## What is Total Solar Eclipse 2027?

On 2 August 2027 the Moon's shadow sweeps from southern Spain across North Africa to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Horn of Africa — up to ~6 minutes of totality, the longest on easily accessible land until 2114.

Total Solar Eclipse 2027 gives you NASA-grade predictions for any spot on the path:

• Live countdown to first contact, totality and last contact at your exact location
• Interactive path map — the band of totality across ten countries, with curated viewing sites from Cadiz to Luxor to Mecca
• Contact times computed from NASA/GSFC Besselian elements, shown in each place's own local timezone
• Clear TOTALITY vs PARTIAL distinction — know before you travel whether your spot sees the corona
• Compass and sky visualiser pointing you at the Sun at every phase
• Eye-safety guide: naked-eye viewing is safe only during totality; at all other times use ISO 12312-2 certified solar filters

PRO (one-time unlock):
• Multi-City Trip Planner — compare totality length, local timing and Sun height across the whole path, side by side
• Sky Conditions & Cloud Forecast — historical clear-sky odds and live forecasts for your spot
• Eclipse-Day Alerts — glasses ON/OFF tones and voice guide, fully offline
• Photography Assistant, Perseid planner, personalised Eclipse Record

Works fully offline on eclipse day. Madrid, Casablanca, Cairo and the Gulf see a deep partial eclipse — the app shows exactly how deep, and where to go for totality.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.0.1 — 2026-08-20

Retargeted to the 2 August 2027 total solar eclipse — ten countries, up to ~6 minutes of totality.
• NEW Multi-City Trip Planner (Pro): compare cities along the path side by side
• New languages: French and Arabic (full right-to-left support)
• Times shown in each location's own timezone (UTC+1 to UTC+3)
• Curated sites from Cádiz to the Horn of Africa; NASA 2027 elements validated to the second

### 2.5.0 — 2026-08-10

MORE ACCURATE WILDFIRE SAFETY: fire detections are now cross-checked against a second NASA satellite family (MODIS as well as VIIRS) and filtered for steady industrial heat, so viewing sites are no longer wrongly flagged unsafe. Genuine fire fronts still are.

NEW ECLIPSE VISIBILITY FORECAST: your chance of actually seeing totality, scored from 122 real weather-model runs (ICON, GFS and ECMWF ensembles) with an honest confidence figure - if the models disagree, we say so. And Refresh now genuinely reloads instead of re-serving cached data.

VALENCIA 12 AUGUST MEASURES: the CV-500 El Saler road closes from 18:00 and 17 natural parks including l'Albufera close for the day - both now on the map with the official reference.

The app updates automatically for the next total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027 (southern Spain to Egypt, up to 6m 23s).

Emergencies in Spain: 112.

### 2.4.0 — 2026-08-05

NEW: Official 12 Aug road closures on the live map. Announced closures and restrictions (Balearic ECLIPBAL device incl. the Ma-10 Serra de Tramuntana, Formentor and beach roads; Ibiza and Formentera access controls; Oviedo's Naranco and Parque del Oeste; regional lorry bans) draw as red lines - tap one for hours, exceptions and the official reference.

Also new: optimal La Mola viewing spot on Formentera (the lighthouse is blocked - our derived summit spot is not), Gijon's Cerro de Santa Catalina marked closed (fireworks setup - use La Providencia), site dots now show their safety colour instantly when tapped, and a visible 'Refreshing data' banner whenever live NASA fire and Copernicus smoke data update.

Emergencies in Spain: 112.

### 2.3.1 — 2026-08-01

NEW: 44 more viewing sites — the Spanish path now has 88 terrain-verified locations. Every new site is prominent high ground chosen by elevation, then ray-traced against the low eclipse Sun (2-12 deg, WNW) for a clear horizon, then screened for smoke and nearby fires.

All sites carry live safety status: green good, orange smoke/haze affected, red cross unsafe — refreshed at least every 30 minutes from NASA and Copernicus data.

Emergencies: 112.

### 2.3.0 — 2026-07-30

NEW: Glasses ON/OFF guide in Safety — a visual timeline of exactly when eclipse glasses go on and off at your location, following AAS & NASA guidance. Free for everyone.

Eclipse-Day Alerts (Pro) now speak: distinct tones per transition, a live voice guide with a spoken 5-second countdown before the Sun returns, and a test mode to learn the tones.

Path map: colour legend — green good, orange smoke-affected, red unsafe. The app now offers updates on launch.

Emergencies: 112.
