## What is Tikiri?

Tikiri is a warm, playful companion for little ones exploring their first Sinhala words, for the families passing the language on and the curious travellers meeting it for the first time.

Tikiri isn't a course and it won't promise fluency. Think of it as a friendly sidekick to keep Sinhala close and fun, something to enjoy alongside everything else that helps a little one meet the language.

The words, letters, and phrases are spoken aloud by a native speaker, so little ones hear them the way they're really said.

Start with the Flashcards: 238 words across 19 topics, from Animals and Food to Feelings, School and Space. Soft watercolor artwork on every card, and a slowed syllable-by-syllable version so little mouths can follow along. Fun facts about Sri Lanka tucked inside. Just tap the picture to hear it.

Meet the Alphabet, the Sinhala hodiya letter by letter. Tap to hear each letter's sound, then its example word, with a picture to remember it by.

Then try Sound Maker. A wheel of twelve vowel marks sits around a Sinhala letter, each mark in the place it really appears. Tap one and hear the letter change, with the pieces and the result shown side by side.

Try the Quiz, a gentle "see and pick" picture game with stars to collect. And say the Phrases, everyday things like hellos, thank-yous, and "I love you," each one spoken aloud with a slower take on the next tap.

On every card, you can show the meaning in a language you already know: English plus Tamil, Hindi, Russian, German, French, Chinese, Italian, Arabic, Spanish, Korean, and Japanese. The Sinhala stays the same, so anyone in the family can share it.

Two age modes so it grows with your child. Little kid keeps things gentle. Big kid mode opens the full decks, the Quiz, the Phrases and Sound Maker, plus Big Numbers up to 1000 and the Geography sub-decks of Cities, Provinces, and Landmarks.

No account. No internet needed. Free to download, with an optional tip that unlocks nothing and is never required.

Made by a Sri Lankan dad, for every Sri Lankan child.

### 5/5 — A Beautifully Designed Sinhala Learning App - Perfect for Kids and Adults alike

*2026-07-09, version 1.3.2*

I had the opportunity to beta test Tikiri, and it’s been amazing to see how polished the final app has become. The experience is incredibly intuitive, with a beautiful, modern UI that makes learning feel natural and engaging.

While it’s designed with children in mind, I genuinely believe anyone wanting to learn Sinhala can benefit from it. The lessons are easy to follow, the navigation is simple, and it does an excellent job of making language learning approachable without feeling overwhelming.

The flashcards are a fantastic addition, with colorful illustrations that keep kids engaged while helping reinforce vocabulary. I also love the pronunciation feature. Being able to hear each word spoken aloud makes learning much easier and helps build confidence.

What makes Tikiri even more special is knowing the care that went into creating it. You can tell this wasn’t just another app. It was clearly built with a lot of passion and attention to detail. Inspired by the developer’s desire to teach his own child Sinhala, he chose to share that same experience with everyone else, and it shows in every aspect of the app.

If you’re looking for a fun, fast, and effective way to learn Sinhala or want to introduce your kids to the language, I highly recommend giving Tikiri a try. It’s an outstanding app, and the developer has done a stellar job. Excited for the future of this app!
