It does exactly that. There are a few things I wished for that are missing. As cute as the animations are I wished there was a way to skip or fast forward them after having played it a bit. I also wished the expansions of the board game were included, even if it’s a separate purchase. I can’t say anything about the online play, it seems nobody is ever online when I play. ### 4/5 — Great but issues. *2025-11-08, version 1.20.5* It’s a great game! But there are a couple of bugs. I tried to do online play and play with one of my friends, but it kept crashing. I also can’t figure out how to make an online account to get an achievement. That brings us to the next topic: achievements. There are a couple of easy ones, but one of them is literally to be the best player in the world. WHY?! Other than that’s the bots almost always just go the spot in front of you. Also what’s the puppet for on pass and play. There’s always just a puppet and a player has to move him and that means there’s always an extra player. Other than that, it’s amazing. ### 2/5 — Can’t play online *2025-09-20, version 1.20.4* Update: Even after the patch, the game is still unplayable! After arriving at the first inn checkpoint and finishing the meal, players get locked out. | Bought the game to play online with someone but there is a bug that makes it so that when both players have joined, it becomes two concurrent games that play at the same time. This is because Kanji does not cover all Chinese characters. When you use a Japanese font for Chinese, many Chinese characters do not even exist in such a font, so they have to fallback to the default font provided by the OS, resulting in a really messy GUI. ### 4/5 — Will redownload once the expansions are out *2024-11-18, version 1.20* Like this game. So it’s nice to be able to play solo. Only problem seems to a bug where I choose a meal at the last inn and it doesn’t give me the points. Doesn’t happen every time and it’s not limited to one character but it happens frequently enough to notice. But neither of us gets any sound/ music. In settings we’ve tried everything from toggling music/ volume/ language to no use. We’ve tried downloading in multiple devices - phones/ iPads.. all have the same issue. Is anyone else seeing that or are we doing something completely stupid? Looks like an easy one to fix if it’s a bug! ### 4/5 — Good overall, but HUGE Bug with Chubei *2022-11-02, version 1.15* There is a bug with Chubei. Played a game online with a friend. In the end, there was a discrepancy in the scoring between my game and my friend’s game. He was playing Chubei - he had an extra 5 points that was not reflected on my game. When looking into the details, I saw that his game showed 2 additional panorama sections that he received from encounters which was not apparent on my game. For some reason, the panoramas from encounters are not registering. ### 3/5 — 🍜🍡🍙🍣🇯🇵 *2022-06-05* Unfortunately achievements do not work and synchronise with GameCenter, multiplayer is dead, there is no asynchronous play. Unfortunately, I’ve run into some bugs at various player counts. Solo seems fine. Pass and play 2-player also seems fine. 3-player with 1 AI generates a 4-player game with 4-player game with 1 AI. 4-player with 2 AI doesn’t load at all. 5-player with 3 AI doesn’t load at all. Didn’t test all player counts. That said, it’s completely ruined by the dreadful online experience when trying to play with friends. On the rare occasion the server is able to host a 4 player game, it more often than not crashes halfway through. It took my friend and I an hour to figure out how to friend each other and start a game. Afterwards, we tried two games and both times the ai crashed. Lovely art, lovely atmosphere, low tension. There was a bug with the pass-and-play AI but it's all fixed now. Can’t wait for expansions *2023-07-29, version 1.15* A beautiful, relaxing game which has had any earlier issues fixed by the developers. Take a vacation along the coast, with wonderfully animated characters and locations. Now we’re waiting on the wonderful Crossroads and Matsuri expansions. Crossroads turns every location into a choice, turning a game of hopscotch into a piece of real strategy, as you can now choose legendary souvenirs, end of game bonuses, one off powers, a risky round of gambling, and more. Matsuri adds many new characters and adds an event at each step of the journey which affects the game, greatly improving variation and replayability. And maybe even… promos and the New Encounters? 🤞 Even without these, my girlfriend and I love playing this game. Once they’re here, it’ll take over many dinners and game nights each week. I only play solo, so I can’t speak to online issues. But this app is flawless in solo play. Others have mentioned the tutorial being minimal, but I thought it sufficed and was well done. It gives you what you need to get started. Rules and strategy are easily available online if you need them, but this game is meant to be an exploration, it’s about the journey. The pace is relaxing, but there is still a strategy and challenge to it. It’s not overly hard nor too easy. It’s simply a relaxing, fun game. I’m glad that when you start a new solo game, you can click in settings for that game and set it to fast AI. That’s great for when you don’t have as much time. But the regular speed is perfect for a relaxing game. Thank you for a good game at a good price with no ads or IAP. It’s also good on battery life.
