### 2/5 — Notifications suck

*2026-08-22, version 1.102.4*

The probes work great. Unlike other competitors, these probes work and don't suffer continual connectivity issues. The biggest complaint I have is the audio notifications need more settings options. The default audio isn't effective. And the notification doesn't push well at all. Spotty at best push notifications. I have mentioned to the company, but I have not seen any improvements on the updates.

### 4/5 — Works perfectly. App could be better.

*2026-08-11, version 1.102.4*

Really, it’s all in the title. Seems to work exactly as designed. I’d say the app seems oriented toward pro’s or pro-sumers. Could be more intuitive in setup and use, and provide more information for casual/home cooks. E.g.: I used a cheap ($50) Weber device to test a wireless thermometer, and the ThermoWorks probes are worth the upgrade, but the Weber app was better.

### 4/5 — Thermo Review

*2026-08-08, version 1.102.4*

Great dashboard, moderately easy to use. Needs a low battery warning.

### 3/5 — Watch App is Trash

*2026-07-26, version 1.101.4*

Zero effort put into it. Doesn’t work unless you are right next to the unit. You have to forward a URL from you phone to your watch and view temp updates in Safari. Just about the laziest development.

### 5/5 — No fail!

*2026-07-04, version 1.101.4*

The solution to poor probes and temperature readings from manufacturer devices that don’t cut it. I’ve been using it for a few years without fail. Once you sort the wireless connectivity out and the ability to keep track remotely is super handy.

### 5/5 — Thermometry- R-Us

*2026-07-03, version 1.101.4*

Best source of cooking and household thermometers anywhere. I have bought MANY of their excellent products over the past decade or more.

### 3/5 — It’s times for smart home functionality!

*2026-07-03, version 1.101.4*

This is a good app, but why not smart home functionality? There are Chinese companies compatible with all smart ecosystems.

### 5/5 — Better thank MEATER

*2026-07-02, version 1.101.4*

Having had both. Thermo RFX can go to higher temperatures (my other brand broke due to high temperatures) has great range thermometers work and last longer.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2026-06-28, version 1.100.8*

One of the best products I’ve purchased for my culinary adventure. Well, worth the investment.

### 5/5 — Wonderful Product!

*2026-06-27, version 1.100.8*

I’ve been using the RFX probes and Billows fan for the last year. I’ve done about 4 cooks. It’s been a breath of fresh air using the fan in particular. I no longer have to baby sit my cooks through the wee hours of the night. I do have to seal my WSM some to get full benefits, but even with the leaks, the temperature is manageable enough to get through the cook.

The probes are an essential element and I’m getting good connectivity throughout my cooks.

### 5/5 — RFX Gateway and Billows

*2026-06-27, version 1.100.8*

I’ve had this setup for a year now and have used it extensively. I use it with my Primo XL Oval and it’s made my barbecuing easy mode. I like the fact I can cook pulled pork overnight for family gatherings and have it ready by lunch the next day. I’ve recommended it to several friends. The peace of mind, knowing I’ll have steady temps all night has been a game changer.

I also like that it gets to whatever temp I want in ~30 minutes. I liked the wireless probe so much, I bought another.

### 4/5 — Frustratingly useless - one star is too high a rating.

*2026-06-21, version 1.100.8*

I wish I could review this based on it’s functionality and ease of use, due to an apparent oversight, when you attempt to add a RFX device, it shows a screen with instructions, but a next button that’s out of reach with no way of pressing it, as if it’s not scaled to fit the iPhone. Pretty dumb.

### 5/5 — The most amazing wireless thermometer ever!!

*2026-06-15, version 1.100.8*

I've had several wireless thermometers, including the one that they sell in a two pack at Costco that failed me trying to put it in the oven once. I've had this thing over fire, in the oven you name it!!! absolutely bulletproof and totally accurate!! I decided not to buy one at first came out because I thought it was kind of expensive. It's not the cheapest but by far the best this thing is amazing could not recommend a higher!!

### 2/5 — Probe issues

*2026-06-14, version 1.100.8*

Probes often don’t dissolve the temp on the Home Screen, I have to click each one. Very unreliable.

### 5/5 — Customer Service

*2026-06-14, version 1.100.8*

Best investment I have made in temperature reading technology. One issue with the probes when new and they replaced all four. No issues since and works perfectly. Use them every week.

### 5/5 — Possible Improvement...

*2026-06-11, version 1.100.8*

I love everything about this app and my meat RFX set up. The only thing I'd add is the ability to make a widget for iOS users. This would make it so much easier to check my cooks at a glance.

### 5/5 — Best thermometers you can buy

*2026-06-08, version 1.100.8*

I use and trust every thermometer or time piece to work correctly every time and be accurate. No junk. No missed alarms. No burned or undercooked food.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Worthless app

*2026-07-23, version 1.101.4*

ThermoWorks has great customer service, but other than that this system is terrible. My phone volume is on...alarm set to 150 degrees...and with no alarms I walk out to a 500 degree smoker. Stuff like this happens all the time. This time I don't see a reason. Other times it is due to a "focus" on the phone. Unlike other apps, this one has no design to work with the phone to ensure you get the notifications you need.

### 1/5 — Need an email to use but my device doesn’t show up

*2026-07-03, version 1.101.4*

Forcing me to create an account as neither of my emails exist apparently. The create a new account and my device is associated to another email address?

### 1/5 — Half baked app for great hardware

*2026-06-15, version 1.100.8*

I have been using my RFX for about a year now. Great hardware, but this app is seriously low effort. I wish i would have gone a different route with my wireless probe.
Tons of useless notifications, no widget.
Do yourself a favor and look for a probe that has an app that works.

