## What is Toko Bonsai?

Walk, and the world's trees grow.

With every step from your daily walks, you grow trees like the Baobab and the Dragon Blood Tree as bonsai — slowly, quietly.

Each tree you complete is saved in your catalog. Your own personal collection of the world's trees grows, one walk at a time.

Turn your step count into a quiet act of collecting.

■ What you can do with Toko Bonsai

・Meet the world's trees: from Japanese cherry and pine to species across Africa, the Mediterranean, and the tropics
・Collect, slowly: each completed tree joins your catalog
・Steps shape a tree: every walk gently changes the bonsai's form
・Automatic step counting via Apple HealthKit
・Home Screen widget: watch your tree grow at any moment
・Six stages of growth: from a seed to a finished bonsai, step by step

■ Made for people who

・Are tired of step counters that just show numbers
・Want something quietly beautiful from each day's walk
・Are drawn to unusual plants or to the bonsai aesthetic
・Don't want pushy notifications or loud ads
・Are looking for a calm, slow collecting app

■ How a bonsai is grown

1. Connect Apple Health to count your steps automatically
2. 7,000 steps a day, 49,000 steps total — one bonsai completes
3. The tree passes through six growth stages, from seed to finished form
4. Completed bonsai are saved in your catalog
5. Begin a new tree, and gather the world's species over time

■ Designed for quiet

Inspired by 18th-19th century European botanical encyclopedias.
A calm, old-book aesthetic with generous whitespace —
the kind of screen that lets you breathe out.

■ Privacy

Step data is read from Apple HealthKit and processed on your device.
Location is never used.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2.0 — 2026-08-06

Flowers, now growing in your pot.

Alongside the bonsai you've been tending, you can now grow flowering plants — ten species including roses, tulips, and sunflowers. Each one sprouts, buds, and opens as you walk. Rendered in 3D, so you can turn it with a finger and look closer.

- Ten flower species, with entries in the catalog and collection
- Light shifts with the hour — morning sun, dusk, a lamp at night
- A clock on the widget
- A redesigned share card that gathers your days into a single record

The days you walked become the record itself.

### 2.1.1 — 2026-07-26

・Bug fixes and improvements
Fixed an issue where the keyboard would not dismiss when tapping outside of it on the diary entry screen. Added a "Done" button above the keyboard to make finishing your entry easier.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-07-20

Introducing the Step Diary.

- Step Diary: once you pass 3,500 steps in a day, you can write that day's entry. Add a place, and a map with that spot's weather and temperature is kept alongside it
- Diary Book: your entries are bound into a monthly book you can flip through page by page. At the end of each month, the trees you grew appear as a sheet of stamps
- Serial numbers: every completed bonsai is now inscribed with its number — "the 7th in the world to complete this tree." Works you finished before this update have been numbered retroactively, in order of completion
- Minor improvements and bug fixes

### 2.0.4 — 2026-07-16

Three new tree species have joined the collection.
- Monkey Puzzle Tree (Chile) — armoring its branches in reptilian, scale-like leaves since the age of the dinosaurs
- Cedar of Lebanon — layering its branches in broad horizontal tiers, the tree on Lebanon's flag
- Golden Wattle (Australia) — spilling golden blossoms over silvery leaves

We've also improved the world atlas in your catalog.
- Pan the map freely in any direction
- Place names are now easier to read

### 2.0.3 — 2026-07-15

- Widget improvements and stability enhancements
- Minor bug fixes
