### 3/5 — Cant active new vin

*2024-12-13, version 1.1.8*

Payment channel has been deactivate, pease

I can’t purchase new car activation

### 2/5 — Wouldn’t really recommend

*2021-05-24, version 1.1.7*

It was great at first now the app is so buggy that every time I try to do a diagnoses the app crashes

### 3/5 — Not all features are supported

*2020-09-10, version 1.1.6*

When reading the app data on the dash it doesn’t provide voltage or mil status. Blue tooth connection between the OBDII attachment and phone can take more than a few tries to connect. Ive had this for a year and still no fixes.
It’s a good product just wish all the functions I paid for operated as advertised.
2006 E90 BMW 330i.

### 2/5 — It’s ok

*2020-09-09, version 1.1.6*

Doenst work on a 2002 f150 and never stops trying to sell you other products or software

### 2/5 — Not compatible with ford ranger 2002

*2020-07-19, version 1.1.6*

Says can't find vin

### 4/5 — Waiting for real-time diagnostics

*2019-11-15, version 1.1.3*

I have had a ThinkCar since they launched but I’m still waiting for real-time diagnostic

### 3/5 — Improving

*2019-11-05, version 1.1.3*

This company got off to a rough start but it was clear they’re working hard to fill the potholes discovered when they launched. With the challenged launch they promised a reward for early adopters to offset problems and mine arrived in the mail today.

### 2/5 — Poorly written app very buggy

*2019-10-13, version 1.1.2*

First of all this app is very buggy and there are many fake reviews for this just read them they haven’t even received the device so how can they try the app? Thinkcar only works with cars 2005 and newer which doesn’t follow the OBD2 standard and isn’t disclosed on the Kickstarter or the website. App needs work for sure. Make sure all permissions allowed including location so that the app works correctly

### 2/5 — Largely unusable

*2019-09-17, version 1.1.1*

Are a lot of bugs to work out, to the point that I could only get the dashboard showing speed, run time, load, etc. to work. None of the scans would complete. They all failed with an error complaining about internet connectivity despite being on a strong WiFi or 4G connection. Downloading the firmware update worked, but it immediately failed to apply and displayed a generic error. Updating the Bluetooth didn’t even download. Instead, the app simply crashed.

Being one of the initial Kickstarter supporters, I was given a code for a year’s subscription. That doesn’t seem to be reflected in the app despite claiming it soon after registration. Speaking of registration, the app is not very password manager-friendly. It appears to clear your clipboard when setting your initial password. If you have your password manager generate a strong password and save it to your clipboard, save the password in your password manager *before* pasting it to the app during registration or password changes. In regards to passwords, they appear to be limited to around 20 characters. If you generate a large password outside of the app’s maximum size, it won’t complain but rather truncate your pasted in password and set it. I hope you paid attention to where the password was truncated.

Overall, there is promise, but also a lot of work ahead. I’ll update this review as the app experience changes.

### 1/5 — Unable to create account

*2019-08-23, version 1.0.0*

Unable to create account as it requires a verification number but no way to get one through the app or on the website.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No support

*2025-07-22, version 1.1.8*

Bought the ThinkCar 1s when it barely came out as a kickfund and now I’m told you can’t use it cause it’s outdated. Never buy one of these products. It won’t work for long

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-04-14, version 1.1.8*

Can’t connect to bluetooth. Useless. Don’t waste money on this crap.

### 1/5 — Poor value

*2021-03-23, version 1.1.7*

Don’t Waste your money on this.

They charge you for every car in addition to the module.

Poor support

### 1/5 — So slow. Buy a dedicated scantool.

*2021-03-04, version 1.1.7*

This thing is for the birds. Maybe connects 1/4 of the time. When it does, updates are required, then if you are lucky enough to get into the app, codes clear and retrieve are the only benefit to this thing. Data stream is too slow to be useful and the pids are minimal.
Buy a cheap launch scantool if you’re actually interested in doing anything of a diagnostic.

