After that the screen popped up saying sign up for premium at $2.99 per month. I closed the screen, tried the timer again and the same message came up to pay for premium. (They should have added a reasonable charge to bring in revenue.) ### 1/5 — Dangerous app – Turns your phone into a proxy for Bright Data! *2026-08-07* This app is using predatory monetization tactics. It pops up asking you to "stop seeing ads" by allowing Bright Data to use your device's free resources and IP address to download public web data. This means the app turns your personal phone and internet connection into an open proxy node for third parties. Sharing your IP address like this is a major security risk—if someone uses your proxy connection for malicious activities or web scraping attacks, the trail leads straight back to you. Hiding high-risk network sharing behind a simple ad-free trade-off is deceptive and unsafe. Do not click "Allow" under any circumstances. Turns out some free apps include hidden code that lets other companies route their own internet traffic through your connection — meaning your bandwidth gets used for things that have nothing to do with the app itself. If you have a data cap or limited connection, keep an eye on your usage after installing.
