see what song is playing. Second, the play/pause button and the rest of the menu is too low on the screen and too small. It sits over the bar at the bottom and I usually end up selecting a song instead of playing. Some menu items don’t work. I would love for there to be an Apple Watch app that shows Now Playing, especially if it could play without my phone nearby. ### 4/5 — Fantastic app *2019-05-01, version 4.3* I’m just having trouble with the music cutting out. My connection is fine, but I can’t seem to listen to a whole song before it cuts out. The music is great, and I've discovered a lot of awesome artists since I started using the app. But I've been having a lot of problems with the music stopping mid-song, followed by the app crashing. Also, a lot of the album art won't refresh when a new song comes along. Maybe this is a problem with my phone? Two things I'd love to see in the app though are: 1. Album art of current song 2. Previous song list - so you can look back and see a song name and artist if you wanted to write it down. If these two things were added I'd rate it 5 out of 5 :) ### 5/5 — The Blast.... The best current Christian Rock! *2013-07-18, version 2.4* I have been listening to blast for about a week. Praise God for the wonderfully talented and gifted band featured on this station. May God bless the Blast.FM crew and all bands played on their station, helping spread God's message with music! ### 4/5 — Lots of Metal *2013-04-05, version 2.4* I like Skillet, TFK, Manifest and some other harder rock, but I also like Newsboys, Toby Mac, FF5, Group 1 etc. I like a touch of metal here and there, but not into the mostly metal that they play and all the metal "screaming" they play on the Blast. If you like that kind of music, then this has a good mix of it. It is awesome that there are stations that play Christian Rock and others that play Christian metal. Love the idea and would be great if it had worked by downloading from App Store but it don’t and now I’m left with a app that shows the black splash. ### 1/5 — Please fix *2013-09-05, version 2.4* Crashes every time I try to open the app... ### 1/5 — What Happened? *2012-02-08, version 2.4* The app used to run fine but now when after starting it will play for several seconds and then stop playing even though app still tells me that it is playing music. I now find myself just playing the blast through the tunecast app that actually works properly. Please fix! ### 1/5 — Poor performance *2011-01-22, version 2.2* First run ad it crashed. Buffers very poor. Using the .pls link in mobile Safari is more reliable. App slow. I can't believe this passed the App Store standards. :( I love TheBlast but this app is a little bit embarrassing. Like the previous reviewer mentioned the app doesn't give you music info on the home screen, you can't play/pause with your headphone controls. The UI is hard to use as the buttons are under the area you use to switch apps on iPhones with Face id (most iphones any more). And the interface is poorly designed, switching radio stations, playing and pausing and so on could be all immediately available on the main interface. Lastly the app no longer is working for me, it just won't play the radio stations 99% of the time even though the stream on the website works fine. ### 2/5 — Too difficult to read *2014-04-21, version 3.4* Finding a station with the songs you like impossible ### 2/5 — The station is great! The app? Not so much. *2012-02-19, version 2.4* Let me be clear: I'm not reviewing the content; The Blast is one my favorite online stations. I just have some serious issues with the way the app (v2.4) is designed. First off, the screen. On an iPad it wouldn't be a problem, but on an iPhone or iPod touch the controls are far too small and finicky for use when mobile. I have thin, precise fingers; I can't imagine how tough it would be for people with thick fingers to get the right stream. As a side note, I couldn't get the 32K stream to work at all. Background the logo and spread the selectors out a little — or better yet, make the bandwidth selection a preference so the main screen isn't so difficult to deal with in a car. The backgrounding mechanism, like the rest of this app, seems crude compared to some others I've used. In fact, it's not something that should ever have to be brought to the user's attention (let alone using up a screen in Mobile Safari). It's disconcerting to punch up the station, only to have it stop when the phone goes into lock mode because I forgot to explicitly background it. You may not find trance/progressive to be your kind of music, but anyone who wants to see how a great station-specific app is done should try out the AH.FM app. The AOL Radio app is also pretty good. I think TheBlast deserves an app at least as good as those. ### 2/5 — Slightly better than regular Christian radio *2011-06-12, version 2.3* Description is a little misleading. Sounds like I am listening to way fm ### 3/5 — Too Limited (maybe.) *2017-03-31, version 4.2* Update: The developers contacted me about my review. They said they were incorporating more old stuff. They also said they have something for older stuff Saturdays for it. I might try it in the future. Original review: This app caught my attention because I love Christian hard rock/metal. At first use, I thought it was okay—as it went on, however, I noticed that they would play the same songs a few hours later after they had played it a few hours previously. I then noticed that this was the regular way they did this. I kept the app after this realization, seeing if they would mix it up—they didn't. My main problem with this app is that I think it's too limited. I think it needs WAY more older stuff, (E.G., older Disciple, Skillet, etc.) They did play some older things, but they were few and far between. I understand that you need to play new stuff, but not everyone likes the new stuff (raises hand.) I think they should mix it up a few days a week with older stuff. (When I say older stuff, I mean Disciple's Back Again, By God, etc., and Skillet's Collide, etc.) Overall, I give this app three stars. It looks great on the dash in CarPlay and I can even see what song is playing on my Apple Watch.
