## What is Tincta?

Tincta turns your camera into a colour intelligence tool. Point it at anything in the world — fabric, paint, product packaging, a flower — and instantly identify, store and learn everything about that colour.

- Capture colours from real life
Tincta's real-time camera scanner detects colour with precision using the P3 colour profile, for the closest match to what you actually see on-screen. Stay in the viewfinder and capture as many colours as you need in one session. Everything is saved to your personal colour library and named automatically from a database of over 1,500 standard colour names.

- Know your colours completely
Every captured colour gets a full breakdown: HEX, RGB, HSL, and CMYK values — all tap-to-copy. WCAG AA and AAA contrast ratings for both white and black backgrounds, so you know immediately whether a colour works for accessible design.

- Build palettes from what you see
Use any captured colour as the foundation for a palette. Choose from six colour theory harmonies — monochromatic, analogous, complementary, split-complementary, triadic, and tetradic — or build manually by scanning additional colours with your camera. Every palette gets an automatic harmony analysis and cohesion rating.

- Digital Design & Fashion modes
Harmonies can be calculated two ways. Digital Design uses pure colour wheel theory, optimised for screen and digital work. Fashion mode applies muted, desaturated adjustments for real-world wearability — useful when your design work crosses into physical materials, print, or product. Switch between them instantly on any colour. Generate SwiftUI Color code or CSS variables and copy them straight to your clipboard.

- Saved For Later
All colours you scan are saved, you can also favourite colours for quick access, search your entire library by name or hex value, and every colour is timestamped so you know exactly when you captured it.

Tincta is completely free, works entirely on-device, and requires no account or network connection.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-23

A lot of attention and fixes to how harmonies are calculated to ensure correctness per the source colour theories.

• Fashion harmonies now more tightly follow the applicable colour theory
• Palette ratings now breakdown how it is derived to make it less "magical" and more precise.
• Complementary now shows the single hue opposite yours, as the scheme is defined. It previously repeated that colour as a lighter tint.
• Digital harmonies are balanced by eye and checked for on-screen legibility.
• The colour theory picker info button modal has been expanded to offer more detailed explanations on each style, and source materials.
• Added a swatch in the colour detail view to show the named library colour a scan is matched against, with an explanation. This makes it clearer why two colours may have the same name, but a different hex code.

Palettes
• Palette harmony ratings now recognise every scheme correctly.
• Any colour in a palette can now show its own harmonies.

Truer colours
• Colour values and copyable SwiftUI and UIColor code were corrected in Display P3 for accuracy.
• Fixed a bug where the colour name shown in the viewfinder might not always match the name of the colour you save.

Polish
• Colour names on swatches are much easier to read.
• Switching between Digital and Fashion styles now animate correctly.
• Explanations opened from the info buttons no longer get cut off part-way through.
