## What is Tile & Error?

Tile & Error probably looks and feels familiar, like the word-building board games you know and love. But THIS game mixes in a healthy dose of chaos, too.

Those other games put every Triple Word Score and Double Letter in the same space. Not Tile & Error. Every game gets a unique game board, with the special spaces entirely randomized.

What's more, you get a variety of Rainbow Spaces each game, too. Build a word on top of a Rainbow Space and you'll trigger some random action. You might create a Quadruple Word Score, or add five blank tiles to the tile bag, or force your opponent to swap their tiles. In some cases, though, a Rainbow Space might cut your turn's score in half! They're good far more often than they're bad, but they aren't without risk!

You can play against the computer on four different difficulty settings (Easy, Medium, Hard, "Best Word"), and against your friends. Good luck!

### 3/5 — Solo Play Too Difficult

*2026-04-17*

Even on easy, the computer uses extremely obscure words.

Nicely designed app otherwise. Just not recommended for solo play.

### 5/5 — Polish and Whimsy

*2026-03-31*

This is a great take on the tile game format that is also polished and whimsical. It doesn't look or feel bloated like a name brand game or rough like many Apple Arcade games. Give this game a try. You'll probably love it.

### 5/5 — Great Game

*2026-03-27*

Always a joy to play this game!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.18 — 2026-05-28

Your hard-fought game concludes. All the tiles have been played. All the words have been formed.

But that pesky "Game Over" screen blocks everything. You can't see the jumbled crosshatch grid of tiles you and your opponent placed!

That frustration is now but a memory, as this update lets you see the finished game board again if you tap outside the "Game Over" overlay.

Also: Bug fixes and improvements. Of course.

### 1.17 — 2026-05-14

Your score is important. Sometimes, when you replayed past opponents right away, we could accidentally screw up score calculations in rare but not impossible circumstances. Look, I'd love if your 31 point play scored 124 points... but that's just not fair.

This release fixes that issue.

### 1.16 — 2026-05-13

Sometimes, you just can't find a place to go. That's why you have to pass. But sometimes, passing your turn didn't quite work. And if you AND your opponent both kept passing, the game would never end.

Passing is now fixed, and three consecutive passes ends the game.

### 1.15 — 2026-05-07

This release fixes a couple VERY annoying bugs:

Sometimes it was harder to place tiles on the board than it should be. In moments of weaker Internet, blank turns could get the game into a weird state. Those and other small bugs are fixed! Hooray!

### 1.14 — 2026-04-29

Hot on the heels of the recent accessibility improvements comes my most-requested feature: It's now easier to see the tiles your opponent just placed. That's it!
