### 3/5 — App crashes consistently

*2026-04-11*

Show Failing test and white screen at any time without warning while reading the mag or looking at the news section. Happens several times per read that I just give up and move on to something more stable in life! Thought it would be better on the iPhone (17) but no, exactly the same as on the iPad. Only workaround is to memorise where you are then close the app and restart. Works for a few mins then bombs out again REALLY annoying.

### 2/5 — Not quite wow…

*2024-08-21*

Still not thrilled with the app (e.g. bookmarking articles is beyond you?) but it had gone YEARS with massive instability, regularly crashing and other obnoxious behaviours… and they have improved it however it still crashes more than zero, still boots me from the article to the app, and other undesirable results…

### 3/5 — Latest update is crashing on my pad before I can read anything!

*2024-07-22, version 3.5*

“Support for larger screens” - larger screens can do one. App is unusable since a couple weeks ago. Shows splash screen then crashes. Have rebooted iPad as well as reinstalling app. Nothing works.

### 1/5 — New version won’t load

*2021-06-19, version 2.5.1*

I can no longer use the app since the latest version was installed. It will no longer load. Apparently only way to report an issue is by opening the app and clicking report an issue! Any guidance gladly welcomed

### 4/5 — PDF at last

*2021-02-07, version 2.4.3*

After almost two years of the new format for the iPad, they have at least offered the older easier to read PDF format, just in time for me to renew my subscription

### 4/5 — App update not compatible with my iPad

*2020-10-04, version 2.4.3*

I have just discovered after wondering why the October edition of the magazine wasn’t available the the latest Top Gear App update isnt compatible with my iPad OS and I have the latest software update on it.

### 1/5 — Non existent support

*2020-06-05, version 2.3*

I paid for a subscription up front and after 2 months I was unable to log in. Resetting password doesn’t work and I’m still waiting for a reply from top gear to a mail I sent weeks ago for help.

Waste of money.

### 1/5 — Can not find your details

*2020-06-03*

This app membership was offered after my print sub failed during Covid. Useless because it won’t recognise my login details.

### 1/5 — Horrendous

*2020-04-21, version 2.3*

Doesn’t let me log in. Doesn’t remember place in magazine. Doesn’t remember my password. Chocolate teapot

Subscription cancelled

### 1/5 — Poor

*2020-04-17, version 2.3*

Subscription worth it, just such a poor app you can’t make the most of it. Doesn’t recognise my subscription, so have to logout then login to even read an edition every time open the app or switch to another month. Such a letdown, get a print subscription instead

### 1/5 — New Version not Great

*2019-12-17, version 2.2.58*

So the app asked for a new review so here it is.

Downloading an issue doesn’t work properly, and it still won’t remember your place in the magazine.

If you want a higher mark than one star developers, how about fixing fairly glaring errors that were never prevalent until you decided it needed a new look.

### 4/5 — New design

*2019-11-25, version 2.2.55*

Content is great but the new design isn’t the best

### 1/5 — Poor Quality App

*2019-11-23, version 2.2.55*

App is confusing and not at all user friendly. The subscription policy is unreliable and I know that I will not re-subscribe, although it has cut me off from my subscription two months early thus preventing me from viewing the last paid for editions.

The content of the magazine itself is ok, although the writing is at times so pretentious to be unreal.

### 1/5 — App RUINED by last update

*2019-10-09, version 2.2.54*

Latest update ruined what was a perfectly good app. Can’t make it go to landscape mode (most convenient way to read in my opinion) and turning pages got slow and irresponsive. Will not renew my subscription

### 2/5 — Latest software is frustrating

*2019-09-29, version 2.2.54*

The old downloadable magazine was a solid performer and took minimal space on a modern smartphone. The latest is slow, reliant on connectivity even in download form with frequent request timeouts interrupting.
The “specials” content is great but the reading format seems to be incompatible with a smartphone and is forever scaling and hard to read.
Shame as general content is very good.

### 2/5 — Sometimes less is just less.

*2019-09-28, version 2.2.54*

There has been a gradual decline in the functionality of this app and the new update has sunk even lower. At one time it was possible to resize the pages on the screen, click on links, images and additional content. Now, sadly, the resizing is no more and links virtually none existent. I’m sure the photographers put a lot of thought into taking the shots that fill the magazine, only to find that many are too small to really appreciate when they appear in the magazine’s app.

Save for doing a bit for the environment by saving on paper and transportation costs there’s now little to gain from going digital.

### 1/5 — Well that’s the end of that then

*2019-09-24, version 2.2.54*

I have been a subscriber of Top Gear Magazine for many years, but, the latest version of the app has caused me to cancel my subscription.
The previous version worked excellently, on my iPad, in landscape mode, when sat on my desk. The latest version doesn’t even support that.
The navigation is poor and I find I am spending more of my time fighting my way around. It’s a shame that, although the content is as always fantastic, the new delivery mechanism should fail in such a catastrophic way.
If you ever bring back the old version, let me know and I will resume my subscription.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Possibly the worst app in existence

*2026-03-12, version 3.7*

All I want to do is read the magazine.
It always reopens to the front page instead of where I was.