### 1/5 — Bad News

*2020-11-29, version 1.1.6*

From day one device told me my car was 5 years newer than actuality with different specs. No customer service they do not respond. After 90 days you need to pay fee or unit & software is useless. Save your $

### 1/5 — Never got to run diag tool

*2020-01-29, version 1.1.5*

Just received my unit and tried to run on my 2010 Mini Cooper. I went into the full diagnostics tool and it said that the software needed to update but fails on file unzipping after downloading. The app won’t let me proceed any further. I will re-review if support gets me up and running.

### 1/5 — Unable to update software - Refund Please

*2020-01-28, version 1.1.5*

This dongle was advertised heavily on YouTube. It won’t read any codes because the app tried several times to update the software for a better user experience. The software won’t update. The dongle is junk.

### 1/5 — Can't get a confirmation email

*2020-01-08, version 1.1.4*

I'm trying to set up my reader but the send verification button isn't working/ isn't sending an email so I'm unable to use it at all... Please help

### 1/5 — They charge money for adding more cars !!

*2019-11-27, version 1.1.3*

Not really worth the money if you think about it I have 5 cars they want $10 for each additional car to add for diagnostics plus the yearly $10 subscription so in real life they are charging you $10 if you want to diagnostic for you friends car check engine light that auto zone and pep boys does it for free ! Kickstart wasn’t mentioned this information they tricked the customers in order to buy this crap for personal use not worth it ! For business use as mechanic it makes sense completely for $10 you can pass down to customers but for me Bludriver could be better option.

### 1/5 — No WiFi

*2019-10-14, version 1.1.2*

Does not pair with WiFi based OBD readers - only Bluetooth.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2022-08-02, version 1.1.8*

The app is most of all of them first off sharper and faster

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2020-06-09, version 1.1.6*

My only complaint with the app is that there is no icon for the app when being used on an iPad.

### 5/5 — A money saver

*2020-02-24, version 1.1.5*

You hear people say “knowledge is power”. Well that’s what you get with this device. It has saved me hundreds of dollars and avoid shady mechanics.
One of the best tools for the diy Person.

### 5/5 — The best!

*2020-02-24, version 1.1.5*

2 separate top car repair guys on U tube both rated this high!! I used tech support once. I got quick accurate, polite help. It was an error on my part. I recently did a break repair. Scanned the bar code on the door pulled up all the data. I was able to easily reset a ABS and a brake light fault. This will give you service builtins for you vehicle. Don’t waste your time with other scan tools. This is easy to use, more powerful than most. I wouldn’t waste my time researching again. if I lost this tool. I’d buy it again!

### 5/5 — Simply Awesome

*2019-09-18, version 1.1.1*

This is a great app and they have great support. They made sure all my issues are resolved. Highly Recommend.

### 5/5 — Nice product

*2019-09-17, version 1.1.0*

Very easy to use and the function is what I need

### 5/5 — Revolutionary product

*2019-08-26, version 1.0.0*

So excited to the product and the app! I believe that it’s a revolutionary OBD II scan tool. Can’t wait to use it

### 5/5 — Excited about this. Will update soon

*2019-08-23, version 1.0.0*

Based on what I’ve seen and heard, I’m really excited about this. Still waiting for my adapter to get sent. Expect an updated review soon hopefully....

### 4/5 — Good Value for price, not great

*2020-06-13, version 1.1.6*

Net: probably great for front yard mechanics with conventional cars. For hybrid owners, it provides insight into your issues, but without the same level of diagnostic functionality.
This thing is well worth the money if you have a modest understanding of cars and are having a maintenance issue with the engine electronics.
If you have a hybrid, it's still useful, but (my sense is that) the engine turning on and off confuses ThinkCar, even to the point where it can't pull the VIN. It can pull & reset engine codes OK, but the data streams are almost always recorded as a permanent loop of the same short patterns.

### 4/5 — Great little OBD2

*2019-12-31, version 1.1.4*

Not only will it read OBD codes it can do health report of all the vehicle's modules.
