## What is Topics?

Topics is a reading app where articles are sorted by subject instead of by feed. You can pick a topic you actually care about, read a good-quality articles, essays, blog posts, and papers about it without distractions, and even add articles from anywhere else on the internet.

There are about a hundred and twenty topics, from Can We Talk to Animals? to Horror Stories or the Roman Empire.r

• Add external articles and read them without ads, popups or clutter
• Build your own reading collections
• Practice vocabulary: highlight a word, see what it means, save it for later
• Follow the writers you trust and read only them
• Track reading time and see your progress
• Share what you are reading in the feed, or keep it to yourself
• Open another reader's profile and follow them

This app exists because choosing what to read has become tiring, and because most of what gets published is optimizing for something other than being worth your time.

### 1.4.8 — 2026-08-25

1,143 new readings and ten new Topics.

Fiction arrives. Horror, love stories, detectives, science fiction, twist endings and comic writing: six Topics of stories instead of arguments.

The reading lists got stricter. Encyclopedia entries are now capped at one in ten, so most of what you read is signed by someone with a name. Sixty-four Topics were rebuilt from scratch, dead links are gone, and paywalls are marked before you tap them.

Authors have faces. Every writer has a portrait and a page, and you can follow the ones you trust and read only them.

Your shelf is one place. Saved, started and finished reading now live in a single library, with the origin on each row, instead of scattered across screens.

Reader profiles open. Tap someone in the feed to see what they have been reading, and follow them. The sample accounts we wrote ourselves now say so plainly.

Collections get covers. A new collection is dressed in its own initial, and you can swap that for any artwork in the app.

Plus: choose three Topics when you first open the app, pictures on the screens that used to be blank, and a long list of smaller fixes.
