### 4/5 — Enjoy the Lessons

*2022-05-01*

I am enjoying the lessons and learning a lot about the basics. I will never be a top chef, but wanted to learn more and I have. The only problem that I have been having is that the app itself doesn’t work as it should. It doesn’t recognize the lessons that I have taken and when I take the quiz and go back into the app, the quiz goes back to zero. Other than that disappointment, I am enjoying the chefs and their lessons.

### 2/5 — Dont Buy it Unless

*2013-07-02*

Hooray there was an update on May 30th to fix problems. went in to check on the shrimp and garlic recipe and the video still will not load and play! So much for the update. I want to purchase the entire program but cant justify spending money on something that does not work 100%

### 2/5 — Overwhelming

*2013-04-05, version 1.0.6*

There's infinite information but I found it overwhelming. A lot like a real university.... I'd rather get a magazine.

### 3/5 — Needs to be fixed

*2013-02-20*

I agree with the previous review. I purchased the entire coarse and am disappointed as many of the videos do not run. The audio can be heard but no visual. Some of the recipes also have mistakes. As for the lessons that have working videos, I am learning a lot. Wish they would fix the bugs.

### 3/5 — There is a solution!

*2012-08-31*

Though I agree with everyone claiming they should be allowed to use their current membership to access the app, which seems to be nicely done, but lacking membeship access. There is an iPad app solution to access the flash issues for the iPad, it's the iSwifter app. For only $4.99 (in app purchase) you can view all of the content that your membership intitles you to from your iPad. This should hold you over till Top Chef changes the app properties to allow access to it's current members.

### 1/5 — Videos

*2012-04-10*

I'm sorry but I will never rate any app more than 1 star (if I could zero I would) if their entire content in the app is not available off-line (including videos).
For the life of me I will never understand why these apps have their video online necessary.

### 1/5 — Some good video, a lot of errors though. Can't Recommend it.

*2012-04-01*

Some of the video content is good but the app is so sloppily put together I can only give it 2 stars. Just to pick two random examples to give you a taste of the lack of care that went into this app:

The Chicken Mole recipe includes as an ingredient 3 quarts of duck fat. I assure you there should be no duck fat whatsoever in this receipe let alone 3 quarts. How the heck did that get in there. Who knows. The rack of lamb video just cuts off when the chef starts platting. The video is suppossed to be about 15 minutes. The last 2 minutes were cut off.

The "Cakes 1 - Classic Yellow Cake" video is not viewable and on and on.

Obviously no one actually watched the complete collection of videos and no one proofread the recipes.

It appears the creators slapped it together.

Minor points are the annoying sound effects. I don't have to hear the intro every time I open the app. It becomes grating. And, yes, anyone with a NLE (non-linear editor) can add "swoosh" sound to video images. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something.

### 2/5 — If you already know your basics...

*2012-01-01, version 1.0.2*

A bit disappointed in this app. Being a chef as well as a HUGE fan of the show I really thought I would like(really I wanted to love it!) but instead found myself regretting buying. First, the only lessons you get with initial purchase are very(VERY) basic lessons..like how to wash fruit. I took the time to browse the other categories and again felt let down. I had almost just selected BUY for the whole university too and was glad I did not. All the lessons where things I already knew how to do.. Again, all basics. I am sure if that is what you are looking for you might love.. But for me I found the app just disappointing. So in short really, if you already know your basics, I just would not recommend.

### 1/5 — NO SOUND

*2011-12-19, version 1000101*

I purchased the braised ribs and the pad Thai! None of which play any sound through the iPad speakers which is not normal. Might want to fix that. Before that do not bother buying it.

### 1/5 — Save your money

*2011-12-12, version 1000101*

Not worthwhile...must purchase recipes

### 1/5 — Fix the video control issue

*2024-10-27, version 2.3.1*

Video controls other than play don't even show up. So there is no pausing only play and stop. Wish they'd fix this. Today is Oct 27 2024.

### 1/5 — It Is Dead! Zero star!

*2017-09-21*

I bought the whole package from day 1 and yet this app never recognized it on iPad. I'm already in my final evaluation of my final test and had finished all 19 courses and yet after I downloaded the app, it all went back to zero. The worst app!

**Developer response:** Hi,

We are very sorry to hear you are having difficulty with the app. Hopefully the following will clarify any concerns you have.

This app is independent of the online course. It is offered by a separate company even though there is common content in the training. The app is more of a reference and skills development solution whereas the online course is meant as a true curriculum.

The evaluations in the app are not related to completing the certification of the TCU online curriculum.

However, if you still subscribe to the online solution you should be able to take the evaluation. It will be current.

Again, sorry for the confusion and issues you are having with the app. Please let us know if you have any other problems.

### 1/5 — Worked fine until......

*2015-11-16, version 2.2*

App worked fine until I paid the 19.99 to purchase all content. No, I cannot even open without it crashing immediately. Tried hard/soft reset of IPad 2 as well as multiple reinstallation of the app. No joy. Very disappointing and the developer website show no clear way to contact customer support to resolve issue. Stay away!

