### 3/5 — Please Fix Bugs

*2025-11-09, version 4.1.8*

I want to use this app so badly, but it keeps closing when I try to select my child's card.

### 3/5 — App drains battery fast, other issues

*2025-10-23, version 4.1.7*

Currently trialing this for my family and have ran into two issues so far.

Positive:
- Love the user and friendly UX
- Love the thumb system, chore chart, and rewards system

Issues so far:
- App drains A LOT of battery on my iPhone 16 Plus
- In app help center is broken, doesn’t allow me to even connect to the AI they use for support problems

Like this app and how feature rich it is compared to others like it. Would love for it to be improved further.

### 2/5 — Watch Compatibility Falls Short of Expectation

*2025-07-22*

This app has a great concept. However, both of my children use Apple Watches connected through my parent iPhone, and unfortunately, the app doesn’t function as expected. Although it claims to be compatible with Apple Watch, it requires each watch to be paired with its own iPhone or tablet to access any features. This limits its usefulness for families where children don’t have their own devices.

It would be much more effective if the parent could manage and push the app to the children’s watches independently of whether they have personal iPhones or tablets. We’ve decided to cancel our free trial and will continue using Apple’s built-in reminder and calendar apps to track chores and behaviors.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. The Watch functionality was only ever originally meant for the use by parents and not by the children but we can also see your use case.

We will take what you have said into consideration and discuss it with our developers to see if this is something that is possible in a future release.

### 3/5 — Looping

*2025-04-20*

Looks like a really cool app….if I could actually get into it. It keeps looping back to how the thumbs up and down function works, and then takes me along to the subscription page. This has happened about 4x now and it doesn’t seem to recognize that I’ve ALREADY done all this. I’d signed up for the free trial, but have now canceled since it’s stuck, and I can’t get past the front door.

### 4/5 — Help

*2025-03-12, version 4.0.24*

I can’t figure out another way to get help, hopefully this works. We love the app and it’s been really helpful but I can’t figure out how to use the thumbucks? And the ‘lock in thumbucks’ button isn’t working. Help please!

### 4/5 — Good app

*2025-03-05, version 4.0.24*

Good app but the notifications are annoying because you can’t turn off the thumbs up notifications without turning off all the notifications in the OS settings

### 3/5 — Uhhhh

*2025-02-23, version 4.0.24*

So I downloaded this game, exited for my kids to try it, but as soon as my FINGER touched the game icon it just crashes, this has happened for 2 days or so

### 3/5 — Glitchy

*2025-01-30, version 4.0.22*

I thought I’d found the perfect app but unfortunately it’s full of glitches. I’m constantly being asked to subscribe and having to restore purchase, family members keep getting disconnected and needing adding again and thumbs are sometimes missing causing upset when my children log on. App support try their best to help but blame it on not having the latest version, despite 3 out of the 5 devices having the latest version and this issue happening on those too. A shame really as it’s not work paying for in this state.

### 5/5 — Best Chore App For IOS

*2024-12-20, version 4.0.18*

We love this app. Have been using it for a while, love the new update. Highly recommend!!

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2024-12-20, version 4.0.18*

Love this behavior and chore app, easy to use, make real difference in kids behaviour. Highly recommended and support is great

### 3/5 — Hate the update

*2024-10-02*

Too many clicks required to award a thumb. And too many notifications. The notification of how many days in a row I've awarded thumbs is infuriating. Also annoyed that the app description said it could be used on apple watch when I purchased last school year. That's still not possible. Also there's no quick way to view progress toward goal, which is very motivating to see for my kids. You can get to it, but a glitch makes it hard to toggle between kid profiles. Also liked the old graphics much better. The beauty of the original app was it's ease of use. Please revert and add apple watch functionality. We loved the original version and have recommended over and over again!

**Developer response:** Hi there! We have recently updated the app to address many of your concerns here. Streaks can now be completely disabled via the Settings. You can now toggle with ease between kids profiles via the goal dashboards. The watch is now updated and connected to the new version! Hopefully this improves usability for your family. We are looking at how to cut down clicks to give thumbs however many therapists and child psychologists who use our app to help families require the extra information it provides.

### 5/5 — Game Changer

*2024-09-13, version 4.0.6*

I already loved Thumsters, but am loving the new version even more! More interactive, more features - well done. Love seeing the improvement in my daughter’s behavior, and through a fun, easy, positive way!

