### 4/5 — One update

*2026-09-03, version 13.62.1*

Needs road speed icon made larger and preferably top left.

### 4/5 — Outdated Info

*2026-09-02, version 13.62.1*

I really want to support this app for keeping Lake Ontario.
I searched Home Hardware and among the options were 2 locations that closed 2 years ago, and a Home Outfitters that has also likely been closed 2 years. How can I get the most updated information in the suggestions?

### 4/5 — Speed cameras missed

*2026-09-01, version 13.62.1*

Could be a bit more up to date on speed camera info

### 2/5 — Could be great, but…

*2026-08-31, version 13.62.1*

Prior to using this app, I have mostly used Waze and Googlemap. I decided to try out TomTom after buying the ‘Tom’ device, which I think is a very handy gadget, but requires TomTom to be installed on your phone.

So two stars from me. I’ll start with the positives. It’s free to use, the layout is very clear/clean and I like some of the features. For example, if you’re going through an average zone, TomTom will show you what your average speed actually is and adjust accordingly if you slow/speed up. It’ll give you some breakdowns at the end of your journey and paired with the ‘Tom’ it’ll warn you of any speed cameras or hazards. It has shown me better routes, often finding shortcuts missed by Waze and Googlemaps. The two occasions I ignored its diversion directions, I ended up regretting it after double checking with Waze and going with that.

The negatives - whilst the app looks great and works very well (when it’s working), there are problems. The biggest problem being that if you’re doing a long drive, the app will stop working. It’ll still be on your screen and still showing your speed. But it’ll stop showing you whatever the speed limit is and lose track of where you actually are, often showing you as in the middle of a field next to the road and not moving. The arrival time will not be accurate and overall it becomes useless. You can get it to work again, but only if you end the navigation and start all over again - dangerous and hopeless if you’re already speeding down a motorway. This is an absolute fail and needs fixing if anyone is to take the app seriously. (And just for clarity, both my iPhone and the app itself are fully updated).
The next major issue with the app are locations themselves. Again, an absolute fail and renders the app utterly useless. Some locations simply aren’t recognised in the app. My home isn’t recognised and so I have to set the centre of my village as my ‘home’, despite being nowhere near my house. On a drive recently to a nature reserve, the app decided to take me down a farm track nowhere near the nature reserve itself. Its inability to locate locations has left me unable to rely on it and I’ve had to revert back to Waze or Googlemaps to be sure I’m going to the correct locations. When driving to a new location, I now don’t bother with TomTom and instead go for Waze, because I can’t trust TomTom to recognise the location, or take me to the correct location.

Overall I actually think TomTom has a huge amount of potential. I think features on some of the other apps aren’t particularly helpful and I think TomTom has the balance just right. Showing you your speed through and average zone for example - really useful! I’d far rather use TomTom and paired with ‘Tom’, it could be absolutely brilliant. But until these major issues are fixed, it’s completely unreliable. I believe they used to charge people to use this app - how?! Please fix the app asap! Until it is fixed, I will be returning to Waze, which I can rely on to work.

### 3/5 — Almost good

*2026-08-31, version 13.62.1*

Really wanted to like this, but the main feature I installed it for is broken, along with a few others. That feature is the always on speedo - I drive a KPH car in an MPH country so need to know my current speed in the correct unit - Apple Maps doesn’t show the speed at all, Waze now stupidly obscures the speed with the speed limit, and Google Maps is just spyware. This was the only other nav app I could find with an always on speedo, but unfortunately half the time it just shows as 1mph. The other big irritation is that despite telling it to use dark maps in the app’s settings, and having permanent dark mode and always use dark maps switched on in CarPlay’s settings, this app ignores all that and is blindingly bright and incredibly distracting.

### 3/5 — Good, but….

*2026-08-31, version 13.62.1*

Great navigation app, but please keep the previously chosen scale for the map.
Could you also keep up to date with speed limits? There have been at least 5 map updates for the UK and one road that you have marked as 50mph has been 40mph for at least 6 of those updates.
My Garmin keeps the speed updates slightly better, it has taken 2 updates after the changes for it to show on their maps.
The speed changes were over 3 years ago, so if Garmin can do it, why can’t you?

