There is an exploit. You can keep a video on next to it and it will track the time of the video as the time of you playing. It hears sound so it assumes your playing it. This exploit can allow people to get thousands of points by putting it next to a 10 hour video for a long time. I know you can’t fix this but that exploit can ruin your app. Other than that it’s ok I guess.

Been using this app a couple months and it really motivates me to practice by beating my peers with my points, however I have 705 coins that I don’t know what to do with.  Lilly says it should be available in the near future but that was months ago.  I know coding and stuff is hard (I’ve done it) but really I think it would be better to have like an info thing about what coins are for or something somewhere.

Ever since the pandemic started, my piano teacher had been using this app. From the start, it seemed pretty fun; however, as time went on I noticed the amount of bugs in this app. Several were fixed after the first few months using it; however, one infuriating bug has still been going on. So almost every single week for the past 7 months I’ve had to redo an assignment because the total amount of practice days would not be counted. A big example of this happening is on day one practice; where the app shows I completed a certain assignment on the progress meter, but the total amount of practice days never goes up. I will try to write a more positive review if this big is fixed.

When I checked the leader board and I had 5635 points and I asked myself why was it 3000 points below because I checked how many I really had but I had 8635 points! Pls fix it!

Definitely a well developed app. Has a couple bugs and a couple things that I personally would like changed. Has made practicing more fun

Some things that could be improved: 
-App crashes, so I lose my practice time
-If I exit the app while practicing (after I pause it) sometimes it either deletes all my time or doubles it. Kinda screws up the accuracy
-Doesn’t register a good bit of my playing, like octaves, harmonics, high register, etc. This means it doesn’t award me as many points as I should get hahah
-I would love to be able to see the exact amount of time practiced each day. The most I can get to is a weekly graph where it has really weird intervals (right now, my only two interval markers are at 1 hour 23 minutes and 2 hours 46 minutes)

If these could be fixed that would be phenomenal!! It’s really a great app and I’ve enjoyed using it. It has a lot of good features and is definitely a terrific start. Excited to see what future updates bring!

We have been using it for over 3 months now, until recently all is fine are good. For past three weeks, the completed “to do” list continued with bugs. On the student App view the previous completed “to do” tasks assigned by teacher remained in the “ to do “ list even all days tasks have been completed. But actually on teacher’s view App only with most current week’s to do list , no expired items anymore. Now it’s 3 rd week with this bugs, even we tried log off and reinstalled the App again, the bugs still exists! We are facing a continuing growing long “ to do “ list with all expired tasks. This makes the student very inconvenient to identify the “real current and valid” to do items among all those expired items! Pls help to fix the bugs!

From a teacher’s perspective, this has become a great way to send home the lesson assignments. I’m able to add listening tracks right with the assignment, and record music myself if needed. I’ve had an issue with the My Media section, but hopefully that can be resolved soon. 
My students like it a lot and it helps to encourage practicing.

My brother and I each use this app. I play twice as much as he does, although he earns the same amount of points as I do. I found out that he earns a point for every second he plays, but I earn one point for every two seconds I play. Or even less. It is extremely unfair to know that I put so much time and effort into playing, but only get half the credit. This NEEDS to be fixed. Also, the app shouldn’t record our playing. Instead, it should just track how long we play. That way, these problems won’t occur. Although I like the idea of this app. It just needs to make a few improvements.

**Developer response:** Hi -thank you for your feedback! The app does track your practice time, but it also listens to your playing to award you points. In addition, it awards points based on how long you're playing. When you're practicing it's important to keep your device open in the blue practice screen, keep the device as close to your instrument as possible, and to see that the microphone isn't being blocked.

Hi there is this bug where I practice for a. retain time and then the app glitches out and it wouldn’t count my points and it didn’t complete the assignment for the day. If you could fix this bug that would be greatly appreciated.

horrible and bad very bad design, the application works halfway and sends you to an external website, the UX and UI are of the worst quality.  The service is bad, I booked a class, the teacher never responded and they didn't refund my money.  It's the worst I've ever seen.

The app crashes. I’ve uninstalled/installed it several times. I’ve shutdown/rebooted my phone several times. Ever since its last update, the app no longer works (though it says it should work with my iPhone 6).

This latest update needs to be rolled back. Absolutely unacceptable to send lesson content to students that is both 1) potentially developmentally inappropriate and 2) without being able to to opt out or see the content from the teacher side.

I was really wanting to like this app. It’s so full of problems, and every time I contact customer support, they want me to spend 30 minutes explaining every detail of the problem to them. I’ve asked for a refund for many weeks now, and they just keep ignoring the problem and making me prove every problem. The app crashes, recordings don’t load, recordings are of bad sound quality (despite my use of a $250 Blue Yeti mic), the sound files are empty, the compare recordings frustrate students by always giving Ds or Fs, the practice time doesn’t record, and now my assignment changes aren’t saving. Literally NO feature works on this app. The problem is, I’ve got several hundred recordings in the app that I now have to download to my PC in order to quit my $25 subscription before I can quit!  Oh!  And the downloading to my own PC wasn’t working, so I had to beg for an in-person conversation with Tonara just to prove to them this wasn’t working. They did help me figure it out, but it took more than a month for them to give me some help. Tech support is HORRIBLE. All you can do is “text Lily,” and you get no answer to your questions/problems. After 24 hours, she answers you by asking another question. These people don’t know what they are doing. They are taking money from teachers during an already difficult time and NOT providing any of the services that are promised.  And when you have a problem, they turn around and blame you for it.

