TippyTalk is an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) app for people of all ages who have trouble speaking due to aphasia, nonverbal autism, stroke, apraxia, down syndrome, ALS and other speech and language disorders. Using TippyTalk, non-verbal and speech-impaired persons use pictorial prompts to send messages to friends and family on their mobile phones. They then respond with video, pictures, audio or text to be read aloud. TippyTalk is also a text-to-speech (TTS) app as messages can be read aloud to anyone in the room with them. TippyTalk is unique, affordable, and easy-to-use. A Manager (usually a parent or other family member) customizes the app with illustrations of the TippyTalker's favorite things, such as restaurants, toys, places, pets, foods, and activities. The TippyTalker selects illustrations to create a simple sentence. TippyTalk gives non-verbal or speech-impaired persons of all ages ("TippyTalkers") two-way communication with the world! This app is junk. Hardly even has any words or phrases. I didn’t realize nonverbal people only needed 30 options of things to say. Messages don't come through, and they don't come on time. When they do, it's the most exciting thing for me as a parent. But when they don't, lots of frustration from my son. Secondly, the options are extremelyyyyyyy limited. There are only a few buttons and there's no option to customize. My son doesn't use 90% of the buttons. And the stuff that he normally uses on his AAC device is not available on here and no option to add. Thirdly, the "send" button doesn't appear until an option is chosen from every screen. It's not enough to say "I need to use the bathroom", it goes to another screen where you HAVE to choose what you will be doing in the bathroom, before the send button appears. The send button should appear as soon as the first button is pressed. Sometimes it is enough to just say I need to use the bathroom. If they want to say more, then great, but don't force them to. The idea is absolutely amazing.... if it worked. It's exactly what I've been looking for but unfortunately, I was very sad and disappointed. And for $12 a month, I'd say it needs a LOT more work! ### 4/5 — Helped my son express his needs *2023-08-29* We have used this app for over a year and it has helped our non-verbal, level 3 autistic son express his needs. We are extremely glad the app helps your son. ### 1/5 — ? *2023-07-12* I completed the trial and was happy with the app. I have subscribed and made a payment but the community app won’t work … it tells me I still need to subscribe but when I press the ‘subscribe’ button it says you have already subscribed. I have emailed the TippyTalk admins twice but no reply. It is looking like I need to delete the app and request a refund.