### 4/5 — Mapas

*2026-08-26*

^ TomTom team

### 2/5 — Sub par

*2026-08-26, version 12.81.7*

App very frequently repeats the previous message anywhere between 2-10 minutes later (e.g. you’re told to “turn left” 5 mins after you’ve already made the turn). Not so bad on motorways or known routes but awkward in a city on unknown route. Also not confident it’s choosing best route - ignored instructions on 30 min journey which google maps and car sat nav said would add 8 minutes

### 2/5 — Not great

*2026-08-25, version 12.81.7*

Keeps cutting out doesn’t have correct speed limits on roads that have been the same for 10 years, if you go through roadworks that doesn’t disappear off the top of the map.

### 3/5 — Speed limits

*2026-08-24, version 12.81.7*

Maps are good but found that max speed limits on more than 3 of the roads
Traveled on were all wrong. Selwyn district of Canterbury.

6 months since this last review and have just received an e-mail saying that keep up to date with all road speeds.
These speeds in my area have not been corrected.
100 kms past a school is not correct.

### 5/5 — So far so good

*2026-08-23, version 12.81.7*

This has been a wonderful experience so far. I used it all day yesterday and we had some really bad storms and the app told me where the traffic was and how long it would last. I also love that TomTom pays attention to detail. It adds state routes shields to streets and interstates if the routes run concurrently. And the state shields are respective to the state, not generic pill shaped boxes like Google. I will continue using this app. I know y’all are continuously updating the app. Keep up the good work!!! And the CarPlay interface is really good.

### 5/5 — Let's revisit the traditional ways

*2026-08-23, version 12.81.7*

Super easy to use and fits perfectly with my retro style unit featuring Apple CarPlay on my 2009 CLK. It's perfect for the era when the car was first released and works like a charm without being too complicated.

### 4/5 — It’s OK, needs improvement

*2026-08-23, version 12.81.7*

Second time using this app. Leaving Waze due to political views. Heading to work and without knowing that two of the main freeways I normally use are closed down. Who knows how long but there is already construction on site. The map didn’t try to redirect me, said fwy was open. Maybe it’s due to not many people in my area using this app. That’s understandable but when I was reaching another exit, instead of providing the EXIT street name. It said the City, so I kept driving looking for the other name but it turns out, I drove past my exit. Therefore arriving late to work.

### 4/5 — Bueno si

*2026-08-22, version 12.81.7*

Me gusta mucho

### 3/5 — Meh

*2026-08-19, version 12.81.7*

It’s not at all what expected I might as well have a satnav on the dash. It runs through my phone. I’ve gotta keep the phone connected and on so it burns my phone battery down yeah 5 out of 10.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Renaming locations unacceptable

*2026-09-02, version 13.62.1*

Gulf of America? NOPE. Lake America? NOPE.
Deleted. When they can use the proper names of places I might try this app again.

### 1/5 — No Sound

*2026-09-01, version 13.62.1*

Mapping looks good, however there’s no sound
Tried all suggestions still no sound. This after an update.
Using my iPhone

### 1/5 — Incorrect water-body naming

*2026-08-30, version 13.60.0*

TomTom fails to properly label the Gulf of Mexico, indicating that its cartography is not to be trusted. Interestingly, the Android version is still correct.

### 1/5 — Mr

*2026-08-25, version 12.81.7*

Why is there no search option uses voice option??

### 1/5 — Who let the Devs Vibe Code?

*2026-08-20, version 12.81.7*

This has gone from great to appalling. Just uninstalled after a journey, several times it decided to reroute and advise on impossible detours, e.g. change from straight on to turn right while on the junction. Other time it advised a right turn on a no right turn junction, age of the no right turn sign suggests it wasn’t new.

There’s no warning of detours just updates the route, despite setting to suggest alternatives, suggest not choose them for me.

Goes down small roads and narrow residential streets to shave off a few minutes, trying to out Wave, Waze for useless diversions. Back to Apple Maps until something better comes along.

