### 4/5 — Concise news

*2023-10-08*

Just the right amount for my interest level.

### 1/5 — Pearse Mc Dermott review

*2021-07-02*

Totally biased app. Ireland and it’s citizens are supposed to be free to speak but not the case with The journal. A complete waste of time asking their readers for reviews because any confrontation or differences of opinion is disregarded.

### 4/5 — Good reads

*2021-01-21*

Always curious how the Irish see us Americans. Especially liked Bono’s comment about USA.

### 5/5 — You Irish!!

*2021-01-06*

Just signed in and have enjoyed the news...good and bad. Always like to have access to the “auld sod”. Find the reporting style both accurate and novel as compared to the US news sources. Hope the newspaper survives the internet. Detroit Patrick

### 5/5 — My homeland

*2020-12-08*

Love reading from my homeland. Keep up the good work.

### 4/5 — The journal

*2020-11-15*

Really enjoy read most days

### 4/5 — Don't read the comments

*2020-09-09*

The news reporting is very good, but their comments section is horrendous. It is a puddle of misanthropes, right wingers in disguise, egg people and angry loons. It should be removed, it adds nothing.

### 5/5 — Love reading the Journal

*2020-09-04*

Started reading the Journal to get better understanding of Brexit and found I enjoy the other articles as well. BTW I live in the U.S.

### 5/5 — Great source for the news

*2020-08-29*

Never miss it . A must read morning and evening

### 4/5 — Hire a spell checker

*2020-08-20*

I enjoy the articles, but seriously, you need a proof reader before things go online. I am dyslexic so have to triple check my work before I send anyone anything. The amount of spelling mistakes in your articles is ridiculous and lowers the professionalism of your outlet.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Far left propaganda

*2026-03-03*

So unfairly bias. Country crying out for middle ground

### 1/5 — Loosest use of word ‘news’

*2025-08-10*

Had this app some years now and sadly it continues to slide from a source of news, to simply a platform for the contributors views and egos. Content is often shambolically presented with an overuse of gifs. Probably I’m now outside target audience, with focus now being on people who would rather be told what to think rather than think for themselves. Comments section can be very nasty.

Update: Aug 25. Deleted. Don’t mind ads so was happy to read without ‘signing in’. Now mandatory that even to read you have to sign in. Not going to happen . They state that“It could allow us to be more commercially viable to advertisers and make it easier for us to bring you a more tailored and useful experience…To be clear, we haven’t yet decided whether sign-ins will be mandatory in the future; we are using this phase to understand and analyse its impact.

Is this the beginning of a paywall?

We at The Journal believe access to quality information is a cornerstone of a democratic community. We are committed to being a source for this kind of vital information and it is why we encourage those who can afford it to consider contributing to our readers’ fund to keep access open for those who need it most…”

Not happening!

### 1/5 — Video Ads make app Unusable

*2025-03-03*

This used to be my primary news app. I’m not against advertising on news apps, however I find this forced video advertising to be extremely distracting. It also consumes a lot more data so I am no longer able to use the app if I’m not using WiFi

### 1/5 — Gas

*2024-04-28, version 3.31.8*

No reports on Ulster games or does the gaa only happen in 3 provinces?
Or is it just lazy journalism

### 1/5 — Censorship

*2023-11-06*

I was contributor for over 10 years, never rude or broke their rules. But they banned me and likely thousands of others from posting comments that didn’t align with their globalist values.

### 1/5 — The only way

*2023-11-04, version 3.30.11*

Only tells the news the government wants it to tell. Not real news

### 1/5 — Martin

*2023-11-01*

I find your reporting very pro- British. If someone mentions ‘the north of Ireland’ you will change it to Northern Ireland, why? What you are doing is what the Brit’s want - portray the 6 counties as a different country oblivious to the thousands of Irish people who see it as much a part of Ireland as cork or Kerry. If you want to be viewed as an independent and honest news app then quote people in what and how they say things not as you would want them to say it. Actually, I’d love to know the answer to this question - are you instructed/told you MUST revere to the north of Ireland as Northern Ireland and change people’s reference to NI using any other term????

### 1/5 — Comments

*2023-10-23*

Leave thé comments section open for discussion. Otherwise the app isn’t worth downloading

### 1/5 — Copy & Paste

*2023-10-22*

Biased , lazy reporting with many articles copy & pasted from other sites . Comments closed on too many articles and when they are open many get removed if subject matter is in any way challenged .

### 1/5 — Same topic for 2 years

*2022-01-25*

Over the last 2 years I’ve stopped opening the app due to 90% of the articles being about covid. I just recently opened the app and its still at least 75% about covid. Its like nothing else is going on???

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Daily news updates

*2023-10-24*

I get a brief update on a number of the relevant news issues each day.
I read all the reports every day, which keeps me well informed, on the reliant happenings both in Ireland and around the world.
The articles are a short concise synopses on the relevant points, I like this style of reporting.

### 5/5 — Great news

*2023-07-05*

Well written

*2022-03-02*

A wonderful, fairly comprehensive daily account of national and international happenings. No convoluted language. Well done to all journalists.

### 5/5 — Great site to get news from home and around the world

*2021-09-16*

Great reporting from all the staff.

### 5/5 — Journal

*2021-08-28*

Love the journal and the comments after an article are like life itself… funny, sad, angry ,loving , and strange… life is for living 🤝

### 5/5 — More honest

*2021-01-17*

This one doesn’t seem as bias as most American newspapers that tend to publish their opinions rather than facts