Even when I click ‘download’ I still get buffering where the article won’t finish loading and I have to close the app and start again.

Sometimes I’ll start reading and then that particular article will go blank and guess what? The app needs restarting.

Sometimes the screen will go grey and say something in the top left corner about a test. Guess what? Restart the app…

### 1/5 — Ugh

*2025-02-10, version 3.5.6*

This thing keeps crashing every handful of times I click back to it, sometimes just from typing a quick text. Seriously. It’s been doing this for YEARS. I guess the 16GB RAM my iPad has are insufficient to keep such a monster in memory… Fix your s*!

### 1/5 — Not working on IPAD

*2024-07-30, version 3.5*

Subscription is a waste of money since the app no longer works on the IPAD. I cancelled my subscription.

### 1/5 — App Stopped. Working

*2024-07-10, version 3.5*

The App has suddenly stopped working on my iPad, it just shows the splash screen and then crashes. Not good enough as I am paying for content that I only read via the app and there is no support mechanism if you can’t load the app.

### 1/5 — App Doesn’t Work

*2024-03-02, version 3.0*

I have to log in every time I want to read Top Gear and it doesn’t remember where I left off previously. I have tried to get resolved but no one seems to know how to resolve. Goi g to ask for a refund and buy a hard copy of the magazine instead. It’s useless

### 1/5 — Review

*2023-03-13, version 2.6.1*

You are always asking for one and it is a pain.

### 1/5 — No content

*2022-07-14, version 2.5.8*

I have been charged for my subscription but the app does not give me any content. Just asks me to subscribe (again). So, have paid and received nothing.

### 1/5 — Constantly Fails

*2021-10-12, version 2.5.3*

I constantly have trouble trying to read the magazines. It keeps telling me I have no subscription. I have to log out then re-login. Sometimes it won’t let me read some issues then another day it allows me. The telephone help line are beyond useless. GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK

### 1/5 — Constantly crashes.

*2021-08-12, version 2.5.2*

Version 2.5.1 constantly crashes at the splash screen when I try to launch it on my older iPad running iOS 12.5.4. It was running just fine before the latest iOS update.
It works fine on my newer iPhone but why am I stuck downloading PDF copies, that are formatted for print, for offline viewing? It used to download the full-featured digital copy formatted for my device. If I wanted something formatted for print I would have subscribed to the print magazine. At least I wouldn’t have to squint to look at it! If the offline content doesn’t revert back to the way it used to be when my subscription comes up for renewal, you are losing a customer.

### 1/5 — Does not work with my iPad

*2021-06-30, version 2.5.1*

Down loaded iOS 12.5.4 for my iPad Air today & the Ap will no longer Open.
Apple have concluded my iPad is working correctly after returning to Factory Settings.
I renew my Annual Subscription next week & need help
Terry

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Latest Version Doesn’t Load

*2021-07-22, version 2.5.1*

After updating my iPad software this app no longer opens.

### 5/5 — App tells me to update, but nothing is available.

*2020-09-27*

The app has stopped updating content and tells me it needs updating before it can update content, however no newer version is available in the App store, so my subscription is effectively useless. Support was emailed two weeks ago and appears to have died...

### 5/5 — Great app

*2020-04-20, version 2.3*

Brilliant

### 5/5 — What happened to the landscape?

*2019-09-09, version 2.2.54*

Am I being dim - or does the new app only work in portrait mode - so I can’t read it in landscape on the ipad?

### 5/5 — Unstable

*2019-06-28, version 2.2.52*

At this early stage I’m disappointed. Top Gear magazine wouldn’t load properly, and after several deletions of the magazine and the App itself, I still don’t have full functionality of the magazine. Have emailed the App help line and it bounced back saying the inbox was full... hence my rating. I look forward to someone contacting me to fix things... then I can change the rating!

### 5/5 — A Great Read For All Occasions!

*2019-02-23, version 2.2.52*

Plenty of 'free' reads and if you want, you can buy a magazine on the app digitally for only '£3.99'! Great deal!

### 5/5 — Still can’t view without paying more

*2018-03-09, version 2.2.52*

Not good I paid the yearly fee and 1 day later I still can’t view the magazine. I can’t sign in as I have no details of how to do this! There are no options to register for a password

### 5/5 — very good

*2016-03-25, version 2.2.50*

of course! my expedition before

### 5/5 — Best digital mag, surely?

*2016-03-05, version 2.2.50*

Love the print mag, but the digital one is probably even better. Keep up the great work team TG!

### 5/5 — Best E-Mag app I've had

*2016-02-05, version 2.2.50*

Works great, everything is portrayed nicely, very appealing to the eyes and easy to use