### 1/5 — Still CRAP!!!

*2013-11-12, version 2.0*

Got the update today & I've still got the same problems as before!!
I've got IOS 5 on my iPad & this App used to work great in Landscape mode. For the last YEAR it's been stuck in portrait mode & the bottom of the screen is blank, where the courses info USED to be!!
Fix it, IDIOTS!!!
YOU'VE HAD OVER A YEAR!!??
DON'T GET THIS APP, it doesn't work!

### 1/5 — Awful

*2013-07-19*

If I could give it zero star I would. Shame on Bravotv for selling a web based version but not allowing you to view it on an ipad unless you buy all the lessons again using this idiotic app. Ripoff! This has been reported to them for over a year and they still have not fixed it. Don't waste your money.

### 1/5 — Fix Bugs or stop taking people's money!!!

*2013-02-25, version 1.0.6*

Instead of reducing the price for the app, spend the time and money to fix problems with video's not playing.
These problems are being voiced by many and are being IGNORED.

### 1/5 — Meh

*2013-01-26, version 1.0.6*

So this is a shiny, pay-for version of what they offer for free on iTunesU. The first set of videos is free and then the rest are available through in- app purchases. Not worth the download, IMO.

### 1/5 — Good for beginners, but Videos don't work all the time

*2012-10-21*

I have become very frustrated with this product. Every time I go to use it, the videos are blacked out! I bought all the ingredients for a dish and then couldn't get the video to play. This has happened several times. I've emailed the help email several times, no response.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2012-09-05*

This app simply does not work. Save yourself the hassle of looking for a refund. Leave it alone

### 1/5 — Poorly put together

*2012-08-20*

Many quality control issues, wrong ingredients listed for recipes, cut off videos, nerd. For example, In the first lesson, they have a recipe for grilled chicken salad. The first ingredient listed is Mexican chocolate but it is not actually used in the recipe. It also tells you not put the anchovy filets in when blending the salad ingredients...but never mentioned them again. I was excited about this app and I was ready to invest money into it for more lessons, until I did one. Sad.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Bought All Lessons

*2016-03-09*

I acquired the All Lessons library; I dont typically write reviews but feel so strongly about this series that I came back to write a review. I found this library to be fantastic and I have been trolling the ITunes site to try and find similar content. This video provides very detailed cooking lessons and tips on techniques which are unique and fantastic. It is probably the best thing I have ever acquired on Itunes. Brilliant quality to the videos; wonderful recipies, specific cooking tips

### 5/5 — Good coverage of fundamentals

*2015-07-24, version 2.1*

Pleased with this app. Good video quality, detailed coverage of basic techniques. Purchased whole packaged for $20; worth the money.
Wondering if there is continuation (even for extra pay)

### 5/5 — Not just a show app!

*2014-08-20*

This is so much more than just a show app! It's an intense education on how to cook like your favorite Top Chefs. Not to mention that it's so much fun to be learning such awesome techniques from such well respected chefs...

SOOO WORTH IT!!!

### 5/5 — Actually Worth the Price and then some!

*2013-12-26*

Don't get scared off by the price to buy all the packs. It's not cheap, but, if you take one local cooking class it would be $65. This app contains over a dozen courses, and about 100 videos of recipes/techniques/training that will take you to the next level.

Whether you don't know how to toast bread, or are seasoned but looking to learn more about molecular cooking, this app really has all the basics and then some covered. I have never regretted the purchase and learned so much from the app.

Well worth the price.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2013-02-15, version 1.0.6*

The recipes are great and very tasty. I'm really happy with this cooking course. Definitely recommend.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2012-02-04*

After over 30+ years of marriage and dual careers that kept us busy we're discovering the kitchen. This app is worth every penny. We watch the lessons and turn out great meals for our foodie friends and family. I would like to have the ability to print out at least the ingredient lists for the recipes in the lessons. Other than that, I hope they add more lessons in the future.

### 5/5 — Fun and Informative

*2012-01-21*

I've used the app a ton and love all the content. The videos have just the eight detail and provide the perfect angle. The Chef instructors make things entertaining and surprisingly real. I really like that I can take notes in the app!

Big difference from other apps is that I've learned techniques and tricks; not just recipes.

Overall the experience is great. I've seen nothing better.

### 5/5 — Best cooking app yet

*2012-01-05*

I have been trying out other cooking apps and i really like the way this one is formatted. Every recipe has a video, a separate ingredients screen and the recipe. All this app needs is the ability to print as I sometimes want the paper copy in the kitchen instead of the iPad.

### 5/5 — Great app!!!

*2011-12-31*

This app is awesome!
I just wish it would work on an iPhone as well,

### 5/5 — Great app, awesome chefs and very entertaining way to learn to cook

*2011-12-22*

Love this app. I have always been a fan of the Top Chef show, so I will admit that makes this more entertaining for me than any other cooking app. Above all, I love that it's easy to follow regardless of your experience in the kitchen. Also, I'm not sure why some people have mentioned it being pricey, I don't know where anyone will get an equal experience anywhere else. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than going to a culinary school or a bunch of cooking classes.

Cheers!
