### 3/5 — Jeremy

*2026-08-15, version 5.28.0*

Jeremy

### 2/5 — Needs a mirroring capability

*2026-06-04, version 8.20.0*

Great machine but Tonal really needs a second screen or companion display mode in the app. So many exercises require facing away from the machine, and then you can’t see the rep count, timer, tempo cues, weight, or next move without twisting around or stopping mid-set. The app should be able to show the active workout screen on a phone or tablet.

### 2/5 — TIA Half-baked

*2026-05-16, version 8.16.2*

Don’t normally leave reviews, but you’ve rushed to put out a half-baked TIA, I think in response to an open source project that actually integrates with your APIs better, and provides more insight into trends over time and areas to work on.

TIA can barely create workouts. It’s failed to create workouts for me on multiple occasions and just spits out text for me to go enter for a custom workout. It appears to be limited by whatever algorithm is already generating “daily workouts” instead of building a dedicated MCP and giving TIA the tools it needs to build workouts itself.

By the time I’m done fighting with TIA to create something worthwhile, I could have been halfway through a workout. Very frustrating experience.

Further, it’s limited to 15(!) workout lookback, cannot tell me my E1RM on and lift, and cannot tell me really anything useful.

### 3/5 — PLEASE FIX

*2026-05-11, version 8.16.2*

Mostly good. Custom workout moves needs fixed urgently! I only do custom workouts not the classes(wish didn’t have to have a sub for custom workout) and I use 3 custom moves in my workouts. I do seated cable rows, seated back extension, and seated facepulls as a custom rope moves using a canvas strap I bought on amazon. IT NEVER SAVES THE WEIGHT I USED FOR CUSTOM EXERCISES MOVES. I always have to manually reselect a weight for the custom moves the next time I do the workout. Ofc I don’t have them memorized so I have to stop mid workout to pull up last workout in Tonal app on my phone to read what weights I used last time I did that workout. It’s super annoying. PLEASE FIX THAT🙏! Also it’d be great if we could choose muscles worked for the custom moves.

### 5/5 — Lives up to its name

*2026-04-29, version 8.16.1*

This thing has changed my life. I am 32 and in the best shape of my life! I’ve lost more than 10lbs after plateauing 2.5 years postpartum. I could say so much more but it’s too much to put into a review. Just wish they sold apparel :)

### 5/5 — Boom

*2026-04-17, version 8.12.1*

Tonal is killer. Get one

### 5/5 — Mad

*2026-04-16, version 5.28.0*

Great stuff!

### 5/5 — The program is great!

*2026-04-07, version 8.12.1*

Gave it a legitimate shot for three months doing the Joe Rodonis 12 weeks to jacked program and it significantly transformed my body.

### 5/5 — The BEST

*2026-03-23, version 8.8.0*

I have been working out on the tonal for almost three years and I absolutely love the convenience and results it offers. I am in the best shape of my life right now!

### 5/5 — Best. Home Gym. Ever.

*2026-03-20, version 8.8.0*

I’m on a 200 week streak, and can honestly say that Tonal is the best home gym of all time. Staying consistent is easy. Tracking workouts is gamified and entertaining. The world class coaches are amazing. Tonal makes getting jacked way too easy. Great work, team!

### 5/5 — Best purchase ever!

*2026-03-07, version 8.8.0*

Best decision to buy a tonal ! If you’re on the fence about it just do it !

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2026-02-23, version 8.4.0*

This app is great for Tonal users. Helps with creating workouts, finding programs to join, and coaches for your workouts.

### 5/5 — Love it!!!

*2026-02-20, version 8.4.0*

I actually look forward to working out now!! It’s so convenient and so easy to use! Love that it learns my body and my limitations and tracks my progress and journey back to fitness and better health! A worthwhile investment FOR SURE!!

### 5/5 — Worth it

*2026-02-17, version 8.4.0*

I’ve always traditionally used free weights. The tonal app/software is top level. Been using it for a year. Love it.

