### 1/5 — Ghost leads and terrible refund policy

*2026-08-21, version 469.0*

I rarely hear back from leads, even after getting my response time down to 2 minutes. They recently updated their refund policy but it only applies if the customer does not respond to ANY pro they contact, not just you. Usually, they are contacting 4-6 pros at a time.

### 1/5 — Not fair for contractors

*2026-08-20, version 469.0*

Each lead goes to at least 5-6 other top local contractors. It really just isn’t fair. And the lead prices are out of control (especially given the competitive odds) because the market has become so saturated. The acquisition by Angie’s list was the kiss of death

### 3/5 — So expensive

*2026-08-20, version 469.0*

Im okay paying for the leads but it feels like predatory at times. Because app is charging you depending on how many pieces clients need but if its 5 chairs you will be making $160 and thumbtack charging you $50+ for the lead itself only. And there are 2-3 other pros paying that too so you have %25 chance to get that job anyway.

### 1/5 — Not impressed at all!!

*2026-08-20, version 469.0*

I paid $18 dollars for 1 client that isn’t even guaranteed! And I didn’t get the job so I lost my $18 dollars! I do NOT recommend this app, because the clients aren’t guaranteed. It’s just a waste of time and money.

### 3/5 — Glitches

*2026-08-20, version 469.0*

Thumbtack has helped me grow my business, which I am very thankful for. However the app has many glitches, sometimes I don’t get notified when I get a lead, which made me lose a couple. The app is glitchy. Also messages don’t pop up as most recent, so I find myself having to scroll down to see that a customer messaged me. Most importantly, the new thumbtack numbers are bogus. Makes it much harder for pros to actually contact customers and customers also get confused very easily with this new process!! It’s a headache that I shouldn’t have to be dealing with. Please fix these glitches and please just give the customer my actual number vise versa. You guys are very expensive but are the reason why my business got its foot in the door so I’m thankful for that.

### 1/5 — Not worth it! SCAM!

*2026-08-19, version 469.0*

Thumbtack Pro has been one of the worst lead services I’ve used. You spend more and more money on terrible leads, and I’d say 80% of the customers either don’t respond, don’t follow through, or are just shopping for the absolute cheapest price.

On top of that, Thumbtack puts you against multiple other skilled trade professionals for the same lead, so you’re paying just for the opportunity to fight tooth and nail over a job that’s already being lowballed. Half the time you feel pressured to take a terrible job just to try to make back the money you already wasted buying leads.

The customer service hasn’t made the experience any better either. The entire system feels designed to make Thumbtack money off contractors whether we actually get the job or not.

If you’re a skilled tradesperson who values your time, experience, and money, stay away. There are much better ways to spend your advertising budget.

### 1/5 — scam likely

*2026-08-19, version 469.0*

this app will charge you for “leads” that will never respond to you. they just want to take your money. the leads are all fabricated. dont be fooled by these con artists

### 1/5 — Customer service for pros

*2026-08-18, version 469.0*

The customer service for the pros is absolutely horrendous. Their policies and procedures safety and privacy is a joke. They lie through emails have private conversations through personal emails. Do what they can to stop your business from running on their platform. They make up rules as they go along and are unable to answer any direct questions that are asked to them. You cannot get anybody on the phone to have a professional business conversation with him because they hide behind emails that repeatedly ignore the issue at hand this single out individual companies.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2026-08-18, version 469.0*

I was charged about $188 for eight leads without getting a single job. Thumbtack charges professionals automatically for direct leads, even when they don’t respond to or accept the request. When I requested a refund, they denied it and only gave me a one-time account credit instead of returning the money to my card. The automatic charging system and “unlimited budget” setting were not clear to me. Pros should be warned clearly before every charge and given more control over which leads they accept and pay for.

### 1/5 — Fake leads

*2026-08-18, version 469.0*

This app requires you to pay for leads and sends a bunch of leads that I swear are fake. The “leads” almost always cancel or just don’t respond. Horrible waste of money. Such a scam

### 1/5 — Extremely disappointed

*2026-08-17, version 469.0*

Extremely disappointed with Thumbtack. I was charged for leads while my calendar was BLOCKED and I was unavailable. One lead even had a response deadline while my availability was closed.

I contacted support and they still refused to refund me. Thumbtack is charging professionals for leads they cannot reasonably accept. In my opinion, this is unfair and feels like stealing money from hard-working professionals.

Be very careful using this platform and monitor your charges closely.

