## What is Threads count?

Threads count is a row counter for people whose hands are full of yarn.

The app is built for real knitting and crochet sessions: quick to open, easy to read from across the table, and useful when you are working from a pattern.

Version 2.2 adds Yarn Runway: a loop-perimeter yarn planner that totals project pieces against your stash, remaining skeins, and a live “will this yarn last?” verdict. Open it from the Runway button on the project counter.

Ways to count:

- Big tap counter: tap the large counting surface to advance, long-press to undo, and use haptics to keep rhythm without staring at the screen.
- Action Button and Shortcuts: advance, undo, or switch counters from Shortcuts on supported iPhones.
- Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, StandBy, and widgets: keep the current row visible outside the app.
- Multiple counters: track rows, repeats, decreases, sleeves, panels, or any other count inside one project.

Pattern-aware tools:

- Yarn Runway: plan pieces, total yardage against stash, and see remaining skeins on the counter.
- Pattern Navigator: paste row notes such as "Row 12: begin shaping" and Threads count shows the matching instruction on the counter screen as you advance.
- Repeat tracking: set an 8-row, 12-row, or chart repeat and see the row inside the current repeat.
- Row reminders: add one-time or recurring reminders for color changes, shaping, lifelines, or measuring.
- Gauge & Cast-On calculator: turn a 4-inch swatch into cast-on counts, row counts, gauge substitutions, shaping instructions, and rough yarn planning.

Project tools:

- Track project photos, notes, targets, and completion status.
- Log timed sessions and see rows-per-hour and minutes-per-day charts.
- Keep a yarn stash and needle or hook inventory on-device.
- Work offline with no account, no subscription, no ads, and no analytics.

Threads count runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. Action Button use requires supported hardware and a Shortcut assignment in Settings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-08-18

Version 2.2 adds Yarn Runway: a loop-perimeter yarn planner that totals pieces against your stash, remaining skeins, and a live will-this-yarn-last verdict on the counter. Open it from the Runway button on the project screen. Pattern Navigator, repeats, reminders, widgets, and gauge math remain.

### 2.1 — 2026-06-30

Pattern Navigator for real projects.

- Paste row notes such as "Row 12: begin shaping" into project settings.
- The counter screen now shows the matching row instruction as you advance.
- Keeps pattern cues, reminders, repeat tracking, timer stats, yarn stash, tools, and gauge math fully offline.
- Updated App Store copy and support pages to describe the current workflow clearly.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-24

Threads count 2.0 — a big pro upgrade for makers, still 100% offline.

• Session timer: track your time per project, with stats, rows/hour, and a daily chart.
• Yarn stash: catalog your yarn by weight and color with total-yardage rollups.
• Needle & hook inventory: track every tool with mm/US size conversion and "in use" status.
• Even-shaping calculator: "decrease/increase N stitches evenly" worked out as a pattern instruction.
• Project photos: add a work-in-progress photo to each project.
• Yarn planning: yardage and skein estimates for your next make.

No account, no network — everything stays on your device.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-19

What's New - Threads count

1.3 (build 7)

Threads count goes pattern-aware - without becoming a spreadsheet.

- Repeat tracking. Set a repeat length on any counter (an 8-row repeat, a
12-row chart) and Threads count shows the row inside the current repeat and how
  many repeats you've finished - "Row 3 of 8 · rep 6" - with a distinct haptic at
the top of every repeat. The repeat summary shows on the counter screen, the
Lock Screen Live Activity, and the home-screen and Lock Screen widgets.
- Row reminders. Add notes that fire when you reach a row - "change to color B
on row 24" - or on a recurring interval - "decrease every 6 rows." They appear
as a banner on the counter screen and on the Lock Screen Live Activity, and are
spoken aloud when you advance hands-free from the Action Button.
- Gauge & Cast-On calculator. A new fully-offline tool: enter your 4-inch
swatch gauge and a desired finished width and length to get the cast-on stitch
count, the number of rows to knit, and a rough yarn-yardage range. A second
section re-maps a designer's stitch count to your own gauge so you can resize a
  pattern to your tension.

Everything new works offline and stores nothing off your device.

Marketing copy (App Store "What's New" field)

Threads count goes pattern-aware - without becoming a spreadsheet.

- Repeat tracking: set a repeat length and see the row inside the current repeat plus how many repeats you've finished, with a buzz at the top of each one.
- Row reminders: "change color on row 24" or "decrease every 6 rows" - the app warns you on the right row, even from the Action Button.
- Gauge & Cast-On calculator: turn a swatch and a finished size into a cast-on count, row count, and yarn estimate, fully offline.

Release notes for reference

- MARKETING_VERSION 1.3, CURRENT_PROJECT_VERSION 7 (build kept monotonic above the
live 1.2 build, which was 6).
- New persisted model: `RowReminder` (one-time row + recurring interval). New
`Counter.repeatLength` attribute (0 = off). Additive, lightweight SwiftData
migration - existing projects open with repeats off and no reminders.
- New unit-test target `ThreadcountTests` (host-app tests) covering the repeat
math, reminder firing, and the gauge/cast-on calculator.

Earlier

1.2 (build 6)
- Added an optional Keep Screen Awake setting for long counting sessions.
- The setting only prevents auto-lock while Threads count is open and active.

### 1.2 — 2026-05-30

Added an optional Keep Screen Awake setting for long counting sessions. It only prevents auto-lock while Threads count is open and active.