This app is terrible. There is a leader board on the app that your child can compete on and it will take points away from your child with no explanation. It does not feel good when your child is in 1st and then the app takes the points away and they end up in third. The other thing is it will record your child playing and sometimes it will say that it can’t hear your instrument when they are playing.

As a voice and piano instructor at a busy music studio, I was very excited at first to see this app. It is a great concept and the possibilities to use for my students, and I was ready to share with all the other teachers. I read reviews from over the summer that it crashes frequently but decided to give it a try. I couldn’t even complete the initial test of trying out the features since it crashed several times. I decided to save my time and not even continue setting up 😔

The app has good intentions but many things still need some major work.
1. The stickers are all disorganized and repetitive 
2. Practice sessions assigned do not register again bug fixes
3. Communication alerts should be added with parents maybe a confirmation 
4. Tonara lesson requests are a joke. Kids requesting free lessons. People out of time zones wanting lessons at 2 am. Lessons need to be verified through email to make sure it’s an adult ! After all who is going to pay for them . 
5. I think the format needs some new skins or have some artistic variety to each students assignment page. To let them change their colors or themes. It gets boring. After all this is an app for artistic people . 
I have used for 2 years .. everyone is over it

The app continuously froze when I attempted to swap between students on the same device. Many of my students are from the same household, so this is a big problem. This is the reason I discontinued the use of this with my studio. Furthermore, as a teacher with my own children who are students, the app was rendered useless when I attempted to switch back and forth. I was recommending this app to other teachers, but since my students also take other instruments from other teachers this became a problem. This needs to be more user friendly for a multiple discipline studio and a multiple student household. I would love to give it another try, but I experienced so many glitches during the trial that I just cant justify spending the money to see if the problem has been rectified.

I don’t think I have gone a day without having some technical problems with Tonara, and I’ve been using it for a year.
1. Takes up 3 gigs of storage (how does that even happen??!) 2. Will pause when a battery notif pops up, I have lost many minutes to that. Why you may ask do I not charge my phone more often? Well it doesn’t matter because 3. Takes up a ton of battery life 4. Randomly moves my hours so it’ll combine today and yesterday’s into yesterday’s and Have none today 5. Unless you start another practice round your previous minutes aren’t tracked 7. Randomly doubles my time?? 6. WHY IS THE CHEERING SOUND SO LOUD AND WHY DOES IT GO ON FOR SO LONG

Why do I still use it? Well because my piano teacher requires it and also I think it is a great way to link the teacher and student. But please, just make it a time keeping app that doesn’t take up so much space and can keep track of the time in the background so that battery notifs don’t pause and/or so people can read music from the device while tracking at the same time 

Just wanted to leave this review now after a year because I once again lost a lot of time and I’m so done...

Tonara is the best music app ever, In fact it is better than Simplypiano. When you get five musical notes for reaching new levels I don't know but I bet it's cool. If you want to tell your teacher something very exciting and you can't to music class right now, you can text and they will know right away. You can earn points easily, and the Play for fun task lets you play however you want. Thanks.

It’s really a great app for student - teacher assignment track keeping. I use it with my library of songs and assignments that I reuse with other students. The desktop version is very helpful with all multiple uploads and the chat is also great to keep in touch with students. Occasional bugs with connectivity have been mostly ironed out from early versions. Best tool for my studio for many years now.

I love Tonara it’s the best music app ever! I used to have no interest at all but then my teacher told us about the app then when my first time trying it I soon fell in love with it it had a timer for how much time you practice and I like how they add a leaderboard and point  oh and there’s a list how many days you played and my teacher can send me assignments you should try it

My students have really enjoyed being able to connect with me through Tonara. Some have really gotten into the Leaderboard points system and others just like getting their assignments in one organized place. I have students young and old who are using tonara successfully. I like being able to create assignments that include links to video and recordings. I also love that I can use assignments over once they are created. Thanks tonara I highly recommend.

I love this app. I am still figuring out how to use it best for my students and how to utilize it to its fullest potential but so far it’s been amazing!

Definitely still some things Tonara is working out but their response team is great and they are really listening to us the teachers to help make it work for us!

Oh my gosh let me tell u how much I love this app it lets ur teacher put lessons for u u can chat u can practice any piece and nobody interrupts u if ur practicing and u can learns so much I already have 6363 points this week and there are leaderboard and I’m very competitive so I like looking at the leaderboard and seeing if I can beat anyone! Over all this app is amazing and I total recommend