### 1/5 — Speeds Wrong

*2026-08-18, version 12.81.7*

For a long time I used TomTom as my goto App. I had bought it for my pocket PC. And I re-paid for it on both Apple and Android. It was the only game in town. WHAT HAPPENED!
All the speed limits are wrong. If we can’t trust the speed limit, can we trust the directions?

### 1/5 — Great Sat Nav app

*2026-08-11, version 12.81.7*

Nice app to use, moreso than googlemaps or anything.

### 1/5 — Poor substitute for device

*2026-08-07, version 12.81.7*

Too basic, not functional enough to be used as a proper sat nav. Cannot set way points or stops

Google maps is much better as a phone sat nave app

### 1/5 — Broken trash as of August 2026

*2026-08-05, version 12.81.6*

August update: they “updated” the app. Really?? Well they did t try it on CarPlay, at least not Subaru. The map STILL FLIES ALL OVER when you hit the move button. Want to try to move around the little town you are in? Hahahahah! Fool!!! No. The map will fly off to half a mile away. Don’t bother to zoom
I. Or out, it won’t help. they still haven’t fixed the ability to put in multiple stops. Still trash!
“

It’s very frustrating and sad that this company, which made wonderful standalone GPS devices that function very well, and which makes in-car navigation on multiple different brands (e.g. Subaru, Jeep, etc) that function pretty well, makes such a horrible standalone phone app! The stars they do earn relate to the fact that 1) this is free with no ads. And 2): it does well with giving you the traffic colors on the map, so you can see around you and your destination any bad traffic. It also does well with giving you lots of options for marking road issues. As a phone map app it’s Ok- Lacks some significant items like making multiple stop routes. But the integration to CarPlay for Apple is horrendous. you can NOT zoom in and out using your figures on a pinch function nor swipe the map: you have to use the arrows to move and the plus/minus buttons to zoom. AND you can’t get to those without tapping a small little area on the screen. The June 2026 update had now broken the movements: it shifts the map in MASSIVE chunks, which often mean nowhere near your route (e.g. routing in PA, but arrows move the map to NJ). So you cannot have a fine level of control anymore. it’s horrible! When the app shows you the route Options. there are these big thick blue lines which also erase details so you don’t know necessarily what some of the roads are that it wants to take you on. Oh and you cannot zoom in on the map to see the route options - it only zooms to the end point no matter what! so, if you want to figure out what roads of the particular route option are, you have to choose one route and THEN move around the map, and if you don’t like that, you have to CANCEL the route and select a new one through the entire “search” process of putting an address in and looking for routes. For those who want to search for stops along the route, or multiple stops, you cannot! it is one stop only! (Unlike Apple Maps) if you need to go anywhere else or see somewhere along the route, you have to END your route, search for what you want, select it, and route to it, and then when there put your original destination back in. unbelievable! I don’t like that I have to pay for my in-car system navigation map, updates, and traffic, but I’m about to based on just how bad this app actually helps me. I’m not a big fan of the Apple app, but that actually is some degree quite a bit better than this one.

### 1/5 — CarPlay only shows night colours

*2026-08-01, version 12.81.5*

After more than two month’s use, since 21st July the app shows only night colours via CarPlay. Reinstall has not fixed this.

### 5/5 — Great - good routes, solid app.

*2026-09-04, version 13.62.1*

Very easy to use. No bells and whistles. Super clear. If you primarily use this for commuting, it is 100% fantastic. Very solid app. I do wish that it would let me pre-plan routes, stops, and flip start spots, etc. vacation road trip planning…

### 5/5 — Great non-american driving app

*2026-09-04, version 13.62.1*

Like many Canadians, I looked for an alternative to google maps. This app works smoothly and seamlessly with apple car play, the display is clearer and the traffic, roadworks, congestion information are spot on. This is an excellent app for driving. Better than what I had before.

### 5/5 — Correct Naming

*2026-09-04, version 13.62.1*

An excellent alternative to other map apps and correctly names geographical features.

### 5/5 — Offline Maps and visual need of improvement on apple car play
