## What is TooFar Media?

STORIES FROM THE EDGE

TooFar Media publishes stories by Rich Shapero that test the limits of mind. His protagonists are seekers adrift in a sea of dreams, a domain of illusion and startling vision. They encounter strange gods and unearthly presences, conjured from within or appearing with a mission that cannot, at first, be understood. Their thoughts, like their author’s, are warped toward a state that is different than the one we’re born into—a state more profound, where the truths of our practical world unravel and reveal themselves as the illusions they are. Like the seekers themselves, readers grapple with surprising ideas about human potential.

TooFar Media is also a creative sandbox. Each of our sixteen titles is both a novel and a multimedia experiment combining book, music, art, animation, and video. We have a small core team and dozens of collaborators—writers, musicians, artists, animators, and people with knowledge meaningful to our stories.

Our content is freely available to anyone with an interest.

### 2/5 — Huh? Not what I thought

*2026-08-11*

I’m confused by this. I got a couple books from my neighborhood LFL and discovered a little flyer inside to encourage this app. Says it’s immersive and there’s illustrations and music. I had imagined an app that would show a looping visual with music that would continue (maybe seamlessly looping as well) until I tapped it to note that I had read up to a certain point. Instead it’s the actual books that you can read, and there’s a visual and short tune (~30s) that can be accessed by parting the pages. So far, several pages into Dead But Now Ready, it’s only one illustration with one tune. Each time I’ve parted the pages, it’s the same experience as the last. So you’re not getting music *while* you read, you get it for a few seconds while you pause reading. I tried letting it play while I read the physical copy I have, flipping the pages in the digital copy so I could have whatever “immersive” experience comes along as I read this book, but, like stated, all I’ve found so far is the same exact video when I part the pages. I find that holding a tangible book is more immersive than that.
Thankfully it at least did not require an account be made.
Silver lining: free, digital books.

### 5/5 — Review: Xiphactinus

*2026-06-02, version 1.18.2*

I’ve stuck with the TooFar Media app and just read the latest multimedia offering inside! Imagine your conscience took the form of a seventeen-foot Mesozoic fossil. In Xiphactinus, Rich
Shapero takes a lyrical deep-dive into the primal, churning Interior Sea of identity, power, and transformation.

### 5/5 — A unique and interactive storytelling format

*2026-05-28*

It’s quite an expansive world on the app, with a collection of writings by Shapero not only supplemented by amazing art, sounds and video but enhanced by it. The media is ethereal enough guide and open the imagination without being so heavy handed that you’re left feeling like a passenger as opposed to the co-explorer that you are.

### 5/5 — Super cool

*2024-02-24, version 1.14.4*

Inspiring use of digital media

### 5/5 — Thanks, TooFar Media!

*2023-12-15*

I've been looking for an app like this, without knowing exactly what I was looking for until I found it! It showcases a new way of telling stories, consisting of (mostly short) novels and then paintings and music and videos that you have to dig down to unlock, and that change from chapter to chapter. The novels themselves are pretty edgy and otherworldly and lyrically written. Some of the artwork is incredibly beautiful and like nothing I've ever seen. Some of the paintings are actually animated, which is especially cool. And the music takes the stories to even deeper dimensions with original songs and fantastic vocals. I feel like I stumbled on a digital treasure and keep on going back to read and watch and listen to yet another immersive story.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2023-11-06, version 1.14.1*

A passionate and thought-provoking world of fiction, music, and art, in a truly immersive app!

### 5/5 — Wonderful App w/Lots of Engaging and Wild Stories & Art

*2023-07-14, version 1.14.0*

Just finished my fourth title in this app and just love how the novels have music and art animations underneath the book for you to discover. These elements really enhance the storytelling. Can’t recommend this app highly enough!

### 3/5 — Couldn’t hear any music.

*2021-12-07*

I found this idea very interesting and wanted to experience it. After downloading and opening it I kept waiting for music which never happened. It appeared that something was playing but there wasn’t any sound. Tried to find settings where I might turn on/off or adjust sound. Nothing. Tried several of the book entires and there still wasn’t any sound. I removed the app.

**Developer response:** We are very sorry to hear you’re experiencing trouble with the audio in our app. There is not music that plays at the launch of the app; the music and other media are found accompanying each of the projects. We would love to know where in the app you were expecting to hear music, so that we could either address the problem, or help you explore the stories within the app. Also, our app currently supports iOS 9.0 or later. If possible, try updating your device's OS and try again. Please contact us at readers@toofarmedia.com. We would love to talk with you about the problem and make whatever fixes are necessary. Best to you.

### 1/5 — No sound and also I update my phone so no it’s not that

*2021-08-24*

No mater how hard I tried, turned my phone all the way up, uninstall/ reinstall tried multiple books none of them worked so I just gave up I didn’t even read any of it is the main reason I wanted it was to try something new. Update then the developer says to update my phone from 9 lol who is still running 9 we are in the last part of the 14 updates. So no it’s not because I don’t update my phone that it doesn’t work. And if you are still running 9 on iOS you might want to up date when you don’t need to use your phone for awhile because updating from 9 to14 is going to take along time

**Developer response:** We are very sorry to hear you’re experiencing trouble with the audio in our app. Our app currently supports iOS 9.0 or later. If possible, try updating your device's OS and try again. If that doesn’t work, please contact us at readers@toofarmedia.com. We’ll investigate the problem and make whatever fixes are necessary. Best to you.

### 4/5 — Review: TooFar Media

*2021-06-08, version 1.9.1*

TooFar Media is a platform that brings together Rich Shapero’s entire canon, combines it with a spectacular multimedia experience of art, music, video, and animation, and puts it all in the palm of your hand. It can truly be called a movable feast.

The download from the app store was smooth, the navigation was intuitive, the animation and video engaging, and the artwork and music selections extraordinary.

This app is packed with features any fan of Rich Shapero, or new reader for that matter, would appreciate: Q & A’s with Rich Shapero about each of the eight novels in the app, information about the animation, music, and its creators, bonus tracks, and videos; literally hours of entertainment at your fingertips. I hope to one day find the time to discover it all!

You can access all eight Shapero novels on the go, escape into Rich’s intricate worlds, characters, and plots, immerse yourself in outstanding artwork from a variety of talented artists, well-executed animations/videos, and great music.

After downloading and opening the application, Rich’s novel Dissolve is the first to choose.
An animation of floating orbs, animated from original photography by Cameron Nelson of a rare, beautiful rock leads us to the beginning of the novel.

Clicking the three horizontal line icon on the top right of the screen brings down a menu that contains a navigation screen unlocking a panoply of material: chapter navigation, a Q & A with the author about the book, the artwork and animation, and the music of Lhasa de Sela.

Click Home and enter Rich’s next novel and accompanying insights, music and art.
When you step into Rich Shapero’s world, you step into a world of more than words and into a realm of thoughts and ideas; multifaceted universes where Rich weaves substantive tales steeped in philosophical insights.

TooFar Media is a great app, countless hours of entertainment, easy to use, and immensely enjoyable. Check it out.