### 5/5 — Started liking it

*2026-02-10, version 8.4.0*

First things first ? Yes ? It’s expensive, but I went in a monthly plan . But you know what , all the instructors in there are really enthusiastic and gives you the same enthusiasm when they are instructing you in a program . And there are all levels of programs : beginner , intermediate and advanced . You can start as little as 11 mins and then do your strength training or Pilates . And to top it off , if the tonal senses you can pull a weight and stay there for 5 secs without pushing or pulling, it reduces the weight , awesome isn’t it ? Initially very skeptical on the price , but started loving it ❤️

### 4/5 — Awful customer support - such a disappointment

*2026-02-10, version 8.4.0*

Imagine you spend thousands of dollars on gym equipment then they tell you to spend another 60$ a month and when you want to cancel because you moved they refuse and play games on the phone for hours. It’s the same scam local gyms have been running but you can’t even go handle them in person.

### 3/5 — Frustrating Coaching Tips

*2026-02-06, version 8.4.0*

I feel like the coaching tips are very poorly organized. It will yell at you for not pulling the handle enough, even when you’re well past your rep range and doing half reps. In fact, it often tells me to do chest flys to a point that would *guarantee* a shoulder injury. I find this extremely irresponsible for a product designed for brand-new lifters who are probably going to hurt themselves doing this. Extremely annoying especially when the voice comes up in the middle of your set and throws you off, I don’t think there’s even a way to turn the voice feature off.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Useless app

*2026-08-14, version 8.32.0*

For the amount of money spent on the machine and the monthly subscription cost, you would think that they could have a functioning app. It should be able to do simple things like change a workout schedule intuitively, and make recommendations that have some basis in reality. A 65 year old male does not need to get continuous recommendations about postpartum recovery programs. They really need to do better.

### 1/5 — Frustrating Coaching Tips

*2026-06-18, version 8.20.0*

Changed to one star from three because they added an annoying AI assistant.

### 1/5 — Coaching cues

*2026-02-28, version 8.8.0*

Enable the option to turn off coaching cues. Keeps yelling at me to not touch tonal arms on lat pulldowns but my arms are long enough that if I don’t go all the way up I’ll miss a lot of movement.

### 1/5 — HealthKit Integration Broken - Active Energy Not Syncing to Move Ring

*2026-01-04, version 7.48.1*

Critical Bug with Apple Health Integration
The Tonal app successfully syncs workout metadata to Apple Health (duration, heart rate, workout type), and even displays “Total Active Energy” within the workout details (e.g., 207 calories burned). However, it fails to write Active Energy samples to the HealthKit timeline (HKQuantityTypeIdentifierActiveEnergyBurned), which means calories burned during Tonal workouts do NOT count toward the Apple Watch Move ring.
The Problem:
When I complete a 33-minute Tonal workout burning 207 calories, the workout appears in Apple Health with all details correct. But when I check my Move ring, it only shows the ~30-40 calories from ambient movement that day - the 207 calories from my actual workout are missing.
Comparison:
My Wahoo cycling app syncs correctly - workouts AND active energy both appear, and my Move ring updates properly. This confirms the issue is specific to how Tonal writes to HealthKit, not an Apple Health problem.
Technical Details:
Tonal is writing the HKWorkout object correctly but not writing corresponding HKQuantitySample objects for active energy throughout the workout duration. This breaks Apple’s activity tracking ecosystem and makes it impossible to accurately track daily activity goals.
Impact:
For users trying to maintain fitness consistency and close their Move rings daily, this bug is demotivating and makes the Tonal integration with Apple Health essentially useless for tracking overall daily activity. I have to manually enter calories after every workout - something that should be automatic.
Request:
Please fix the HealthKit integration to write Active Energy samples to the timeline, not just to the workout metadata. Until this is resolved, the Apple Health integration is broken and I cannot recommend this app to anyone using Apple Watch for fitness tracking.

### 1/5 — Apple Health syncing broke

*2025-07-21, version 7.28.0*

After the latest release, the synchronization with Apple Health has stopped working properly. The app no longer syncs data to Apple Health, which appears to be a significant bug. It's frustrating because I have other health apps, like Peloton, that do not have this issue.

The process of syncing should operate in the background instead of requiring the app to be constantly relaunched. The situation has become so problematic that I've created a shortcut to launch the app daily to ensure it syncs, but now that workaround isn't even effective.

