## What is Tobokachi?

Tobokachi is a language-learning companion app.

It's built around two key ideas for learning a new language:

The FSRS spaced repetition algorithm.
Handwriting for deep learning.

While most apps in this space rely on virtual cards, Tobokachi generates a real, working PDF. It's perfect for studying on paper or on zero-distraction devices, like e-ink tablets.

Create as many language goals as you want, build specialized card decks for every key point in the language, and let Tobokachi generate the perfect study sessions for you, so nothing gets forgotten.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-09-24

Bug fixes and stability improvements.

### 1.4 — 2026-09-24

A few improvements to make working with your cards and decks faster:

- When creating a card, focus now starts automatically in the "original" field, with the keyboard starting in lowercase.
- Cards in the review queue are now better shuffled, so two related cards (like front and back) don't show up right after each other.
- New search for flashcards within each deck, and search for decks within each goal.

Thanks for using Tobokachi!

### 1.3 — 2026-09-19

You can now move your cards in and out of Tobokachi:

- Export your decks to a CSV file, for example to move them to another device.
- Import cards from a CSV file, including AnkiWeb exports, choosing which column is the front and which is the back.

Thanks for using Tobokachi!

### 1.2 — 2026-09-15

This version focuses on making it easier to get started and clearing up a screen that caused confusion:

New onboarding flow to help you take your first steps with the app.
Improved a screen where it wasn't clear what to do next.

Thanks for using Tobokachi!
