### 4/5 — Needs some improvement

*2023-10-13*

The only reason I use Tooot over other apps is because it’s the only one with admin notifications. I’ve been using another app, but I’d never know when someone joined my server until I checked my admin panel. Missed a few reports because I didn’t see them in my email, so having those in my notifications is a good feature to have.

One thing I wish this app would fix is the translation feature. My server uses DeepL and this app uses Google. The one I use reads like it was written in English. I also wish my notifications would auto refresh instead of having to manually refresh it every time my phone gets a push notification from this app. Really my only issues with it.

### 4/5 — In-app APNS Notifications are each sent SIX TIMES!

*2023-08-17*

I think this started with the July 2023 release…. Have confirmed this by adding other notification-people. I hope you can identify and squish this bug! Thanks.

### 4/5 — Superior App

*2023-05-17, version 4.9.4*

You must give this App a go and I don’t understand why it is not used more often. In my experience it is far superior to others I’ve tried, including Mastodon, Ivory and Metatext. I was looking for something similar to the Twitter interface when I departed in Nov 23 and this App met the bill

### 4/5 — Cool app please let me see images in portrait mode

*2023-01-24, version 4.8.3*

Thanks

### 3/5 — Only one significant annoyance…

*2023-01-14, version 4.8.2*

…There’s no return key provided on the ‘publish’ screen.

Which makes it kind of useless for me. Sometimes I want to separate sentences or paragraphs with a blank line.

Discord’s app does this too, and it drives me crazy. Bad UI decision. We need a return key.

### 5/5 — So clean!

*2022-12-29, version 4.7.2*

I love how clean and minimalist this app is! The developers are responsive and new features are added according to requests. Looking forward to more awesome updates!

### 4/5 — Image Sharing

*2022-12-24*

I love almost everything about this, except when I try to share an image it just shares the URL. Another app I’m trying out doesn’t have this problem.

### 5/5 — Really great app

*2022-12-24*

I’ve switched over to Tooot because Metatext has stopped updating. The one thing I miss is separating out mentions from general notifications — can you have two tabs like Metatext for that function? I do like the ability to see what hashtags I am following. And the transparency count on posts for boosts and favorites and comments reminds me of Twitter, which I like. It’s a clean interface. Is there any way to add a quote toot feature, like the RT feature in Twitter? Lots of people are asking for it. Although I haven’t tested in the app a preview of a link, if the preview (like Twitter) isn’t yet here, would also like it to be added. Thanks!

Update — could you add the number of times the hashtag is used, instead of just a graph? (When I’m searching for a hashtag.) See Metatext’s hashtag search.

### 5/5 — Got the Update… expecting great things!

*2022-12-23, version 4.7.2*

Love this app and if the update makes it even better, I am in paradise. Very responsive, easy to read format.

### 5/5 — Toooooot

*2022-12-20, version 4.7.0*

Its a good app. Very user friendly. Recommend. ^_^

### 3/5 — Tooot has the most potential. Some changes needed.

*2022-12-20*

Thank you for making this app. I want to keep using this app but these are my hangups: 1. The text is dull and dark. On dark modes, I’m putting my screen brightness all the way up and then when I go to a different app, it’s so bright! 2. Please allow different colors for the like/love/favorite button. With boosts being green and likes being red, it’s going to have Christmas colors all year round. 3. Dark mode gray is ok but the app feels a bit masculine. One other color option (blue-violet-gray-ish - similar to Mastodon) here would also be nice. 4. Allow people’s profile pics to be expanded. We like to see who we are engaging with! 5. A softer, subtle notification sound like Mastodon’s would be easier on the ears. This app seems like it keeps up with user preferences (bravo) and I love being able to hide boosts sometimes. I hope I can come back and change my rating to a 5 someday. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Notifications blitzed in newest update

*2022-12-19*

I love this app but the newest update has made it impossible to keep track of notifications. Updating the notifications page actually REMOVES your most recent notifications from view, scrolling back in time four or five notifications; you have to close the app and open it again to see your newest notifications.

**Developer response:** Fixed in v4.7.1 :)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Update cannot display large images

*2023-03-04, version 4.9.0*

Please restore large images display in timeline

### 1/5 — Can’t see how to login!

*2023-01-21, version 4.8.3*

After downloading the app on a new device there is nowhere to login - what does this mean “https://Instance’s do”?!

