## What is ThinkAloud Notes?

You think out loud. ThinkAloud writes it down.

Hit record and just talk: a passing idea, a meeting, a whole lecture. When you stop, you can play the recording back and decide whether it's worth keeping before anything happens to it. Only then does the on-device AI turn it into a real note, with a title, some structure, tags, and links to the related notes you already have.

Here's the part that matters. All of this happens on your phone. ThinkAloud runs Google's Gemma model locally, so your voice and your notes never get uploaded anywhere. There's no account to create, no server in the middle, and nothing to pay every month. You download the model once, and after that it works offline.

Your notes are just Markdown files in an ordinary folder, the same format Obsidian uses. Point ThinkAloud at a vault you already have, or let it keep one for you. Either way you can open, edit, or back them up with any app you like. Nothing is trapped inside.

- Voice, photos, or quick text go in; clean, tagged notes come out
- Ask your notes a question in plain language and get an answer with its sources listed, so you can tap straight through to where each fact came from
- A knowledge graph that builds itself as your notes start linking up
- Full-text search, tags, folders, and checklists

No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no accounts. I made ThinkAloud because I wanted a notebook that was actually mine. That's the whole idea.

Love that this runs and stores recordings and writings locally. It automatically summarizes, organizes and forms interesting connections across input thoughts and ideas. The coolest part is I can find themes in the way I think about things, how different areas relate to each other and newer ideas that emerge from disparate thoughts that are worth exploring. Way better than Obsidian since this app gives you more input flexibility. Highly recommend this app!

FASTER TRANSCRIPTION
• A dedicated on-device speech model (NVIDIA Parakeet) now transcribes recordings by default — dramatically faster and more accurate than before.
• Live transcription: watch your words appear as you speak, both for new notes and when adding a recording to an existing note.
• Speaker labels: multi-voice recordings show who said what.
• No more 1-minute limit when adding a recording to a note — speak as long as you like.
• Prefer the AI model? A Settings toggle transcribes with Gemma instead — slower, but supports non-English audio.

On-device AI just got smarter. New hybrid keyword + semantic retrieval makes Related links and search much more accurate, plus a new Think mode and a live model picker tuned to your device. Review recordings before they're processed, pin and share notes. This release also includes a large reliability and accessibility pass — fixing several rare data-loss edge cases and improving screen-reader support, large-text layout, and performance throughout. Everything stays 100% on your device.

### 1.01 — 2026-06-14

This update is mostly about trust and polish.

 The recording flow is the big one. After you stop, you can now play the take back and keep it or throw it away before the AI ever touches it, so a bad recording doesn't cost you anything. The screen also stays awake through long recordings and processing, which quietly fixes a lot of interrupted captures.

 Also new:
 - Notes look better everywhere. Voice notes show their waveform, photo notes show a thumbnail, and the home screen keeps your five most recent.
 - Your timeline stays put. Notes are now ordered by their own date, so turning on sync can't shuffle everything around.
 - Answers in Ask show their sources. Tap one to jump straight to the note it came from.
 - Folders got real. Browse into them, move notes between them, pin the ones you use to your home screen, and merge two notes into one.
 - You can reprocess any note with the AI if the first pass wasn't quite right, with an optional slower, more thorough pass in Settings.
 - A top-to-bottom accessibility pass: bigger tap targets, proper screen-reader labels, a reduced-motion option, and a confirm step before anything gets deleted.
 - Switching the on-device model is faster and no longer re-downloads one you already have.
 - Shared PDFs now show emoji correctly.
