However, for sheer grandness, I think they are missing Piasa the thunderbird of the Mississippi River (as seen on the cliffs near Alton, Illinois.) The booming reverberations of thunder bouncing off the limestone cliffs there are the sound of the Piasa (Pie-uh-Saw) bird's wings. ### 5/5 — Love this app *2017-03-12, version 2.12* Great app. Surreal! What's even more incredible is that I listen to these on my stock iPhone earbuds. I can't wait to see what it sounds like with some real headphones! To all those commenting that Thundergod doesn't have multitasking support: I e-mailed Naturespace about this, and they told me that you can download their Naturespace app, and if you've already purchased Thundergod you can unlock the same thunder tracks in the Naturespace app for free. Just go to the thunder section in Naturespace: the tracks from Thundergod should say "unlocked" next to them. And then you can enjoy the thunder tracks while multitasking! ### 5/5 — For those wanting updates *2011-10-05, version 1.2* These sounds are amazing. It quickly became one of my favorite apps. I too was waiting for updates that brought multitasking, retina support, etc., but found out today how to get them. Naturespace has another app called Naturespace that has received all these updates. The app is free and then comes with a few sample sounds. Other sounds can be purchased within the app, including all the sounds found in Thundergod. And, if you have Thundergod installed on your device, the Naturespace app lets you download these sounds for free. So the end result is all the same sounds (plus some) in an updated app. Hopefully this will help some of those waiting eagerly for these updates. ### 5/5 — Best 10 bucks I ever spent *2011-05-29, version 1.2* it may be a little pricier than other apps, and I actually misread the price thinking it was 99 cents. I cussed a little under my breath when I realized I had just paid 10 dollars for one app. but after I starting using it, I realized how much I love it! I LOVE thunderstorms, this plays 5 different kinds: loud thunder wind and rain, lighter thunder with heavy rain, rainstorm at sea, rainstorm in the forest, and just steady rainfall. I love the first one called "Thor" because I'm a storm lover, but I switch between the others based on my mood. it's extremely realistic and has a long track time because I rarely hear anything that sounds the same. and it always starts at a different place if that makes sense, just adding to how realistic it is. hands down the best way to listen to an artificial thunderstorm. I don't my phone on my ihome just about every night, and cuddle and close my eyes and I'm just astounded. if you love going to sleep to thunderstorms, you will want to have this app. you won't be sorry. ### 5/5 — EXCELLENT SOUND *2011-01-02, version 1.2* I have MANY rain and thunder CDs and this company is by far the best. They just need to make more. (And personally, I like the wind rustling in the trees, and you can make more ZEN motivated tracks.) You will not regret the purchase if you are put off by the price. Don't be. You will sleep peacefully, and you will enjoy the holographic sound. I have everything NatureSpace does. The NatureSpace app, THUNDERGOD app, and all of their CDs. The holographic sound is just fantastic, especially with good earphones. I use in the ear canal headphones and would steer clear of ear buds. (Yuck.) This company does have to get their butts moving and MAKE MORE tracks! Only seven CDs? The best and most realistic sounding rain and thunder ever. No hiss. No high tremble which sounds like bacon frying, just great deep bass thunder, and perfect rain. NOW MAKE MORE!! ### 5/5 — high quality but needs an option to customize *2010-09-12, version 0* The sound quality is the best you will find for storms as far as realism is concerned. My only complaint is I wish there was an option to remove the wildlife sounds from the tracks, IE the frog sounds. The 1st couple times you hear them it's ok, however you'll soon realise everytime you hear them you become aware you are listening to a looping sound track thus killing the experince for me anyway. Still despite the slight annoyance I feel it's still worth the investment, but adding this option would make this a 5 star app and then some. It should be noted although there is little room for improvement, I have yet to see an update released. You would think for such a high priced app the dev would atleast add a few enhancements if not an extra track or two. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 2/5 — Ten Dollars???!!!? *2009-10-13, version 0* I have been buying sleep sound machines, downloading and creating my own sleep sound audio tracks for almost 30 years, so here is the reality about this product: I listened to the "lite" version of this rain/thunder track with headphones. The track loop was very long, rich, and had amazing separation and depth. I was so impressed I actually put down $9.99 to purchase the full version. In the end, who wears ear buds or headphones when they are sleeping? The stereo separation and sound quality is meaningless when listened to on stereo speakers. In that environment, the earphone feature dulls the frequency range. I feel ripped off and manipulated after spending $9.99 for the full version. At best, it may be worth $1.99. All you get is five tracks. The timer does not extend beyond four hours, whereas the other sleep sound apps utilize the built in iPod/iPhone timer system which is up to 24 hours. With speakers, there are several other sleep sound apps which are just as good or better for much less money, such as SleepMachine, SleepMaker Storms, and Ambience. I was taken for a ride by New Age B.S. ### 3/5 — Paying twice now *2024-03-27* I purchased entire catalog several years ago and streamed speakers nearly every night. Now you want to pay - again - to stream the same stuff. It’s wonderful if you upgraded the quality- but I should have kept the option to continue streaming what I have purchased once. Please fix it soon. ### 3/5 — Great Sound Too Expensive! *2010-08-01, version 0* Please make this app run in the background just like naturescape. Definitely the thunder sounds and surround sound available on this app are great. However, I rated it pretty low due to price and because there was just too little variety in the five sounds available. As the current app is with only five sound choices I would not have paid $4 but no more. There are two really good app's Naturescape for free by this same developer and White Noise $1.99 with really good thunder sounds that also have a lot of other great relaxing sounds available. Honestly, I listen to the others more than this expensive app because sometimes I just want a relaxing noise other than thunder and I do LOVE thunder. So, it's a great app just not worth $9.99 for the options. I LOVE the FREE Naturescape app even more. If it's not in your budget get the $1.99 White Noise app and you'll have 20 great sounds! And most importantly they will run in the background with the new 4 update unlike thundergod. ### 4/5 — Realistic Storm Sounds *2015-08-06, version 2.12* This app is so realistic that when an actual storm hit, I checked my phone because I thought the app was running. It's far superior to other apps in that regard. I wish there were options to edit levels of thunder/rain within each track, but it's still very good. The timer function is perfect for sleeping. I read the description and it said they recorded over 65 thunderstorms across the united states......really? Where are they? because on this app you only get 4. The quality of the sound is awesome,I just don't like deceving ads. The maker needs to let the buyer know exactly what they are getting.I thought I was going to get 65 different storms. But no......4 thunder storms and 2 rainfall. So for that....4 stars ### 4/5 — Very high quality audio but maybe not worth $9.99 *2009-10-20, version 0* Overall I think this is a great app, the quality of the recording is very very good, probably the best environmental recording I've heard. Having said that what you get is 3 different thunderstorm/rain recordings and 2 pure rain recordings. So while the quality is high, what you actually get is somewhat limited in it's scope. Since then, I’ve surely used this more times than not—and really think about that. I’m leaving this review in hopes the creators see it and are encouraged to continue updating and improving the app. I’m a little worried it’s quickly becoming “dead” so I can only hope by some miracle that is not the case. I saw via the version history there was an update for iPhone X, which is a decent sign I suppose, but even still... There has yet to be another storm addition or UI change or even design change. Things like this make me disheartened, especially considering the time I’ve had the app. If you have good or even decent speakers, the sounds are brilliant. Stellar work.
