I’m an EE and amateur radio operator who loves technical gadgets, particularly when they are practical. A boss (a PhD from MIT) once called me a techie nerd. I got a Ting sensor a few years ago when State Farm offered it as a policy holder. The previous app had lots of nice features to alert wiring issues, local outages, line voltage, historical data, etc. The 3.0.4 update takes it to the next level. I like being able to see variations in line voltage, frequency, and other measures but the choice of a 30 second, 1 minute, 5 minute and 15 minute graph is extremely useful. The old app showed me previous days’ historical voltage trends where I saw periodic short term 2 volt drops that I couldn’t identify. Now a real/time graph shows me exactly when it’s happening and the duration so I can hunt it down. I’m so glad I signed up for this service! You want to make sure to activate the weekly email reports that give you a great way to keep an eye on the quality of service of your utility company. ### 5/5 — Cool, amazing, and keeps you safe too *2026-08-18, version 3.0.4* This is something that is not a game or fun like so may other apps in the App Store. Nothing against the other apps but they do not keep you, your home and all those in it safe. The best part is all you do is plug it in and link the app to the device. Then you just sit back and wait for it to tell you if you are go to go or if you need to do something. In my case it found some sort of dangerous issue that my electric company needed to take care of. I did not think the electric company would take it so seriously, but they had someone out to fix it, less than hour after I reported it. ### 5/5 — Get the Ting *2026-08-17, version 2.5.40* Every house needs this for fire safety and power outages! Contact your State Farm Agent for a free device that simply plugs into an electrical outlet in your house. Well, Ting is the equivalent, but for electrical fires. “Only Ting can prevent electrical fires”. A must have for every home, especially given how much demand we place on our panel, breakers, wiring and outlets. We have two EV’s and a very busy household that is running everything, all day, constantly. I want to be sure the system is safe for my family. While I have not yet found any problems with my electrical system,I am convinced that the device is capable of detection and notification. The ideal scenario is that a problem never occurs however I feel that it’s a great way to stay on top of problems. ### 5/5 — Information Missed *2026-08-23, version 3.0.4* If it wasn’t for my Ting, I wouldn’t have know that the power flickered (Brownouts)or was lost (Outages). It was surprising how many brownouts my area experienced in a month, causing two appliances to fail from electrical overload.