### 5/5 — Fantastic app that WORKS

*2024-09-13, version 4.0.6*

I love how well my kids respond to this app, we’ve seen a major positive change in their behaviour and routines, especially around getting ready in the mornings, bed time routines and staying in bed, and starting to try new foods at meal times for my picky eaters. It’s simple to use (parenting is convoluted enough without complicated apps to learn!) but rich in features that work so well with our family. I particularly like the reports, and the fact it has a family sharing feature which means my husband and I can share one account on both our phones. Everyone is on the same page, and that constancy makes a huge difference in my opinion!
Updated to add: love the new version!!! Great updates thank you! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

### 5/5 — I am so grateful for Thumsters! IT WORKS!

*2024-09-11, version 4.0*

We initially tried Thumsters to help our toddler with potty training and we were so impressed with the results! He responded so positively that we tried it with other milestones such as cot to bed transition and even fussy eating and it honestly was a godsend for our family! Highly recommend Thumsters - it’s fantastic!

### 3/5 — Could be great but needs improvement

*2024-09-09, version 4.0*

The concept of this app is fantastic, and it’s fairly easy to use. However, it would be much better with a child-specific version that I could install on my kids' iPads. Currently, they can give themselves thumbs up or down, which defeats the purpose of a parent or caregiver managing the rewards. The child view should only allow them to see their report, points, and reasons behind the rewards. I added my child as a 'family member' using the family code and selected 'child,' he still had the ability to give himself thumbs up, which defeats the purpose. I assumed that selecting adding a family member as 'child' would remove this option. Because of this, I also enabled 'Access Protection' on my side with a parent password THINKING doing that would disable his ability to give himself points, but after inviting my child to the family on his iPad,again as a “child”, he could still give himself points even with Access Protection turned on. If I turn on 'Access Protection' on his device, he won’t be able to use the app at all because he won't have the parent code which I obviously wouldn’t give him. Additionally, there should be an option to edit entries. I accidentally selected the wrong goal and now can't go back to correct it, which is frustrating. Additionally, if a child logs out by accident (which happened several times), they can't log back into the family without requesting to be added again as a child in the family, but once I granted the same child access again, my app shows him duplicated! There are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out for a smoother experience.

The reporting feature is not very helpful to see points broken down by hour and color code. Instead, the report should show details of the behavior and goals, the points awarded, and what they were awarded for.
For example, if my child got a thumbs up at 8 a.m. for 'Getting Ready for School' and earned 2 points toward the 'Extra Screen Time' goal, the report he sees should display:

8 a.m. - 'Getting Ready for School' - 2 pts - Extra Screen Time Goal.

This type of summary would be much more useful than just a color-coded hourly view for the WHOLE day as there are many hours they are away at school where there is NO activity. You should only see the hours when there is activity.

With these improvements, the app would be much more effective.

I put in a request through app support but figured it was good for other parents to know there are some kinks that you need to watch out for when using this app. It does take a little playing around because it’s not as counterintuitive … the menu at the bottom isn’t great & the repointing isn’t good either

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2025-11-09, version 4.1.8*

Tried on 2 different devices, can’t pass onboarding

### 1/5 — Chores?

*2025-01-17, version 4.0.21*

Advertised as a chore tracking app, but really is just a reward tracking tool. No way to track specific chores/routines.

### 1/5 — The latest update is bad

*2024-11-14, version 4.0.11*

The latest update breaks the app for me. It locks up after awarding a thumb. Closing the app doesn’t always resolve the issue. Also, even when it works, there are too many steps involved in just awarding or penalizing that it is distracting and inconvenient.

### 1/5 — Go back to the old version

*2024-09-19, version 4.0.7*

The new version is meant to look flashy but is so many clicks. I just want to easily go over thumbs up behaviors with the kids before bed but this new version is an unwelcome change.

### 1/5 — It’s ruined!

*2024-09-10, version 4.0*

It was fine the way it was- the new version is such a nuisance. You’re supposed to simplify- not complicate.

### 1/5 — Stop Resetting My App

*2022-09-12, version 3.06*

I love this app, I love this concept for goal setting. Except now my kid is sitting here crying because we went to do his thumbs up and everything is GONE. For the second time. This is a pain in the neck to set up, and to figure out where he was with all of his goals - plus the recent changes that make assigning thumbs to goals an extra step for him to mess up, and resetting goals nearly impossible - I don’t know that I’ll be continuing with this app. REALLY disappointed, and I’m a pro user.

