Not only is the app not giving me the May 2019 version, but the app developer and publisher are pointing fingers at each other for who is to blame rather than just fixing the problem. ### 1/5 — Rip off *2019-04-07, version 13.0* Sighted up. The people at tech support just give up on helping. I have called This Old House folks and they say it is the app that is causing the problem. Episodes constantly freeze, or worse yet, won’t play at all. Suddenly I am no longer auto-renewed, my previous purchases are no longer available and there is no option to write and find out what’s going on. When went to App Store and discovered this POS replaced the original app. Don't like the format. No warning of the change? Poor form. Now it won't even start, just a black screen with TOH written in middle. Customer service sends scripted help desk replies which don’t address the issue. Tell me if I’m wrong? If I have an active print subscription I should be able to log on and download the digital app issue for free. Keeps asking for $4.99 an issue! Worked flawlessly up until a year ago! ### 1/5 — Review of This Old House magazine *2023-06-16* I have been unable to get the last 2 issues on my app. I’ve removed the app, reloaded it, sighed in and nothing works. I’ve contacted TOH. Department that handles the downloaded issue and they have not resolved the issues what so ever. So I’m very disappointed in TOH. Not being able to resolve the problem ### 1/5 — Crummy and difficult to use *2021-08-29* The app continues to be buggy - currently won’t let me open the newest issue and wants me to pay for it, even though I am already a monthly subscriber. Disappointing and just about ready to cancel and move on. ### 1/5 — Awful app! *2020-09-04, version 20.0* The latest issue arrived in the app yesterday but this has to be the worst idea ever: You swipe left to right to find ads and stories, then to read a story you have to scroll DOWN. Then you have to scroll back to the top to scroll over to the next story. There aren’t even page numbers or a way to favorite a story for reading later, such as a few months from now. Emailed their “problems logging in?” Tech support a few months ago but never received a reply. ### 1/5 — Annoying, I’ll not bother *2019-11-18* Somethings not clicking with the subscription. It asks if I would like a free trial so I give it a try, sign up and download the magazine app from App Store. Seems to work OK I download an issue and look through it briefly and look forward to returning when I have time. Well, now when returning, IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE MY EMAIL ADDRESS!!!! Probably something I’m doing wrong but don’t care to dig into it. I cancelled the trial. Print is too small anyway and it’s cumbersome to get around in. Probably need to buy old issues if want to view older articles found via searches anyhow. Not worth the hassle. ### 1/5 — No longer works *2019-09-27* App no longer recognizes paid print/digital subscription after update. ### 1/5 — App does not work *2019-09-05* Had paid for both access to the app and magazine for TOH but for the last 3 weeks have not been able to log into the app. I have emailed both the publisher and app developer regarding this issue. They both confirmed my account access, email address and zip, yet can’t identify why I get “email not found” when logging into the app. Developer said try without entering a zip but still no resolution. What is also frustrating is that it’s taking days for the developer to response back to me. ### 1/5 — APP not working at all. *2019-06-03, version 13.0* I just joined a year of subscription with this APP and it’s asking me to open my APP ACCT inputting my ACCT number and my zip code to unlock but I never got an ACCT number or never gave my zip code. I especially love the Idea homes being featured ### 5/5 — OMG, Another Screw Up *2018-12-06* Good thing these app developers don’t build things like houses. If they did we’d all die. It would be hard to do a worse job of rolling out an updated app than the these guys did the last time, but they succeeded in making it worse. Yet again, as a print subscriber, I CANNOT log in and all my back issues disappeared. FAQ page is WORTHLESS if current subscribers CANNOT LOG IN. Jeeezus dudes, hire a 14 year old and figure this out. ### 5/5 — Worst app ever *2018-11-29, version 8.3* Worst app ever ### 5/5 — A great app *2017-03-14* I really love the This Old House app. It's clean and simple and I enjoy reading all the stories and tips on my iPad. Plus I get the app version before my print subscription comes in the mail. The only drawback is that I can't read it in the tub! I've been a fan of the show and magazine for years and am glad to see they're keeping up with the times. I just recently added my iPad sub and haven't been having any of the problems people have indicated in other reviews. It downloads and reads just fine. I love having the digital version with my subscription so I can view it from my iPad or my living room. Thank you, once again, This Old House! ### 4/5 — New and improved! *2017-02-27, version 1.0* Initially, It was a bit confiusing as you had to download the new app, but I did receive a notification about it in the old app telling me I needed to go and download the new app. Once I did that and was able to log in, it's been great. I see some peaople are complaning about not being able to log in and having problems with access to past issues, but I was able to call the customer service number (800-898-7237) and they were able to help me log in and granted me access to past issues. ### 3/5 — Please add Insider Access to Apple TV app *2019-08-10* Love the access to the magazine, but it would be awesome to have access to the Insider subscription to be able to watch all the episodes on the Apple TV rather than having to use airplay to watch them. ### 3/5 — Works for me! *2016-10-15, version 1.0* The app is good, I do miss the extras from the previous app. I hope once a few months go by some extras will be added. I have not experienced the problems others are having with accounts. I recommend logging into the TOH website and setup your subscription account with an email address and password, as you cannot enter the account number to connect the subscription. ### 2/5 — Doesn’t like print subscriptions logons *2024-02-16* I have struggled to use this app for quite some time. The login with my print subscription account data used to work fine through 2021. Now I have to use some sort of extreme measures to get it to work and then I’m only able to read the current issue, and the former downloads no longer stay active in my account.
