## What is Tolk?

Tolk - Offline Translator translates documents, photos, your camera view, text, and speech — entirely on your device.

Download the languages you need once, and everything after that works with no internet: on a plane, on the metro, or abroad without roaming. Nothing you translate is ever uploaded. No accounts, no analytics, no servers of ours involved.

• PDFs come back with their layout intact — same fonts, colours, and tables. Scanned pages are read with on-device text recognition.
• Photos and camera shots get the translation drawn back onto the image in place, so a menu still reads like a menu.
• Type, paste, or dictate, with automatic language detection.
• Two engines and 200+ language pairs: Apple's built-in translation, or open-source models from Argos Open Tech and Helsinki-NLP.
• Works from the share sheet, from any app's Translate menu, and from Shortcuts or the Action Button.

Text translation and dictation are free and unlimited. The free tier includes 3 document translations per week — a photo, a file, or a camera shot. Pro removes the weekly limit and syncs your history across devices through your own iCloud account.

The app now opens straight into a translator you can type or speak into. Translate photos, your camera view, files, text, and speech — all entirely on your device, all working with no internet once your languages are downloaded.

PHOTOS AND CAMERA
Point the camera and press the shutter, or pick a photo, and watch the translations appear on the image one by one. Translated text is drawn back in place — matching the original's position, colors, and background, so a label still reads like a label. Long-press to select and copy the translated text; pinch to zoom.

VOICE
Dictate instead of typing — entirely on your device, in over 60 languages. Alongside Apple's speech recognition, Tolk now includes OpenAI's Whisper running locally, which adds around 30 languages Apple can't transcribe, like Bulgarian, Persian, Urdu, Bangla, and Swahili, and helps with distant or noisy speech. Your voice never leaves your phone. Prefer more accuracy? Download the enhanced dictation model in Settings.