### 1/5 — Alarm only works when app is in the foreground — Critical flaw

*2026-05-17, version 1.98.3*

The RFX hardware is excellent, but the app has a dealbreaking limitation: the alarm only produces sound when the app is actively open on screen. If the app is in the background or the screen is off, you get a silent banner notification — no sound, no haptics, nothing to actually alert you.

The app does not use iOS Critical Alerts, which means it cannot break through Focus modes or play sound reliably in the background. For a premium wireless thermometer that is 100% app-dependent, this is unacceptable. I’ve overcooked meat multiple times because I didn’t happen to be staring at my phone when the alert fired.
ThermoWorks needs to request Critical Alerts entitlement from Apple. This is exactly the use case Apple created it for.

Until then, you have to keep the app open and your screen on the entire cook — which defeats the purpose of a wireless thermometer.
Great product, broken alert system. Fix it and this is a 5-star app.

### 1/5 — Poor interface

*2026-04-15, version 1.98.3*

Indirect indication of the location of the sensing temperature. Where is exact location of ch1, ch2, ch3 ch4 and probe?
Simple use a diagram to point them out like MEATER.

Just showing the chief recommendation. Why not just clicking to select those temperature rather than input by myself manually.

Very very non user friendly design.

### 1/5 — What a waste of time.

*2025-12-26*

I’ve owned other Thermoworks products over the years and had a pretty good opinion of the company until now. I received the Smoke Gateway as a Christmas present and was excited to get it. The gateway allows the Smoke X4 to connect to the internet and app for greater functionality… I should say allegedly allows it to connect.

Per the company website, “Intuitive in-app setup walks you through pairing the Smoke Gateway to Smoke base unit…”. This statement couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve read other reviews about how bad this app and the gateway are; I thought they were just people who aren’t good with technology. I have no way of knowing their skill level but I know mine and of all the devices I’ve setup via a companion app or IFTTT over the years, this is the absolute worse. I’ve wasted hours on this thing. The setup in the app and the device do not align. They state over and over that this is a 2.4ghz only device, so I disabled the 5ghz on my router. Nope, the steps in the app will not setup the device, period.

The app and device are completely useless, so now I guess they want me to spend hours on hold for the privilege of speaking to their Support team. Who has time for that? This reeeeeally shouldn’t be that hard and anyone with some tech savvy should be able to set this up. Fix the app/product or take it off the market. This experience is terrible.

**Developer response:** It appears there may be some confusion regarding these products. Smoke X4 is a newer, standalone device and does not work with the ThermoWorks app or connect to the internet.

Smoke Gateway provides internet connectivity for the original Smoke model only. It is a separate product and is not compatible with Smoke X4.

We hope this helps clarify the differences. To ensure you select the product that best meets your needs, we recommend contacting our Tech Support team. They’ll be happy to answer any questions and help clear up any remaining confusion.

### 1/5 — Internet needlessly required

*2025-12-24, version 1.89.20*

Even though the RFX is capable of a direct Bluetooth connection to my phone, the temperature only reliably are shown if my phone has a reliable internet connection (either WiFi or cell). I assume it has to call home to the ThermoWorks servers for some reason, otherwise it just says trying to read. Either just bad/lazy app design, or they are intentionally crippling the product so they can collect data… either way what a needlessly poor experience.

### 1/5 — Color bands

*2025-12-17, version 1.89.20*

Can you please make the color band on the app for each probe bigger? And in general figure out some way to make it easier for us with four probes to keep track of them. There has to be a better answer than what you guys are doing. I’m really contemplating sending these back.

### 1/5 — Quit working

*2025-12-09, version 1.88.3*

It worked fine, until it suddenly didn’t. Two days in a row with the same problem - the app says the probes are “inactive”, but it tells me that the probe was “last seen” a few minutes ago. I spent an hour last night and got them working, but today it’s back to the same issue. Going to be looking for another brand to try.

### 1/5 — Poor design

*2025-11-28, version 1.88.3*

No idea how to use this app. No idea how channels work. No explanation in very limited instructions that came with unit (gateway and two probes). Both probes showed inactive during first use out of the box on Thanksgiving of course. Fully charged, gateway nearby, green light on (good wifi). Ended up using instant thermometer for two turkeys. Waste of $180.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Signals and Bellows

*2026-08-21, version 1.102.4*

I have owned this system for several years and used it for everything from frying a turkey to grilling a steak on a Kamado grill. I use it for temperature on the grill and on the meat. It has never failed me . I have had other temperature probes and systems but no compare to Thermoworks! It is the best!!

### 5/5 — Thermoworks RFX 6-Probe is the GOAT!

*2026-08-21, version 1.102.4*

I just used my brand new RFX 6-Probe for two pork butts. I only used four of the probes because I wanted to see the temperature differences. It is wild how spot on these are, and the do not lose connectivity to the gateway. The app is extremely user friendly. I’ve had a few thermometers in the past that I used for long smokes, and nothing comes close to the RFX!

### 5/5 — RFX simply the best

*2026-08-16, version 1.102.4*

I do a lot of Boston Butts, 30 at a time sometimes. I love how you can use more than one probe. I have the 4 probe and need to add more to my collection. It’s also great that you can use it through out the whole cook.

### 5/5 — Temp Node

*2026-08-11, version 1.102.4*

Works exactly as described!

I have used a ton of different meat thermometers. This is the best by far. Love it.

### 5/5 — Perfect cook every time.

*2026-07-19, version 1.101.4*

I use the smoke Gateway Wi-Fi bridge with my ThermoWorks smoke two probe monitor. I have not had a bad cook in years. Perfect temperature reported every time whether you're doing pork shoulders, drumsticks, brisket, etc.

Go for it!

### 5/5 — Moms rule