### 1/5 — Liked better previous version

*2025-02-15, version 7.4.0*

Not longer able to see app in my Apple Watch
Was nice to control the weight from my watch.
Is this an error?

### 1/5 — Terrible cancellation experience

*2025-02-10, version 7.4.0*

First, checked the app - it said to use the tonal. Then, check the tonal - it said to scan a QR code to go to a web page. Logged in on that web page, what did I find? No cancellation button. Googled “how to cancel tonal”. Found a REDDIT ARTICLE that explained how to cancel.

Are you seriously kidding me? So sleazy. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.

Oh, looks like I can reactivate the membership in the app… gross business practices.

### 1/5 — Worst investment ever. Account deleted

*2025-01-21, version 6.48.3*

Tonal lied to their customers after spent thousands of dollars for the equipment, now you have to pay $60( much more expensive than any other high end gym) per month to use it otherwise it will be basically just a garbage sitting in your house. When I ordered the Tonal back to 2020 it was advertised you can still access most of the function of the machine even without a membership. This company should get sued.

### 1/5 — Unreliable

*2025-01-19, version 6.48.3*

It’s a great machine when it’s working, but it’s unreliable. I’ve had this machine for about four months and already needed a technician to come out, which took two weeks. During that time, I still had to pay the membership, even though I couldn’t use the machine. Now, I’m having issues with the cables. For how expensive this machine is, I expected it to be much more reliable.

### 1/5 — Insane monthly subscription fee

*2025-01-14, version 6.48.3*

The machine was so expensive, and now the monthly fee is costing another 800 a month? Wild

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Must have for weight lifting

*2026-07-22, version 8.28.0*

Tonal is the best thing to happen to my strength. The machine is irreplaceable and I love the functions in the app from the side view camera to creating your own workouts to tying into Apple Health

### 5/5 — Love the programs

*2026-07-19, version 8.28.0*

I love all the programs this app offers with the Tonal. I also like that I can tailor each daily workout to fit my schedule and design custom workouts. My entire family uses the tonal. Saves is so much time being able to workout at home.

### 5/5 — Gcoggin

*2026-07-14, version 8.28.0*

I’ve been a gym rat for five decades and Tonal is by far the most complete, safest and convenient training platform I’ve ever experienced!

### 5/5 — Best Investment

*2026-06-26, version 8.24.0*

I’ve owned Tonal since 2022, and it’s easily one of the best investments I’ve ever made. The convenience alone is worth it. Being able to roll out of bed, work out in my pajamas, and get on with my day has saved me countless hours and a lot of money on gym memberships and commuting.

One of my favorite parts of Tonal is having access to world class coaches right at home. Tony Horton is my favorite, and it genuinely feels like having a personal trainer whenever I need one.

What continues to impress me is how much the platform offers beyond strength training. Even after years of using it, I’m still discovering new features. I recently found the guided meditation sessions, which reminded me that I’ve barely scratched the surface of everything Tonal can do.

If you’re looking for a smart home gym that keeps getting better over time, I can’t recommend Tonal enough. Five stars.

### 5/5 — Love this App!

*2026-06-21, version 8.20.0*

I’ve used other workout apps before and nothing compares to Tonal’s App. It’s very user friendly, navigation is great and there aren’t as many crashes of the app like other apps I’ve used! Great App - Great Strength training system! Worth the investment into my personal health and fitness journey!

### 5/5 — Getting Pumped!

*2026-06-18, version 8.20.0*

Loving our Tonal ! It the best home gym anyone could ever ask for! Get yours today 💪🏽🏋🏽‍♀️👍🏽

### 5/5 — 5 Years Strong

*2026-06-03, version 8.20.0*

One of the best fitness apps and machines out there!!!

### 5/5 — Great machine

*2026-05-25, version 8.20.0*

Love the unit. We use it daily for full body workouts.

### 5/5 — Best way to lift weights

*2026-05-15, version 8.16.2*

No more sharing equipment at the gym, go down to my basement and get it done and I love that tonal knows the weights to choose for me and push me beyond what I thought possible. Very happy with this purchase!

### 5/5 — Game changer

*2026-05-10, version 8.16.2*

There’s not too many products I’ve purchased, and I can confidently say have impacted my life as much as Tonal has. Highly recommended.
