## What is Time Was?

Create your own history timelines and share them with others through the Time Was app. Add events to your timeline and include dates, titles, descriptions and images. The app lays out your events in an easy-to-view timeline format. View your timeline as a vertical list of events, or as a traditional horizontal timeline with events placed along a series of years. Search events to find important people, places and happenings in your timeline. Make your timeline public to share with the Time Was user community if you'd like. Or keep it private for your own use. Add public timelines from other people to your library to view and learn what others are publishing about historical events. [:mav: 2.0.2]

### 1/5 — Not functional

*2026-05-09*

I was totally excited about this but seems to have a major bug. It opens to black screen saying you have no timeline yet and there is no visible function to create one or add anything. On,y edit and it’s all grayed out since there is nothing to edit. In help window I get no response at all. I reinstalled 3 times and same. Too bad. Would be great if it worked.

**Developer response:** Please consider updating your response since the iPad issue has been resolved.

### 3/5 — pretty good but a little disappointed

*2025-11-28*

I’ve been looking forever for an app to keep a master timeline for art history movements and periods which is when I stumbled upon this app. the real only big problem I have with this app is that it does not allow me to input a date that exceeds 9999. I’m sure the developers didn’t consider this, however, given that the app has a B.C. dating option, it would only make sense to allow me to input dates for things that are prehistoric. other than that I have no other major issues, but given that it is an app centered around history, I am disappointed by this dating issue

**Developer response:** Ashweis, thank you for your feedback. The date limit is a current limitation of the platform we use for development. But we are looking at alternatives. Please keep an eye open for updates that may include this change.

### 5/5 — Great organizational tool!

### 5/5 — Simple & Innovative

It’s very enjoyable to share timelines with my family!

### 5/5 — Horizontal Timeline is Cool

I couldn’t find a horizontal timeline maker anywhere. And this one is really good.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.0.0 — 2026-08-25

This version is a major update to the app that adds timeline sharing with friends, and timeline collaboration. Add members to the Team for your timeline and give them permission to view or edit the timeline. Dates can also be much larger now, and hourly timelines are supported. Collaboration will work well for teachers and students, or for friends or families that are building a timeline such as a group project or a family history timeline. Thank you for your feedback and comments.

### 2.0.2 — 2025-11-15

Minor bug fixes to handle upgrading correctly.

### 2.0.1 — 2025-11-14

There are a few important bug fixes in this version. It removes the floating action button from the vertical timeline when viewing another person's timeline. It also prevents jumping to the first event in a horizontal timeline every time you return from viewing an event or from the vertical timeline. And it shows only searched items in the horizontal timeline after conducting a search in the vertical timeline.

### 2.0.0 — 2025-11-04

Version 2.0.0 adds a horizontal timeline view that places your events along a series of years to show the relative position of each event to the others. It's a powerful way to see how events relate to each other in a way that the vertical timeline cannot show. Turn your device to the horizontal orientation to see your events along the horizontal timeline. Pan and zoom the horizontal timeline to move quickly through the events and see more detail. Or pan out to see the broad view of the entire timeline.

### 1.0.0 — 2025-09-04
