## What is Thrive?

Everything a budgeting app should do. None of what they usually take.

No bank logins · No servers · Nothing collected

Most budgeting apps start by asking for your bank username and password, then pass them to a data company you never chose. Thrive does neither. There is no bank connection to make, no aggregator in the middle, and no credential of yours anywhere in the app.

Your money stays on your device. If you use a Mac and an iPhone, it syncs through your own iCloud account — yours, not ours. There is no Thrive account to create, no Thrive server holding your budget, and nothing for us to lose, sell, or be asked to hand over. Your device is the database.

Your spending history is the most revealing document you own. It shows where you go, who you pay, what you are treating, and what you are carrying. Thrive is built for people who would rather keep it.

Be faithful with what you've been given.

Zero-based budgeting, built on a simple conviction: the money isn't ultimately ours to hoard — it's ours to steward well. Give every dollar a job, know exactly where you stand, and plan for the people and purposes that matter most.

So how does it see your spending? Two ways, neither of them typing.

Download your transaction history from your bank — the same export you can already do from your account — and open it in Thrive. Every line is parsed and sorted into a budget category on your own device, showing you where the month actually went. Seconds, not an evening of data entry. The file is read where it sits and never leaves; there is no Thrive server to send it to.

Or let Thrive read the transaction alerts your bank already emails you, so spending stays current between statements without you doing anything at all.

FREE — everything you need to run the month
• Zero-based budgeting: income minus every job equals zero.
• Statement import (CSV, OFX/QFX, PDF) and email alert scanning, both categorized on arrival.
• Group by parent category, set sinking funds for irregular bills, and match your plan to reality in a tap.
• Emergency fund tracking with a target and a fund-the-gap plan.
• Debt payoff with a clear, dated burndown.
• Giving goals with a target and a deadline, tracked and built into your budget.

There is no trial clock on any of that. It does not expire.

PREMIUM — planning further out
• Retirement projections from your real holdings.
• Children's savings for every account type, with growth projections.
• Real estate, mortgage, and equity tracking.
• Big purchases, planned and funded before you buy.
• A year-in-review that answers the questions that matter.
• Household sharing — invite your spouse from their own Apple ID and you both see the same plan. Two Apple IDs, no shared password, no per-seat fee.

Private by design

Our App Privacy label reads "Data Not Collected," because there is nothing to collect. No ads, no analytics, no data brokers, no profile of you anywhere. Your budget is shared only with the household member you choose, and only through Apple's own sharing.

Thrive is for informational and educational purposes and is not personalized financial, investment, or tax advice.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2026.8.1 — 2026-08-25

Zero-based budgeting that never asks for a bank login. Same mission -

AN ANNUAL PLAN, 32% BELOW MONTHLY

Thrive Premium is now $65 a year alongside the $8 a month. Same modules either way, and the zero-based budget itself stays free permanently — not a trial.

YOUR SAFETY NET KEEPS GROWING AFTER YOU REACH IT

The emergency fund chart flattened at your target. A fully funded net looked like it had stopped earning, and the "what if you saved more" slider did nothing at all. The line now keeps climbing on interest once you're there — because at that point the question stops being "when am I funded?" and starts being "how big is the cushion?"

BIG PURCHASES NO LONGER ASKS FOR A FUND YOU ALREADY FILLED

Your emergency fund could read fully funded on its own screen while Big Purchases still told you to finish it first. Two screens were reading two different numbers: one counted the contributions you had assigned but no statement had confirmed, the other didn't. They agree now, and your target is whatever you set — there is no three-month rule underneath it.

RETIREMENT, COLLEGE AND THE HOUSE RUN TOGETHER

Clearing debt and filling the emergency fund really are one at a time. The three that follow are not — they run for decades and they are funded from the same surplus. Once the first two are done, the dashboard shows all three, names the ones that are behind in priority order, and says so plainly when every one of them is on track.

A BUDGET LINE THAT TELLS YOU WHAT IT SHOULD BE

Adding a category used to be a row of name chips and an empty amount box. Now every category in the group is listed with what you have actually been spending there over three months, and you can take that figure or type your own. Creating your own category is its own button, and giving follows the Giving group rather than a checkbox on any line.

Your statements never leave your device. No bank logins, no servers, nothing collected.

Be faithful with what you've been given.

### 1.109 — 2026-08-21

Zero-based budgeting that never asks for a bank login. Same mission — a faster way in, and the one number that wasn't holding up its end.

SETUP IS THREE SCREENS NOW, NOT FIVE

The old first run opened with two screens of reading before you could do anything. Now it opens where the work is: bring your statements — bank, retirement, 529, savings, mortgage — in one go, and Thrive files each one where it belongs. Connecting email dropped from four steps to two.

YOUR CARD BALANCE NOW COUNTS YOUR PAYMENTS

If you pay your card from checking, Thrive wasn't seeing it. The payment sat on the checking side of the ledger, so the card read "nothing paid yet" and went on adding up every charge since your very first import. That isn't a statement balance, it's a lifetime total — which is why your card app said one thing and Thrive said another. Thrive was wrong.

