### 2/5 — Fonctionnalités vs prix

*2026-08-07*

### 4/5 — Great app, hoping for a few additions!

*2026-06-18, version 3.8.0*

Tonally has quickly become a standout tool in my music production workflow. The current feature set is fantastic, making it incredibly intuitive to map out progressions and build out track ideas. It’s genuinely a pleasure to use for songwriting.

If I could suggest a couple of updates for a future release, it would be amazing to see support for more complex voicings:
Higher Extensions: Adding 11ths and 13ths would be a game-changer for exploring deeper musical textures.

Overall, it’s an excellent app that I highly recommend, and with those few additions, it would be absolutely perfect.

### 4/5 — needs more sounds

*2026-04-07, version 3.7.5*

I love this app just wish the notes can play different synthesizer sounds or arpeggios, kinda like an omnichord.

### 3/5 — Standard notation? No guitar tab?

*2026-02-12, version 3.7.3*

Can we get some color on the fretboard?

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review! I hope to release a version in Japanese someday!

### 5/5 — Top

*2026-01-10*

This app is exactly what i need! I wanted a form to see the scales for immediate practice. Thanks

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review!

### 5/5 — Wowww

That’s what I’ve looking for in my hole life!
And see, I’m a professional!🎧

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review!

### 5/5 — Vorbildlicher Service

*2026-01-09*

### 2/5 — Out of tune issue

*2025-12-29, version 3.7.1*

For the last few weeks the individual notes portion is way off - doesn’t match the chords in the wheel or real life - i deleted the app and reinstalled - no change

### 4/5 — Great, but MIDI In and Out, and a better notation engine would make this 5-stars.

*2025-11-08*

This app is good for teaching chord progressions, chord progressions in keys, using substitutions, borrowing, and modulations, etc. But one clear omission is MIDI input and output. It seems so obvious, the need for midi in and out, I’m surprised that years in it hasn’t been added. An example use case would be, using external instruments for playback, like Pianoteq for example. MIDI input could be used to hear piano while using the app, but also to choose chords by root, or inversion. For example, if I’m going to pick a CMaj in 1st inversion, being able to just play it on a keyboard and Tonaly inserting that chord into the arrangement would be handy.

Also, the PDF sheet music could use a more refined engine. It’s a bit cheep looking. Not something I’d use to give to another professional. But good enough for teaching.

Other than that, I’ve been using Tonaly since it was released and it’s a good tool for teachers and musicians learning the skill of putting chord progressions and songs together.

**Developer response:** Thank you very much for the detailed and thoughtful feedback — it’s greatly appreciated.

MIDI output is already available and can be enabled from the sidebar menu, allowing you to use external instruments for playback.

MIDI input is a great suggestion and is currently on my list for future app extensions. I’ll definitely keep your use cases in mind as development continues.

Thanks again for your long-term support and for using Tonaly as part of your teaching and musical work.

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2025-10-14, version 3.6.7*

As a musician for over 15 years I can say that if there is any app to get, this will be the one. In terms of song writing, understanding theory, and getting to understand the framework of music; I can’t recommend this enough!!!

### 5/5 — Grateful

*2025-10-02*

Easily the most useful music app available for any style of music alongside forscore. I personally use it for learning and teaching jazz. I wish there was an option to change the octave of the scale and perhaps a few more educational popups but I would buy this again in a heartbeat!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review and feedback – I'll keep it in mind!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Warning

*2026-08-26, version 3.8.3*

This apps retrieves your public IP via api.ipify.org

whoa.

This is a trojan horse in your computer.
Shame on you developer.

### 1/5 — Overpriced

*2026-08-06, version 3.8.3*

Not much for a $30 recurring charge that sneaked up on you without warning

### 1/5 — Forced Subscription

*2026-06-28, version 3.8.1*

Bought Tonaly Pro about a year ago, which seems to have been removed to force subscriptions. Not cool. Also, the amount of data shared is insane. Small devs are a danger to our privacy just as much as Big Tech, since our micro-data, once combined, creates precise digital profiles. Hey dev, are you aware you will be living under the surveillance state you're helping build? Anyway, where is my Pro app?