Under that is more gibberish “Logging in process uses system browser that, your account information won’t be visible to tooot app”

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2023-01-12, version 4.8.0*

Crashes on first load which is totally pointless

### 1/5 — Doesn’t recognize email or password

*2022-11-11, version 4.5.1*

Error message unable to sign into Mastodon via this app.

### 2/5 — Can't write captions

*2023-01-31, version 4.8.5*

Can't add captions to images, which doesn't seem right

### 2/5 — Can’t follow links

*2023-01-23, version 4.8.3*

Great all but I can’t seem to click on a link that’s been shared and follow it to articles

### 2/5 — It’s so so

*2022-12-27*

It’s just OK. Pics disappear off the screen in landscape mode, which grates on my nerves. You can only search for hashtags. You can’t search for regular words or for users, so it’s hard to get to a point where it feels useful as a way to connect with peeps who are of interest or to stay informed. This makes it volumes less useful than twitter, although the general lack of nasty people is an improvement over twitter. I’m really not that into it, though. Until they allow search as search is traditionally used virtually everywhere else, it’s relatively useless unless you hashtag every word of every toot and everyone else does too… and this is never going to happen. Someone accurately described it as a bar, not a library. I’m looking for a combination of those and this definitely isn’t it.

### 2/5 — Excellent with one notable exception

*2022-12-02, version 4.6.4*

The font size, when composing a post, is almost too small to read. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back and give a five star rating once that issue was resolved.

### 3/5 — UI sometimes too simple, no hashtag options

*2024-06-09*

The UI is nice and simple, but sometimes a bit too simple (posts with CW or hidden portions can benefit from a bit more visual distinction/elements). There is no option to long press a hashtag from the timeline and follow/mute/etc, which was the dealbreaker for me since the Mastodon experience relies heavily on hashtags.

### 3/5 — Long term user, like the app very much BUT…

*2023-11-18*

The last three updates going back two months have not included the reason for the update. And it literally says here in the apple store: “this updated version includes: __________ “ nothing. Not even a more button as a tease. I’d like some transparency. That used to exist here. I don’t know what’s happening now, and if it’s just sloppiness… I find that concerning. I hope there’s not sloppiness in regard to security.

Just changing— I hope temporarily— my review to a 3 ⭐️ from 5 ⭐️ due to this issue around a lack of update transparency without explanation.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Simple yet advanced

*2024-05-06*

I’ve been bouncing among Mastodon clients but ultimately settled on this one. The interface is very intuitive and simple. But don’t be fooled, it has full access to ever advanced feature. Easy browsing of your home feed, local and federated feeds, even special trending section. Look and feel is very natural and twitter like. Says it’s designed with Chinese users in mind, but I’m not Chinese and I still love it. Well thought out, well designed. I keep exploring other free clients but this is the consistently the best. I’m sure paid options might be even better but trust me, among fully free offerings, this is the best.

### 5/5 — Makes for a really nice social media experience

*2023-11-11, version 4.10.2*

I tried this app after just using a browser for Mastodon on mobile for some time. It makes using Mastodon very like the experience of Twitter of old, before that turned into an increasingly unpleasant place for me. It is nice to have a social media app that really works well on a phone with the content from the Fediverse.

### 5/5 — awesome

*2023-08-24, version 4.10.1*

Tim Sweeney

### 5/5 — The only app that shows all of a post’s replies!

*2023-08-16*

Great at standard stuff but also has the unique feature that it loads the replies (and counts) of a post from the original server. This is a known issue with Mastodon itself but it’s great to see an app that works around it.

PS I’m not sure profile stats (like follower counts) are reloaded in the same way though.

### 5/5 — Clean and intuitive

*2023-06-01, version 4.9.6*

Simply works well

### 5/5 — Better than Mastodon

*2023-05-24, version 4.9.6*

.;))

### 5/5 — Can the UI be adapted to the full screen?

*2023-02-10, version 4.8.7*

Can the UI be adapted to the full screen?

### 5/5 — Good design, fast and reliable so far.

*2023-01-22, version 4.8.3*

Can’t ask for more.

### 5/5 — Bug in new version

*2023-01-12, version 4.8.0*

Version 4.8 introduces a big where text doesn’t wrap when composing a toot. Latest version iOS. iPhone 12 plus.

### 5/5 — I’ll take this down when it is received

*2023-01-11*

Newest version that just came out on 1/11 makes all but the first line of replies invisible as one is drafting, as least on iOS 16.3