Payments now close the cycle no matter which account they were filed against. If a card has been reading far too high, open it: the balance should agree with your issuer today.

FIX A CATEGORY WHERE YOU NOTICE IT

Tap any spending group or merchant during setup to see every charge inside it, and re-file them one at a time or all at once. A wrong guess used to be visible but unreachable.

MOVE MONEY TO THE EMERGENCY FUND, AND WATCH IT MOVE

Assign a contribution straight from the budget category, the way Retirement already worked. The account now shows what's been assigned but not yet confirmed by a statement, so the fund total and the account beneath it agree.

ALSO FIXED

The sinking-cost editor no longer wraps "Every" one letter to a line. Start Over and Wipe All Data are reachable in Settings again. The Outlook app-password help link went dead and now works.

Your statements never leave your device. No bank logins, no servers, nothing collected.

Be faithful with what you've been given.

### 1.108 — 2026-08-20

FIXED: BILLS ON AUTOPAY WERE MISSING FROM YOUR SPENDING

If a bill came in with "autopay" in the description — a utility, an insurance premium, a mortgage — Thrive filed it as a transfer between your own accounts instead of as spending. The money left, but the month's total did not count it, so your surplus looked larger than it was.

Every affected bill now counts. Your Out total and anything built on it may go up, and that figure is the correct one. Worth a look at the last month or two if you pay bills automatically.

### 1.107 — 2026-08-20

GIVE SOMEONE EVERY NUMBER AND NO CONTROLS
Household sharing now has a view-only member. They see the same live plan you do — budget, retirement, the children's savings, property and debts — and cannot change any of it. For a spouse who would rather just watch, or a teenager you are teaching. Settings → Household states plainly what access each device has, so nobody has to guess.
YOUR PRIORITIES NOW SHOW THEIR PROGRESS
Each step on the dashboard carries a ring for how close you are, and a bolt when money is going at it this month. Green means the plan is working, amber means it needs attention, and a warning means there is no goal to measure against yet — with the module telling you exactly which one is missing when you tap through.
SET A PAYOFF DATE FOR YOUR HOUSE
In Real Estate, move the extra-payment slider until the date looks realistic, then make it your goal. Thrive tracks whether you are on plan and puts the house on the dashboard beside everything else.
EVERY GOAL CAN FUND ITSELF
Set a target and Thrive offers to add the monthly amount to your budget — on the right line. Extra principal lands on your mortgage line, where that money actually goes. A goal with nothing behind it is a wish with a date on it.
YOUR HOME'S VALUE, WITHOUT TYPING IT IN
Thrive can now read the monthly home estimate Redfin or Zillow already emails you, and offer it for your property. It never changes the value on its own — an estimate is an opinion, and two services can disagree by six figures on the same house — so you see the number, who said it, and you decide.
TAG A TRANSFER TO THE FUND IT WAS FOR
Moved money into savings for your emergency fund? Assign it, and the fund total moves with it. Thrive stops counting it the moment your statement catches up, so the same deposit is never counted twice.
AN ACCOUNT FOR PARENTS WHO WANT NEITHER A 529 NOR A UGMA
Children's savings now offers a plain brokerage option — for growing money for a child without a 529's spending restrictions or a UGMA's handover at eighteen.
SMALLER THINGS THAT WERE BOTHERING US
One retirement number everywhere: the dashboard and the Retirement module could show two different targets for the same household, because each applied its own inflation assumption. Merging vendors actually merges them in your by-vendor budget, and the monthly comparison now appears when you spent less than usual, not only when you overspent. The month card says plainly when your income is not yet fully assigned, and how much still needs a job.
Also fixed: a launch crash for anyone carrying a duplicated account; planned income and contribution assignments that could disagree between two phones in the same household; a checking balance on the Emergency Fund module that disagreed with the dashboard; and a year-in-review that treated additional savings as though the money had gone somewhere else.

### 1.106 — 2026-08-14

Share your plan with the person you share your life with.

Invite your spouse from Apple's own share sheet — no link to paste, no password between you. You each keep your own Apple ID, and the whole plan crosses: budget, retirement, the children's savings, property and debts.

New — view-only members. Give someone every number and no controls: a spouse who would rather just see it, or a teenager you are teaching. They see the same live plan, and the changes stay yours.

YOUR PRIORITIES NOW SHOW THEIR PROGRESS
Each step on the dashboard carries a ring for how close you are to that goal, and a bolt when money is going at it this month. Green means the plan is working, yellow means it needs attention, and a warning means there is no goal to measure against yet — with the module telling you exactly which one is missing.

SET A PAYOFF DATE FOR YOUR HOUSE
In Real Estate, drag the extra-payment slider until the date looks realistic, then make it your goal. Thrive tracks whether you are on plan and puts the house on the dashboard beside everything else.

EVERY GOAL CAN FUND ITSELF
Set a target and Thrive offers to add the monthly amount to your budget — because a goal with nothing behind it is a wish with a date on it.

CLEARER ZERO-BASED BUDGETING
The month card now says plainly when your income is not fully assigned, and how much still needs a job.

Fixes: a launch crash for anyone carrying a duplicated account; planned income and contribution assignments that could disagree between two phones in the same household.