### 2/5 — It’s ok

*2026-08-17, version 468.0*

I don’t like my budget only being met late in the week consistently with leads. Wish you had time to manage a lead as opposed to them generating $200 themselves sending it 3 competitors. I did not enjoy the conversion rate and I didn’t have any bad reviews. You should have time to manage a lead instead of just mass blasting to competitors

### 4/5 — Leads need to tighten up on competitors shopping the leads andvrunningbupbrhevthreshikd

*2026-08-17, version 468.0*

Other than that when it’s a real leads it’s pretty good

### 1/5 — Too expensive and not user friendly

*2026-08-16, version 468.0*

Paying for leads is a scam. But I would share a commission for jobs landed. Also, I want to delete my account that isn’t finished being set up so I don’t receive one text every month or so with a customer inquiry. There no obvious way for me to do that.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — They are crooks

*2026-08-25, version 470.0*

Dont do the direct leed they will just take an unnecessary amount of $$$ from you & try and get jobs for you that you dont do & or a client that never responds. Its a big scam

### 1/5 — Horrible Lead Service

*2026-08-25, version 470.0*

They charge way too much for leads. They also don’t follow their own refund policies. Some people are just “shopping around” for pros on various websites and we get shafted by people who ghost the pros. I’ve had multiple leads ghost all the pros for more than 72 hours and Thumbtack keeps the money anyways. Borderline scam.

### 1/5 — Terrible for business owners

*2026-08-25, version 470.0*

I got Thumbtack to fill in space that I didn’t have work. Usually how it goes is I get charged $40-$50 for a low profit job. Usually these leads that you just paid $50 for are sent to multiple different people and at that point it is a race to the bottom and whoever does it for the cheapest. A lot of times I get contacted by people who don’t even follow up, and I spend $50 for a lead who didn’t even use us. Not worth your value, you’ll end up paying more than what you make.

### 1/5 — Extremely disappointed this is a scam

*2026-08-23, version 469.0*

As a Pro, I’m extremely disappointed with Thumbtack. The lead costs are way too expensive, and you can be charged even when a customer contacts you but never responds or never actually becomes a customer.

What is even more frustrating is trying to get a refund for leads that clearly did not result in a real opportunity. Thumbtack often gives excuses for denying refunds, while the Pro is left paying the cost.

As a small business owner, these charges add up quickly. We are already paying for our time, fuel, equipment, insurance, and other business expenses. Paying high prices for leads that go nowhere is simply not sustainable.

Thumbtack needs to do a better job protecting its Pros. If a customer does not respond, the lead is invalid, or there is no genuine opportunity to do the job, Pros should not automatically lose their money.

I hope Thumbtack starts listening to the Pros who are paying the bills and makes the lead and refund system much more fair and transparent.

### 1/5 — Never been more upset

*2026-08-23, version 469.0*

I would run not walk away from this company as fast as possible. They do not care about people they care about money. If I was a shareholder, I would take every dime I have invested in head for the hills.

### 1/5 — Prays on ignorance

*2026-08-22, version 469.0*

This app doesn’t explain how the auto bidding works, then charges you for job leads you can’t even do because you don’t have the right license which the app doesn’t care about. This app enables people to do jobs they don’t have the proper license or permits to do which is illegal.

### 1/5 — Refunds Disappear With No Explanation

*2026-08-22, version 469.0*

Very frustrating experience with Thumbtack Pro. My account shows two approved refunds totaling $23, but I have never actually seen or been able to use that credit. New leads continue to be charged directly to my card, and there is no clear account balance or transaction history showing where the refunded money went.

If Thumbtack says a refund was credited to my account, I should be able to see the credit, see the balance, and see exactly how it was used. Instead, the billing system is confusing and lacks transparency. Support should also make it much easier to reach a real person when there is a billing issue.

### 1/5 — Leads are too expensive and the support team doesn’t help the pros.

*2026-08-22, version 469.0*

Worst possible way to make a way out to make better money or make money at all. If you’d like to lose your time and money then Thumtack will speed up the process

### 1/5 — Price

*2026-08-21, version 469.0*

Most customers are just messaging to get a price, but unfortunately, Thumbtack still charges us for every lead. It’s really difficult to work under these conditions.

### 1/5 — Professionals deserve better than this

*2026-08-21, version 469.0*

As a small business owner, I find Thumbtack’s lead system extremely disappointing. I’m being charged for “direct leads” from customers who never read my response, never reply, and show no meaningful engagement after submitting a request.

I fully understand that paying for a lead does not guarantee a booked job. That is not the issue. The issue is charging professionals substantial amounts for leads that appear to have little to no genuine intent to communicate or hire.

When I contacted Thumbtack about the repeated pattern and asked for my recent paid leads to be reviewed, I was repeatedly redirected to a generic refund policy. I had to continue pushing just to have the issue escalated to a human representative.

Thumbtack gets paid regardless of whether the customer ever engages, while the professional absorbs the entire cost of a poor-quality lead. That business model needs far more accountability and better protections for the professionals funding the platform.

At this point, I do not believe the quality of the leads or the level of support justifies what professionals are being charged.