### 1/5 — Scummy

*2026-06-10, version 3.8.0*

Forces you to give up a bunch of privacy issues and then the app is not free, immediately forces you to subscribe

### 1/5 — Free app is very limited

*2026-02-24*

Unless you pay for in-app subscriptions, this app is not quite comprehensive. Just has 1 scale

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! Major, minor, and pentatonic scales are all available for free — which covers the basics and is great for getting started. For those who want to dive deeper into more advanced scales and modes, a subscription unlocks the full library.

### 1/5 — .

*2026-02-07, version 3.7.3*

Requires subscription and hard to delete

### 1/5 — You have to buy the add ons

*2025-10-23, version 3.6.7*

purchased the app and then basically had to pay the same price again for full functionality. If you know nothing about music this might be useful.
The UI is not enjoyable to use, feels clunky. I went back to handwriting because the suggestions for chords weren’t very good and writing it out was faster

### 1/5 — Great app! But very DIFFICULT to unsubscribe.

*2025-09-03*

Pretty simple, make it easy to unsubscribe. Ive gone through numerous steps and I still can’t figure out how to unsubscribe.

### 1/5 — Not a real songwriting tool

*2025-08-21, version 3.6.7*

This app can only play chords, one at a time, with no other notes. You can’t even play individual notes on top of the chords. I tried to request a refund but it’s too late

### 1/5 — Already paid!!!!

*2025-07-20, version 3.6.7*

I paid for the extra scales, the next day I opened the app and they are locked again..👎

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Thanks

*2026-07-26, version 3.8.2*

Thabks

### 5/5 — Just all around great music app

*2026-07-19, version 3.8.2*

I got this app when it first came out and it’s help me tremendously with learning scales, chords and just song structure in general. It’s very well put together and offers so much learning potential for anyone wanting to learn music and is a great app to practice if you need to brush up on music knowledge. Very much recommend

### 5/5 — 100

*2026-06-24*

**Developer response:**

### 5/5 — great app

*2026-05-01, version 3.7.7*

i don’t know what that 1 star review is talking about, this is a killer app that is a must have for musicians

### 5/5 — Just need one thing

*2026-04-18, version 3.7.5*

I love everything about this about and it has, almost, everything you could want for music theory. If an arpeggio finder/creator was added it would get the chef’s kiss.

### 5/5 — Love the new custom tuning

*2026-04-17, version 3.7.5*

Thank you for adding the custom alternate tunings in the latest upgrade. I play C6 Lap Steel guitar and being able to use my actual tuning makes a massive difference and makes a good app even more useful. 👏

### 5/5 — Wonderful update

*2026-03-31*

I’ve been using Tonaly for quite a while. It’s a great tool for learning the fretboard and practicing scales that’s been incrementally updated with features. I gotta say though, the latest fretboard updates in 3.7.5 are exactly what I’ve been hoping for to make a near perfect guitar practice tool. Love being able to see either note names or scale degree on the fretboard. Wonderful update to an already great app.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review!

### 5/5 — A tab for parallel modes shon simultaneously?

*2026-03-27, version 3.7.4*

Love the app, been using it for about 10 years. Ive always used it to reference other modes to ionian but was wondering if its possible to display two modes simultaneously? Like two sets of dots, separately color coded, and may have the ability to set one mode as home via color choice (no extra clutter needed. Instructions in preferences tab) and the parallel mode of home would be the opposite color displaying your intervals as a palette of color as opposed to separate palettes.

### 5/5 — Phenomenal Tool

*2026-02-01, version 3.7.3*

I’m a 50year old guitarist thats played for 30+ years, always by ear. I’ve e decided to expand my music knowledge and this app has helped tremendously! Runs great on my iPhone and MacBook Pro!!! Just get it… you won’t regret it!