### 1/5 — Where is my count?

*2022-08-19*

I don't use this every ten minutes of every hour of every day because I am a normal human being with a job and other things to do besides hovering over my kids CONSTANTLY to give them thumbs up or down for literally every blink. So after doing all the set-up and navigating around I gave some thumbs up and down and then came back two days later to see all the thumbs GONE. I had to click through 7 screens to see a "historical" report which 100% defeats the point of the app. I don't want it to reset the count for me unless I have decided that I should reset it. The goals I set weren't met, and I couldn't see progress towards the goal because the app ate the thumbs. So yea if you are a micromanaging helicopter or if your children are glued to your hips all day and you thumb them constantly with your phone at every turn, this might be great. But if you are a normal person and your kids have any space at all, this app is worthless.

**Developer response:** Hey there,

We are sorry to hear that Thumsters did not meet your expectations. What you are referring to is the daily thumb count that is displayed in the "My Kids" section, this section get's refreshed every 24 hours but does not delete any thumb counts. You can find the total thumb counts for each goal in the goal section. I've forwarded your feedback to the team as we always strive to be able to accomodate for every parenting style.

Best regards,

Team Thumsters

### 1/5 — Crashes when adding child

*2022-03-24, version 2.1.0*

Just paid for the premium version. The app crashes every time I try to add a pic for my second child.

Fundamentally unstable. Totally useless in current version.

### 1/5 — Rubbish - doesn't work

*2021-06-07, version 2.1.0*

Made an account but when I try to add a photo to child's profile the app crashes and closes, EVERY time I try. I give up trying.

### 1/5 — Keeps exiting.

*2021-03-10, version 2.1.0*

Can’t even add a picture without with exiting out on me so I can’t even try it out. ZERO STARS.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app!!!

*2025-11-29, version 4.1.10*

Features to consider
1. Collaborative task between kids. Each contributes points at their will.
2. Weekly/monthly tasks: e.g. a task needs to be completed only two times a week. After two occurrences, remove it from the list for that week.

### 5/5 — My review of thumsters

*2025-11-24, version 4.1.9*

It is over all a great app for tracking daily behavior and encouraging your child to do chores

### 5/5 — Great- but has bugs

*2025-09-09*

Update/ the dev team is so responsive! They’ve fixed the bugs!!! Wow what an amazing experience! I don’t have to continuously reorganise the tasks anymore 🏅🏅🏅🏅 thank you! Changed to 5 stars instead of 4!

The app signs me out constantly and that’s a bit annoying. Organizing the tasks only applies to one day. The next day I have to reorganize them which is. Also annoying. The concept of this app is incredible! Love it! I wish they’d fix those 2 issues though!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. Great news! We have released the update to allow sorting of tasks that are recurring, so your task sorting will apply to all instances of that task for that day and all in the future. With regards to the log out issue, this is unusual. We would love to understand what might be causing this issue. Please reach out to support either in app or on our website and they will assist.

### 5/5 — Very great

*2025-08-20, version 4.1.2*

So great and cheap unlike the rest

### 5/5 — Incredible app!

*2025-07-02, version 4.0.31*

What a great way to assign chores to the children. Love the way it reinforces good behavior and teach them how to keep track of their chores. Brilliant!

### 5/5 — Goodbye Star chart

*2025-06-22, version 4.0.31*

So helpful! Will use with Grandkids!

### 5/5 — Life-Changing!

*2025-06-20*

This app has truly changed the way we parent and the climate of our household! We used to become so frustrated after saying the same things again and again, when in reality, we weren’t speaking, our kids language. The Thumsters app has bridged that gap and motivated our children to see the value in chores, kindness, selflessness, and going out of the way to help others. What first was motivated by receiving “thumbs up”, is now motivated by the way, they see their actions affecting others around them. We are so grateful we found the Thumsters app!

**Developer response:** Wow! We are so thankful that it is having such a positive impact in your family.

### 5/5 — Leveled up our parenting

*2025-03-27, version 4.0.24*

Love this app, started using it for my 10 yr old & TEENS!

### 5/5 — Working great!

*2025-02-27, version 4.0.24*

After exploring this app on the App Store and then experiencing it firsthand, I have been absolutely blown away. The design is exceptional, the interface is incredibly intuitive, and the overall user experience is seamless. Every feature feels thoughtfully implemented, making navigation effortless and enjoyable. I came across a prior review mentioning glitches or usability issues, but my experience has been completely the opposite—everything runs smoothly and flawlessly. This app truly sets a new benchmark for usability and functionality.

### 5/5 — 100% great app

*2025-01-21, version 4.0.21*

Getting our kids engaged in setting goals and boundaries is life changing. These are skills and habits that set them up for a great future.
